A head always in the Cloud 🧠☁️

I started out in a neuroscience research lab at UBC. I was supposed to be helping run experiments, but I kept ending up responsible for the servers. Eventually, that became the job. I left with a few published papers and an appreciation for both the brains we studied and the machines we used to study them. The machines were easier to reboot when something went wrong, and they had better documentation.

I spent more than a decade as a sysadmin at UBC, where I got deep into PowerShell and started automating the repetitive parts of the job. Since then, I've worked on package management and artifact security at Chocolatey and Cloudsmith, identity at Okta, and now cloud security at Wiz.

These jobs sound different on paper, but they all come down to the same thing: understanding how systems fail, helping people make them safer, and explaining the complicated bits without turning them into jargon.

What I'm into

  • 🔐 Making cloud security more approachable, from code to cloud
  • ⚙️ Automating repetitive work with PowerShell, Bash, Terraform, and GitHub Actions
  • 🛡️ Exploring software supply chains, artifact integrity, identity, and AppSec
  • 🎨 Mixing technology with design, storytelling, and a little humour
  • 🧪 Building games, tools, and interactive demos that make learning less boring

Things I've built

  • 4dl Apps — small, privacy-friendly web apps made for the joy of making useful things
  • QRCheck — a privacy-first QR code scanner that checks links for phishing and suspicious redirects
  • ThreatDex — threat-actor intelligence presented as interactive trading cards
  • Cyberdle — a Wordle-style game for cybersecurity acronyms
  • CNAPPuccino — a hands-on cloud security lab, brewed for the cloud

There are plenty more experiments, utilities, and rabbit holes in my repositories and on adilio.ca.

Community

I co-founded the Pacific Northwest PowerShell User Group, co-hosted BridgeConf, and speak at conferences about PowerShell, automation, cloud, and security. I care about making technical communities welcoming and making security knowledge easier to access.

Away from the keyboard, you'll usually find me snowboarding, collecting far too many stickers, fussing over travel tech, or turning my neuroscience roots into security analogies nobody asked for.
