WPWriter - Gemini CLI Extension

Manage your WordPress sites from Gemini CLI: create, edit, optimize, and publish content, generate images, and manage SEO, media, menus, plugins, and autoblogging - all in natural language.

WPWriter is BYOK (bring your own AI key) and connects to your own self-hosted WordPress sites with your own credentials.

Requirements (June 2026): As of June 18, 2026, Gemini CLI serves Enterprise / Gemini Code Assist accounts and API-key authentication. Free, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra individual accounts were discontinued for Gemini CLI - those users should use the Antigravity CLI, which imports your existing MCP servers (Antigravity support is on our roadmap).

On first use, Gemini CLI opens the WPWriter OAuth flow in your browser (no API key to copy/paste). After you authorize, the WPWriter toolset (~160 tools) is available in your session.

Verify it's connected:

gemini mcp list

Then just ask, e.g. "List my WordPress sites", "Create a draft post about 10 WordPress SEO tips for 2026", or "Show SEO scores for all my posts."

This extension uses WPWriter's hosted MCP server at https://mcp.wpwriter.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP). It supports OAuth 2.0 with Dynamic Client Registration + PKCE, and the manifest sets oauth.enabled: true so Gemini CLI registers itself and runs the browser login on first use - no pre-shared key.

The OAuth flow opens a browser and completes via a localhost redirect (fine for local/desktop CLI use). If you're headless/CI or prefer a static key, use the API-key method below.

Generate a wpw_... key in your WPWriter dashboard, then replace the mcpServers block with a static Authorization header (paste your real key in place of the placeholder):

WPWriter exposes ~160 tools across your connected WordPress sites. Unlike a basic REST-API wrapper, it's AI-native: it writes complete articles, generates and places images, and scores your SEO - not just create/list posts.
