mobilecli screenshot now supports --max-size, --scale, --format and --quality, so image scaling/conversion happens natively on-device instead of shelling out to sips or ImageMagick.

Changes

  • Robot.getScreenshot accepts optional ScreenshotOptions (format, quality, scale, maxSize); MobileDevice passes them through to mobilecli. Legacy robots ignore the options and return a full-size png (detected by magic bytes).
  • mobile_take_screenshot: new optional maxSize (default 1024) and scale params. Removed the device.info scale-based downscaling.
  • mobile_save_screenshot: new optional maxSize and scale params (no default, full size). Saves an actual jpeg when the filename ends with .jpg/.jpeg.
  • Deleted src/image-utils.ts — no more sips/ImageMagick dependency.

Test plan

  • build + lint pass
  • unit tests pass (device-integration failures pre-exist on main)
  • verified on iPhone 17 Pro simulator: take_screenshot defaults to 1024 jpeg; save_screenshot full-size jpeg; save_screenshot with maxSize=128 → 59x128 jpeg

- add maxSize/scale/format/quality options to Robot.getScreenshot,
passed through to mobilecli screenshot (--max-size, --scale, --format, --quality)
- mobile_take_screenshot: new maxSize (default 1024) and scale params,
  remove device.info scale-based downscaling
- mobile_save_screenshot: new maxSize and scale params, saves real jpeg
  when filename is .jpg/.jpeg
- delete image-utils.ts (sips/imagemagick no longer needed)

Walkthrough

The public screenshot API now accepts format, quality, scale, and maximum-size options. Mobile devices forward these options, including explicit zero values. Server handlers validate the options, apply maximum-size precedence and defaults, and validate JPEG or PNG responses. Screenshot size telemetry fields were removed.

Merge Risk: ⚪ Minimal · up to 612c7

Screenshot capture now forwards format, quality, scale, and maximum-size options to native mobile handling, including explicit zero values. The stated build, lint, unit, and screenshot behavior checks indicate no outstanding merge-readiness risk.

* Robots that support it may honor options (format, quality, scale);
* others ignore them and return a full-size PNG.

Update the getScreenshot return contract.

Line 74 omits maxSize. The preceding documentation still promises a full-size PNG. JPEG, scaling, and maximum-size options invalidate that promise.

mobile_take_screenshot downscales by default since mobile-next#418 but returned only
the image. A model reads a position off the smaller image and taps it in
full-size screen coordinates, so every screenshot-derived tap lands short.

The tool result now carries a text block ahead of the image that states the
screenshot size, the screen size, and the multiplier to apply before tapping.
When both agree it says so. When either size is unknown the text is omitted
rather than risk a wrong instruction.

Screenshot dimensions are read from the image bytes: png through the
existing PNG class, jpeg through a small SOF-marker parser (baseline and
progressive). Screen dimensions come from getScreenSize, which is already the
space taps use, so iOS points vs pixels needs no special casing.

Closes #29, closes mobile-next#163.
