LLM-powered tool to generate a Docker dev container for any project you can clone.
This is a standard Rust project, so:
- Ensure you have a Rust toolchain installed.
- Clone this repo using git
- Run "cargo build" to build the repo
- Run using "cargo run"
This tool uses genai to interact with a variety of LLM providers, and thus requires setting the LLM model, API key (and optionally, base URL).
Set the LLM_MODEL, LLM_API_KEY and (optionally) LLM_BASE_URL for this.
- Clone the repo you wish to work with using
autodevenv init --source=<git repo link> cdinto the wrapper repo created in step 1- Run
autodevenv analyzeto have the LLM analyze docs, lockfiles etc of a repo and generate a Dockerfile, and a container.sh to drive the container, set up mountpoints, environment variables and provide shortcuts to build, run or test the project
Note that the tool is not 100% perfect, but it provides enough of a starting point that further corrections (either manually or through an LLM agent) are easier than doing it all yourself.
The shell script is also very standardized:
./container.sh dockerbuilds the Docker image./container.sh buildbuilds the project inside the Docker image
