Part 1 4D Puzzle models 1/72 sdkfz 7 (really an 8)

 Hi guys

Part 1 of the 4D puzzles 1/72 Sdkfz 7 build, as previously suspected, from everything I can tell, this is actually a mislabeled Sdkfz 8, which is how I am proceeding with the project, for those wanting to build a display quality model of an sdkfz 8, I would go with the trumpeters version, however for war gamers or those not to concerned with an overly detailed model, then the price of this one makes it a good option.

There’s probably a lot I could do to improve the look of this model, I’d probably start by 3D printing replacement running gear, but I’m going to build it as is and add a bit of detail to improve it.

Interestingly this model snaps together, which is quite handy, because you can build it, then decide what you are going to replace, easily remove the part and work on it, so far, I have replaced to headlights, added the guide rods on the front fenders, pined the tracks into a more realistic slag, re shaped the stowage cage, filled a couple of holes and added stowage and crew. Then washed the model, I’ll let it dry over night and undercoat it. The one part I have left off so far is the dash and windscreen, I’m tossing up whether to model it up with the clear part or model it folded down with a cover. I have to say, despite the initial confusion caused by the mislabeling, it builds into a cheap but decent sdkfz 8.

Review, 4D Puzzle models Sdkfz 7 and 7/2, or is it an Sdkfz 8?

 Hi guys

(Please read the whole review, as I finished the review a thought occurred to me that may explain some things)

I have hundreds of unbuilt 1/72 WWII models in my stash, I don’t know how many exactly, but it’s somewhere between 500-700, plus I 3D print, so have hundreds of unpainted 3D models, probably 300-400, so I don’t really buy many models nowadays, but when curiosity and price point meet, I’ll make a purchase, I came across these 4D 1/72 Sdkfz 7 and 7/2 kits dirty cheap, and they looked simple but OK in the advertised, so it peaked my interest and I bought 2, they were around $7 Australian each with free shipping from China, they arrived a couple of months ago, but I had no time to make them until now, so I thought I’d make one and do a review for any others who may be interested.

I’ll write up a quick review, however, I don’t think I’ll bother making them, as I was unpacking, I thought they looked quite large, a little larger than I expect, so I did a quick measurement, at 1/72 the Sdkfz 7 should be about 32mm wide and 95mm long, the body of the model comes in at 36mm wide and 104mm long, so it’s actually 1/64th scale not 1/72nd, which is very annoying as they may with a little work have built up into a nice model.

This will be a short review, as the scale errors have almost annoyed me enough to the point of not doing one, I should have just printed a model,

The  packaging is a very simple set of clear plastic bags, with the instructions on a 1 page double sided sheet, the 2 models are the standard Sdkfz 7, and an armoured cab Sdkfz 7/2 flak 37 anti aircraft vehicle, at first glance they look simple, but may build into a decent wargaming model, curiously some of the parts are painted, I think these maybe the pre built version of a die cast model, which may account for the scale of 1/64 being aimed at the die cast hot wheels crowed rather than the 1/72 modelling crowed, but in an attempt to make more sales they are mislabeled as 1/72.

Having written all this, something has popped into my mind, is this kit incorrectly labelled as an Sdkfz 7 and 7/2? Is it an Sdkfz 8? The dimension are close to being correct for a 1/72 Sdkfz 8, however I’m not sure the 37mm flak 37 was mounted on the Sdkfz 8, having a closer look at the unarmored version (in grey plastic) there is a seem running down the middle of the bonnet, the sdkfz8 had a split bonnet, the Sdkfz 7 didn’t, so it looks like it is indeed an 8, which now begs the question, is the flak 37 dimensionally correct, if so, I can use that on a different model, and replace it with a flak 88

So in conclusion, it isn’t correct as an Sdkfz 7 and 7/2, but more correct as an Sdkfz 8 (yet to be confirmed through more research) but I’m unsure there was a sdkfz 8 with a flak 37 gun, more research needed, which all reinvigorates my interest in building this model, the un armoured Sdkfz 8 version anyway, I’ll look at finding a flak 88 for the armoured version. Pretty weird experience writing a review and changing directions mid review, I should probably re write the whole thing, but I’ll let it stand as is.

Review of Eureka Miniatures 28mm Conquistadors

Hi guys

Haven't done a review for a while, but these figs are so nice I thought others would like to see them if they don't already know about them, they are not new, but the first time I have bought them, I paid full price for these figs and was not asked to review them.
I actually bought these for a Conquistador based fantasy war band/adventurer team, for settings like Mordheim and Frostgrave, so I will be converting them a little to fit.
They are available from Eureka Miniatures
Historical accuracy : Being a commission painter I have a pretty good all round knowledge, and have very good knowledge in some periods, unfortunately the renascence is not my best period, I would have to do a study to give an accurate review in this area, all I can say is that they look right to me, accuracy will not be a problem for me as they will be used in a fantasy setting.
Proportions : I have pictured them alongside an old GW knight, a Perry plastic knight, and a newer GW plastic Imperial figure, they fit well with them all, they are sized somewhere between the Perry and newer GW fig, not quite as hefty as the GW fig though, but I would have no problem mixing them with any of these makes, anatomically they look correct to me, nice limb proportions, nothing looks out of place.
Sculpting : these are really nice, I'm quite impressed, very natural looking, nice delicate details, when I finish my current project, I'm looking forward to getting into these.
Poses : All nice and natural, nothing over the top, if you were going to do muti basing they look like they would rank up nicely, and theres enough "action" for individuality.
Equipment : everything is in proportion, no over the top GW weapons here, I asked for all helmeted figures in my order, which Nic at Eureka as usual, filled my order as directed, there are figures with soft caps/hats available in the range, and different weapons, also mounted figs (which I didnt need for this project) plenty of poses to, lots of variety, theres also a nice range of Portuguese figures, they are very similar, but a little less flamboyant, a little more scruffy, nice though. The dogs and handler are a nice addition to my band to, like those.
Customer service : Everything arrived safe and as I asked for, (postage was within country) Eureka Miniatures are great, I have never had an issue with them, price is pretty good to.
Almost forgot, I ordered a female empire looking figure as well from laughing Monk miniatures sold by Eureka Miniatures, found Here its advertised as 32mm which seems about right, (bottom pic) looks like it would fit in well with GW, is a pretty nice fig, it cost double that of the Eureka ones, but a quarter that of a GW character figure and just as nice I feel, nice natural pose, nicely sculpted, I will pic up a couple more of these Laughing monk figs as characters.

Review-Dark Alliance Stalker set 2

Hi guys

Review of set 1 can be seen here
I will be calling this the "funnies" set, set 1 contained mostly generic foot soldier types, set 2 contains some specialist types, the body proportions, poses and sculpting are all as good as set 1, and has the same firm sand coloured plastic, again with 12 poses for 48 figures.
The breakdown of each 12 man sprue of set 1 was
Assault rifles - 6
Shot guns - 3
pistol totters - 1 (double pistols)
sword swingers - 1 (double swords)
mini gunners - 1 (massive guy with a cigar and mohawk)
males - 11
Females - 1
gas masks - 4

The breakdown of each 12 man sprue of set 2 is
Assault rifle - 1
Sniper rifles - 2
arrow shooters - 2 (1 bow 1 crossbow)
LMG - 1
Grenade launcher - 1
Shotguns - 3
pistoleros - 1 (also has an axe)
Machete swingers -1 ( also has a machine pistol)
Leader with Binos - 1
Males - 11
Females - 1
exoskeletons - 2
gas masks - 3
Set 1 had a few figures that could be used for modern PMCs of special forces, set 2 has a much more sci fi/Post apoc feel, although the 2 sets fit perfectly with each other, the first pic below has both sets 1 and 2 side by side, the 2 sets provide 24 poses of Post Apoc badassery, again a 10/10 set, if I were to change anything I would drop a shot gun guy and add a flame thrower.
Next up Dark alliance survivors, another 12 Post apoc poses that fit in well with these first 24.
