Florida Paycheck Calculator — Take-Home Pay After Federal Tax

Florida charges no state income tax, so a $60,000 salary keeps $50,390.00 — $2,512.53 more than the same salary in California.

Reference notes for the 2026 federal tax year and 2025 state schedules, computed from published rates rather than copied from another site.

How it works

Florida charges no state income tax on wages.

Florida replaces income tax revenue with a 6% state sales tax, tourism levies and property tax. The trade-off most residents notice is not tax at all but insurance: Florida has some of the highest home insurance premiums in the country, which can offset the income tax saving.

Payroll in Florida is simple: the state has nothing to withhold, and no county or city levies an income tax of its own, so where you work inside the state makes no difference to your paycheck. Sales tax is 6% at state level with counties adding a discretionary surtax on top, and the state's own revenue leans heavily on tourism, which is why the burden shifts to residents in a downturn. Businesses pay a 5.5% corporate income tax, and self-employed Floridians still owe the full federal self-employment tax of 15.3% with no state offset. The trade-off most residents actually feel is not a tax at all: home insurance premiums are among the highest in the country and have risen far faster than wages, so a good part of the income tax saving is absorbed by the insurance bill.

There are no employee payroll premiums either, so federal tax and FICA are the whole deduction.

Transcribed, not yet reproduced. The figures come from Florida's own department document (last checked September 3, 2026), but no printed worked example has been reproduced against them yet. 26 of 51 jurisdictions have; this one is on the list.

What this does not cover

No income tax does not mean no tax. Florida raises revenue through sales, property or business taxes instead, and the trade is rarely as one-sided as the headline suggests. This figure covers payroll deductions only.

What filing status is worth in Florida

Same $60,000 salary, three statuses, 2025 Florida rules on top of 2026 federal:

Status State tax Total tax Take-home
Single $0.00 $9,610.00 $50,390.00
Head of household $0.00 $8,538.00 $51,462.00
Married filing jointly $0.00 $7,430.00 $52,570.00

Head of household is worth $1,072.00 a year here over filing single, and joint filing $2,180.00. All of that difference is federal, since Florida takes nothing.

The figures are generated from the rate table, so they cannot drift from the calculator. Federal rates are 2026, from the IRS; state schedules are 2025, because the IRS publishes a year ahead of the states, and both years are named rather than blended. Florida's own figures were read from its department on September 3, 2026.

The whole rate table is open data: rates.json, no key and no rate limit, indexed at dev-lab-x/us-tax-rates-json. Everything ever found wrong is published with before-and-after figures on the corrections page.

Corrections welcome: open an issue with the figure and where the right one is published.
