Offload Task Skill

A Claude Code skill that offloads a single task to a separate Claude Code session in a cmux pane, keeping the main conversation context clean.

How it works

  1. Clarify — Synthesizes a clear, self-contained prompt from the conversation context
  2. Spawn — Creates a split pane in the current cmux workspace
  3. Dispatch — Launches Claude Code in the new pane and sends the task
  4. Return — Reports the surface ref and continues the main conversation

The worker runs autonomously — no monitoring or polling from the leader side. This is about context hygiene, not orchestration.

When to use this vs other approaches

  • Offload Task (this skill): One self-contained task you don't want in your main thread. Examples: "run the tests and fix whatever fails", "refactor that file", "write docs for the API module".
  • Supreme Leader: Multiple interdependent tasks that need coordination, monitoring, and review across a team of workers.
  • Agent tool: Quick subtask where you need the result back in the current conversation.

Prerequisites

  • Claude Code v2.1.71+
  • cmux — native macOS terminal for running multiple AI agents in parallel

Install

Clone into your Claude Code skills directory:

git clone https://github.com/ygrec-app/offload-task-skill.git ~/.claude/skills/offload-task

Usage

In any Claude Code session running inside cmux:

/offload-task

Or describe what you want naturally:

  • "Offload this to another pane"
  • "Do this on the side"
  • "Handle this in the background"
  • "I don't want this polluting my context"
