Fixes #4476.

This is a clean replacement for PR #4480. The original branch had drifted 6,687 commits behind current main and carried unrelated CI-watchdog history; this branch starts at current main and contains only the two icon regression/fix commits.

Root cause

The remaining Vault/workspace/sidebar SF Symbol call sites still entered SwiftUI as lazy template providers. On macOS 15, especially Intel, the first materialization can occur before the effective appearance is resolved, producing a blank icon layer while text remains. Sidebar re-show and Light/Dark toggles accidentally retriggered that lifecycle.

Fix

  • Route Vault section controls, agent fallbacks, folder sections, previews, and popovers through the existing AppKit-materialized CmuxSystemSymbolImage path.
  • Route Task Manager agent/system icons through the same concrete bitmap path.
  • Preserve the existing appearance-aware CmuxAppKitSupportUI renderer and package lifecycle ownership from current main.
  • Add runtime renderer/lifecycle regression coverage, including visible non-template pixels and last-good-image preservation.
  • Keep all changes localized; no submodule changes.

Verification

  • Swift frontend parse of all touched Swift files.
  • git diff --check.
  • scripts/check-pbxproj.sh.
  • scripts/lint-pbxproj-test-wiring.sh.
  • No local Xcode build or tests run by request; cloud build/test remains the handoff gate.

The old PR #4480 should be superseded by this PR; no merge is requested here.

Full details: Description check

Explanation

The description clearly documents the root cause, fix, scope, and verification. It omits the template headings, demo video, review-trigger block, and checklist, but the main required technical content is present.

Full details: Cmux Swift Actor Isolation

Explanation

No changed production declaration introduces the listed actor-isolation mistakes. The new SessionIndexSectionIconImage, SessionIndexAgentIconImage, and SessionIndexResolvedSystemSymbolImage types are SwiftUI View types, which the rule allows on the main actor. CmuxResolvedIconRequest, CmuxResolvedIconSource, CmuxResolvedIconRenderer, and CmuxResolvedIconImageView remain explicitly @MainActor; the changes add icon fallback data and AppKit rendering only. The diff adds no service protocol, Sendable reference type, or background access to a UI-bound store. Existing detached transcript work is unchanged and remains behind the existing @MainActor boundary.

Full details: Cmux Swift Blocking Runtime

Explanation

PASS. The PR diff adds no blocking or timing-based synchronization in production Swift. The only Task.sleep(for: .milliseconds(200)) found is pre-existing in SessionIndexView.swift; the base-to-HEAD diff does not add or modify it. The new renderer uses a finite fallback for loop and adds no semaphore, blocking wait, delayed dispatch, polling loop, main-queue sync, or manual lock. Added test code is deterministic and contains no sleep.

Full details: Cmux Browser Automation Off-Main

Explanation

PASS: The pull request diff against origin/main contains only icon-rendering, session/task view, project, and icon test files. It does not modify Sources/TerminalController.swift, ControlCommandExecutionPolicy.swift, the worker browser router, or policy tests. Therefore it introduces no browser.* socket automation routing or off-main WebKit/AppKit behavior covered by this check.

Full details: Cmux Expensive Synchronous Load

Explanation

PASS. The diff from the merge-base adds icon rendering, fallback selection, bitmap visibility checks, and NSWorkspace.shared.icon(for:). It does not add or move RestorableAgentSessionIndex.load(), SharedLiveAgentIndex, agent-store reads, transcript/trajectory parsing, broad scans, or per-record syscalls. The existing SessionTranscriptLoader remains on Task.detached, and the existing Vault reload and snapshot paths are not changed.

Full details: Cmux Cache Substitution Correctness

Explanation

PASS: The diff changes AppKit/SwiftUI icon rendering only. It adds fallback icon sources, transient rendered-image reuse keys, and blank-raster rejection. It does not replace a fresh authoritative read in a persistence, history, undo, or snapshot path. The existing RenderableSystemSymbol caches were already present at the merge base, and the changed SessionIndexView snapshot references remain UI snapshot loading and rendering, not persisted-state substitution.

Full details: Cmux No Hacky Sleeps

Explanation

PASS. The PR diff contains only Swift source/tests and cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj; it contains no TypeScript, JavaScript, shell, or build/runtime script changes. Added lines contain no fixed sleeps, timers, polling, backoff, or delay synchronization. Swift timing is explicitly outside this rule's scope.

Full details: Cmux Algorithmic Complexity

Explanation

PASS — the production diff adds no scalable collection scan or repeated search/sort/filter path. The new renderer loop processes at most two explicitly constructed sources (primary plus one fallback), and the new pixel loops inspect small icon rasters rather than user-owned records. The Vault and Task Manager changes replace icon views and add per-row rendering, but they do not add nested workspace/session lookups or batch rescans. Existing bounded cache eviction and fixed-size loops are unchanged. Tests and icon rendering use fixed small inputs.

Full details: Cmux Swift Concurrency

Explanation

PASS. The diff from origin/main adds no DispatchQueue.global().async, custom background queue, DispatchGroup, Combine state, new completion-handler API, or fire-and-forget Task pattern. The touched SessionIndexView.swift references to DispatchQueue.main.async and Task.detached are pre-existing; they remain limited to UI/legacy callback and synchronous transcript-loading boundaries. The new and modified icon-rendering code contains no legacy async pattern named by the check.

Full details: Cmux Swift `@Concurrent`

Explanation

PASS. The pull-request diff introduces no @concurrent, nonisolated, or new async declaration or call. The changed renderer and icon helpers are synchronous and run under existing @MainActor isolation. Existing async UI work in SessionIndexView is unchanged. No custom-check failure condition is introduced.

Full details: Cmux Swift Package Boundaries

Explanation

PASS. The diff keeps the reusable icon-rendering logic behind the existing CmuxAppKitSupportUI SwiftPM target. CmuxResolvedIconRequest, CmuxResolvedIconSource, CmuxResolvedIconRenderer, and their tests remain under Packages/macOS/CmuxAppKitSupportUI. The app-target additions are SwiftUI views and AppKit lifecycle/materialization glue: SessionIndexSectionIconImage composes app-specific SectionIcon and SessionAgent values, while RenderableSystemSymbol handles AppKit bitmap rendering. These match the rule's allowed UI/AppKit bridge and app-lifecycle composition cases. No provider, persistence, protocol, or cross-surface domain logic was moved into the app target.

Full details: Cmux Swiftpm Lockfiles

Explanation

PASS. The diff from origin/main changes no Package.swift, Package.resolved, .gitignore, or workflow file. The only Xcode project change is cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj source/file-reference wiring and ordering; it does not change SwiftPM package references. Therefore no package pin or Xcode package-reference change requires a lockfile diff. Standalone SwiftPM commands use each package root's own Package.resolved, while Xcode package references use the root Xcode lockfile; neither resolution set changed here.

Full details: Cmux Swift Logging

Explanation

PASS. The diff from main to HEAD adds no print, debugPrint, dump, NSLog, Logger, or ad hoc diagnostic file/stdout logging. The changed Swift code is limited to icon rendering, UI, and tests, with no secret or personal-data logging.

Full details: Cmux User-Facing Error Privacy

Explanation

The PR diff changes icon rendering and adds only safe control labels: “Reload Vault” and “Clear search.” It does not add or alter user-facing error text, alerts, command output, API bodies, or recovery diagnostics. Renderer failure names and test messages are internal or test-only, and the existing transcript/database error path is unchanged.

Full details: Cmux Full Internationalization

Explanation

PASS. The production diff adds no new user-facing copy or localization catalog changes. The two new accessibility labels use String(localized:defaultValue:) with the existing sessionIndex.reload.tooltip and historyPane.search.clear keys. Both keys already exist in Resources/Localizable.xcstrings on the base revision, and the PR does not change their locale entries. The remaining added strings are icon identifiers, API/config-like values, comments, or test diagnostics covered by the rule's allowed cases. No web, metadata, or locale files changed.

Full details: Cmux Swiftui State Layout

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds no new ObservableObject, @Published, @StateObject, @EnvironmentObject, GeometryReader, or render-time state writes. SessionIndexIconImage contains value inputs and one font environment read, then delegates rendering to the existing AppKit bridge. The changed lazy-list rows still receive snapshots and closures; they do not hold store references. Existing state and geometry callbacks were only touched incidentally by icon substitutions.

Full details: Cmux Architecture Rethink

Explanation

PASS. The PR adds no timing or blocking repair path, new mutable static state, observer, lock, polling, or side channel. The existing CmuxResolvedIconImageView remains the lifecycle owner, while CmuxResolvedIconRequest carries immutable fallback values. SessionIndexSectionIconImage routes the affected Vault surfaces through one shared AppKit-backed path. Existing caches and lifecycle state predate the PR. The diff also verifies singular project wiring and adds fallback, workspace, and mutable-image regression tests.

Full details: Cmux Swift Auxiliary Window Close Shortcuts

Explanation

PASS. The aggregate diff from origin/main contains only icon-rendering changes, SwiftUI views, AppKit image rendering, and tests. It adds or changes no user-visible NSWindow, NSPanel, NSWindowController, Window, or WindowGroup, and it adds no cmux.* window identifier. The NSViewRepresentable viewDidMoveToWindow references are existing view lifecycle code, not standalone windows. The auxiliary-window rule is therefore inapplicable; no close-shortcut registration is required. The deterministic script exists at scripts/lint_auxiliary_window_close_shortcuts.py, but this diff introduces no literal window assignment for it to check.

Full details: Cmux Source Artifacts

Explanation

PASS. The diff contains only Swift product sources, Swift regression tests, and the Xcode project file. The new Sources/SessionIndexIconImage.swift is an intentional product source, and the test changes add renderer coverage. No logs, screenshots, recordings, caches, temporary directories, build output, dependency checkouts, or broad artifact directories appear in the changed paths.

Full details: Cmux No Test Or Debug Seam In Production Source

Explanation

PASS. The production diff adds icon rendering behavior, fallback sources, and a private pixel helper. It adds no #if DEBUG, debug…, ForTesting, ForTests, TestHook, TestSeam, or test-only accessor. The existing RenderableSystemSymbol.resetRenderabilityCacheForTesting() DEBUG seam is unchanged from main. The only visibility change is nsFontWeight from private to fileprivate, and the new caller is the production CmuxSystemSymbolImage implementation in the same file. Added regression scaffolding is under Tests/ and cmuxTests/, which the check excludes.

Full details: Cmux No Ambient Global State

Explanation

PASS. The production diff adds no top-level API function, mutable global variable, stub state holder, or singleton. The new containsVisiblePixels helper in Sources/RenderableSystemSymbol.swift:8 is private and pure. SessionIndexIconImage.swift adds normal constructable SwiftUI view types with instance properties and body; their static == methods only provide Equatable conformance. The existing RenderableSystemSymbol static namespace and its caches predate this diff; the change only makes one pure helper fileprivate for same-file use. NSWorkspace.shared is an existing platform service reference, not a new singleton.

Greptile Summary

This PR routes Vault/sidebar and Task Manager SF Symbols through the shared AppKit-materialized renderer and adds regression coverage for visible pixels and last-good-image preservation.

  • Replaces lazy SwiftUI system-symbol providers in Vault, section, preview, popover, and Task Manager UI.
  • Adds renderer lifecycle tests and wires them into the Xcode test target.
  • Preserves the existing shared icon renderer while inadvertently dropping global font magnification at the converted call sites.

Confidence Score: 4/5

The global font-magnification regression should be fixed before merging so the converted Vault and Task Manager icons continue honoring the user’s accessibility setting.

The renderer replacement addresses blank symbols, but every converted call site selects the initializer that fixes raster size even though the removed font modifier scaled those icons from the configured global magnification percentage.

Important Files Changed

Filename Overview
Sources/SessionIndexView.swift Converts Vault and sidebar symbols to the concrete renderer, but the selected initializer no longer honors global font magnification.
Sources/TaskManagerView.swift Converts sort and row symbols to the shared renderer with the same non-magnifying initializer.
cmuxTests/ResolvedIconRenderingTests.swift Adds focused pixel-materialization and last-good-image preservation regression tests.
cmux.xcodeproj/project.pbxproj Wires the new rendering tests into the test target; the unrelated CloudMachinesFeature entry is ordering-only.

P1 Global icon magnification is dropped

When global font magnification differs from 100%, these replacements use the non-magnifying CmuxSystemSymbolImage initializer while the removed .cmuxFont path honored that setting, causing Vault and Task Manager icons to remain at their base sizes while adjacent text and controls scale.

Replacement note: this PR supersedes #4480 after rebasing the two icon fix commits onto current origin/main. The existing CmuxAppKitSupportUI renderer remains the single owner; this diff only routes the remaining Vault/Task icon call sites and preserves global magnification. No build or merge was performed in this handoff.

…icons

The sidebar footer icons (Sign In, Help, phone) and the signed-in account
avatar came back after #12126 but disappeared again after a while on Intel
Macs running macOS 15. #12126 still let SwiftUI own pixels: the symbols were
drawn as a SwiftUI `.foreground` fill masked by the hosted AppKit view, and
the avatar's hosted image view sat under a SwiftUI `clipShape`. Both paint at
first and go blank later on these machines. The Vault icons (#10764) never
did, because they take the other path: `CmuxResolvedIconImage` with the tint
baked into the bitmap by the shared renderer and a fallback source, with no
SwiftUI mask or clip anywhere near the hosted view.

This puts every `CmuxSystemSymbolImage` and the avatar on that same path.

- `CmuxSystemSymbolImage` takes an explicit `tint: Color`, bridged to a
dynamic `NSColor` and baked into the hosted bitmap (like
  `SessionIndexResolvedSystemSymbolImage`), with a same-symbol fallback
source. Equal colors bridge to equal `NSColor`s, so the hosted view's
render key stays stable. Every call site passes the color it used to
inherit from `.foregroundStyle` / `.foregroundColor`; the header, titlebar
and pill button styles now apply their hover/pressed dimming as view
opacity so the label color they set is a plain color the symbol can bake.
- `StackAccountAvatarImageLoader` clips the center-cropped picture to a
circle inside the bitmap, and `StackAccountAvatarView` draws it through
  `CmuxResolvedIconImage` with a tinted person-symbol fallback (mirroring
`SessionIndexAgentIconImage`) and no `clipShape` around the hosted view.

`.colorScheme` subtree overrides still reach the hosted view: SwiftUI sets
the matching `NSAppearance` on hosted platform views, so the dynamic tints
resolve correctly inside themed chrome.

…icons (Intel/macOS 15 follow-up) (#12145)

* test: sidebar symbols and avatar must render like the Vault icons

Regression coverage for the sidebar footer icons and the account avatar
disappearing again after a while on Intel Macs running macOS 15, even
after #12126 routed them through the AppKit-hosted renderer:

- CmuxHostedSystemSymbolImageTests: hosted symbol requests must carry an
explicit tint baked into the bitmap plus a same-symbol fallback, exactly
like SessionIndexResolvedSystemSymbolImage (the Vault icons), instead of
relying on a SwiftUI `.foreground` mask over the hosted view. Also
covers the SwiftUI Color -> dynamic NSColor tint bridge.
- StackAccountAvatarImageLoaderTests: the decoded picture must already be
clipped to a circle inside the bitmap, so the hosted image view needs no
  SwiftUI `clipShape`.
- StackAccountAvatarViewTests: the avatar request must use the picture as
the primary source with a tinted person-symbol fallback, mirroring
  SessionIndexAgentIconImage.

These reference API that does not exist yet, so CI is red on this commit.

* Render sidebar symbols and the account avatar exactly like the Vault icons
