[Mac App Feature] Option to keep Cool mode on with no time limit #1697
I work on my MacBook all day, sometimes for several days in a row, so I want to keep the fans in Cool mode the whole time. However, after a while Mole shows "Back to Auto · cooling ended" and hands the fans back to macOS automatic control.
I have already turned off "End fan boost after cooling" in Settings, but Cool mode still ends after some time. The fans then slow down without me noticing and the Mac heats up, so I have to re-enable Cool mode every time I notice it has been dropped.
What would you like Mole to do?
Please add an option to keep Cool / Max Cool mode with no time limit. For example, a setting like:
"Cool mode duration": Default (current behavior) / No limit (keep until I turn it off)
With this option enabled, Cool mode should stay active until I manually switch back to Auto, no matter how much time passes.
Current workaround
Whenever I notice Cool mode has ended, I select it again from the menu bar.
Examples, screenshots, or references
Environment: Mole 1.16.0, MacBook with Apple M2 Pro, macOS 26.6.2

@gwsoochoi Thanks for using Mole every day, and sorry Cool keeps ending unexpectedly. In the current app, “cooling ended” is the safeguard used when no temperature reading has arrived for 15 minutes. Turning off End fan boost after cooling does not disable that safeguard; with temperature readings available, there is no fixed duration limit.
I need to check why your M2 Pro is not supplying a reading before changing that protection. While the problem is happening, paste curl -fsSL 'https://mole.fit/downloads/Mole-Diagnose.command' | bash into Terminal, then email the Mole-Diagnose-*.zip left on your Desktop to hi@mole.fit with #1697 in the subject. Keep the ZIP off this public thread; I am leaving the issue open.
To work around the issue, I had already downloaded and tried the preview build, but for now I've switched to a lightweight script of my own that keeps the fan at a fixed 2500 RPM.
I'll reinstall the official release, test it again, and send you the results (including the diagnostic ZIP if the problem comes back) by email with #1697 in the subject.
@gwsoochoi Thanks for retesting. The latest 1.16.0 Preview (build 315) now falls back to the GPU temperature when no CPU sensor answers, so Cool keeps adjusting instead of returning to Auto with "no temperature", and the hold keeps running while the Mole window is closed.
Please try it in place of your fixed-RPM script. If Cool still ends, check whether Status shows a CPU temperature and email the diagnostic ZIP to hi@mole.fit with #1697 in the subject as planned; it holds the sensor list I need. I'm leaving this open until you've had a chance to test.
