Petula Clark...The International Hits.

Petula Clark, CBE (born Sally Olwen Clark; 15 November 1932) is a British singer, actress, and composer.

Clark's professional career began during the Second World War as a child entertainer on BBC Radio. In 1954 she charted with "The Little Shoemaker", the first of her big UK hits, and within two years she began recording in French. Her international successes have included "Prends mon coeur", "Sailor" (a UK number one), "Romeo", and "Chariot". Hits in German, Italian and Spanish followed. In late 1964 Clark's success extended to the United States with a four-year run of career-defining, often upbeat singles, many written or co-written by Tony Hatch (and Jackie Trent). These songs include her signature song "Downtown" and "I Know a Place", "My Love", "A Sign of the Times", "I Couldn't Live Without Your Love", "Who Am I", "Colour My World", "This Is My Song" (by Charlie Chaplin), "Don't Sleep in the Subway", "The Other Man's Grass Is Always Greener", and "Kiss Me Goodbye". In the United States Clark was sometimes called "the First Lady of the British Invasion". Clark has sold more than 68 million records. She has also enjoyed success in the musical film (Finian's Rainbow) and in the stage musicals The Sound of Music, Blood Brothers and Sunset Boulevard.

Petula Clark.

Petula Clark's many French recordings...
I think the cover is great...songs are good too not many well known ones...
Over the years she has recorded some great album's and singles...
One of her best CD's in my opinion was one called "Blue Lady"..."The Nashville Sessions "She recorded it in 1975 but it wasn't released till 1995 it was recorded for the ABC Record Company...reason for the delay according to the review was "Creative differences with the label" ,whatever that means so it was lying on a shelf for 20 years

I think we will end this session with two of "England's" best known female singers who have travelled the world to entertain everybody....Two distinctive voices that need no introduction of who they are.....And I've met both of them !!!..."Petula" twice once in the 50's and again in the 80's..."Shirl" in the early 60's when she was doing the "Variety" circuit !!

Petula Clark

As with most of the "Live" L/P's there are no gaps in between the tracks so this has been recorded as "Side One & Side Two"....As usual not much info on the back of the sleeve but it was "Petula's" 1972 performance...and a good one at that !!!....she recieved a CBE in 1998 ....maybe soon she will become a "Dame"

Petula Clark

Here's Pet at the very start of her singing career....songs from Films she made with the Huggets
I believe are the first few tracks, so they are not too good sound wise...but enjoyable if your a fan of Petula Clark !!

This anthology of her complete early singles is a detailed analysis of her Polygon recordings made between 1949 and 1955, which were also released on Esquire in Australia and Melodi in Denmark. By 1956 she would be recording for Nixa, and this would lead to her Pye, Vogue, and Warner Brothers recordings of the late '50s and early to middle '60s. Petula Clark was a ubiquitous teenaged movie star during the 1940s and early '50s, sometimes working with young Julie Andrews. Indeed, on some of these records Petula sounds a lot like Julie, or (dare one say it?) Mary Poppins. That's because the material is predominately light, happy-go-lucky innocent pop.

On this first post of 28 tracks which cover all of her original Polygon 78s lovingly re-mastered for the first time in one collection. In addition there are rare sides from Columbia and Decca, as well as rare overseas releases. From child star to her heyday and still performing today, six decades later! Petula Clark is a true icon of the music business.

11. BLOSSOMS ON THE BOUGH
12. SILVER DOLLAR
13. TALKY, TALKY, TALKY
14. FLY AWAY PETER, FLY AWAY PAUL
15. WHO SPILT THE COFFEE ON THE CARPET

Petula Clark

This is one of Pets American releases recorded in 1971 in Miami....not a hint of the "Hatch & Trent" sound...except of course on the title track which was not arranged by "Tony Hatch" but still has the same sound.....Seems that quite a few of Petula's American releases contains a Hit title track that became the title of the L/P.....She sings contemporary songs of the day by composers of today.

Petula Clark

This Petula L/P was the only one that she recorded for MGM....obviously in america there is not much information on the back cover I think it was probably 1972 or thereabouts Pets in good voice and the tracks are a mixture pop tunes... and one written by her and one by Tony Hatch & Jackie Trent....The arrangments are by "Don Costa" who has done most of "Eydie Gorme's" L/Ps so they are cool !!...(Now is 1972)....not 2019 !!

6. Baby I'm Yours
