Sord M5

The Sord M5 uses a TMS9918A VDP and is compatible with the PICO9918.

The Sord M5 was a home computer manufactured by Sord Computer Corporation of Japan, released in 1982. It used a Z80A CPU and TMS9918A VDP, and was sold in various markets under different brand names including the Sord M5 in Japan and Europe.

1. Power off and open the Sord M5
2. Locate the TMS9918A VDP in its 40-pin DIP socket
3. Carefully remove the existing VDP
4. Insert the PICO9918 in the same orientation (pin 1 aligned)
5. Connect video output (VGA dongle, Digital AV Dongle, or SCART)
6. Reassemble and power on

There is no native configurator ROM for the Sord M5. Use the web-based configurator to generate configuration and firmware update UF2 files.

• The Sord M5 uses a Z80A CPU with its own clock source
• CPUCLK and GROMCLK outputs from the PICO9918 are not used
• VDP is addressed via standard Z80 I/O ports
