The first dispatch of image-channel.yml (run 39772282911) exited 1 in ~1 second with an empty log. Reproduced locally under bash -e: read -r code ctype < <(curl -w '%{http_code} %{content_type}' …) — curl's -w output has no trailing newline, so read assigns both fields and still returns 1 at EOF, and the step's -e exits the script before its first echo.

The probe now captures the -w string by command substitution and splits it, with a protected fallback. Replayed locally end to end: with an unprivileged token every stage before the PUT runs and all sixteen images report the expected 403 with before/after evidence (stable left at 'v20.1.0'), where the pre-fix block produced exit 1 with an empty log. On the runner, the workflow's packages: write token turns those PUTs into 201s.

After merge this will be dispatched with version=v19.0.0 to complete the channel restore from #1478.

…line of output

curl -w prints no trailing newline, so read -r code ctype assigned both
fields and still returned 1 at EOF — and under the step's bash -e that
exited the whole script with exit 1 and zero output, which is exactly
how the first dispatch of this workflow failed. The probe now captures
curl's -w string by command substitution and splits it, with a protected
fallback, so a failure anywhere in the loop reports per image instead of
dying before the first report.

Replayed locally end to end under bash -e: with an unprivileged token
every stage before the PUT now runs and all sixteen images report the
expected 403 with 'stable left at' evidence, where the pre-fix block
produced exit 1 with an empty log.
