A comprehensive skill for integrating cmux terminal features into Claude Code agents.
cmux is a specialized terminal environment designed specifically for AI agents. It provides features like:
- Split Panes: Isolate subagent tasks in dedicated terminal surfaces.
- Browser Automation: Full API for agents to interact with web elements.
- Notifications: Smart alerting systems for agent workflows.
- Topology Awareness: Deep insight into windows, workspaces, and panes.
This repository provides the configuration files to teach Claude Code how to leverage cmux effectively.

- Dynamic Workspace Management - Claude can create and switch between workspaces.
- Intelligent Notification Matrix - Decides between
cmux notifyandosascriptbased on context. - Element-Ref Browser Control - Simplifies complex browser interactions for the agent.
- Surface Topology Navigation - Allows agents to navigate and manage their own terminal environment.
- Hook Integration - Automatic handling of idle/permission prompts through
cmuxhooks.
- cmux must be installed on your system.
- Claude Code CLI must be installed.
Clone this repository and run the install script:
git clone https://github.com/hashangit/cmux-skill.git
cd cmux-skill
chmod +x install.sh
./install.shIf you prefer to manually copy the files:
# Copy the skill
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills/using-cmux
cp -r .claude/skills/using-cmux/* ~/.claude/skills/using-cmux/
# Copy the command
mkdir -p ~/.claude/commands
cp .claude/commands/cmux.md ~/.claude/commands/Once installed, Claude Code will automatically detect the skill when it's running inside a cmux environment (detected via CMUX_* environment variables).
- Automatic Usage: Claude will use
cmuxfeatures to solve tasks that involve terminal management or browser automation. - Help Command: Type
/cmuxwithin Claude Code to get a quick reference of availablecmuxfeatures. - Manual Invocation: You can explicitly ask Claude to "use the using-cmux skill" if needed.
