"Shinding" is a funny episode of "Firefly". Kaylee buying her gown and then discussing mechanics in the ball with men is hilarious. Another funny moment is when the viewer sees what the Serenity needs to transport. The duel of Mal and Atherton is the weak part since Mal would never be able to win the showdown. My vote is seven.
Title (Brazil): "Shindig"

- TriviaWhen Kaylee calls Mal "Captain Tightpants" at the party, this was an inside joke referring to an incident that occurred while shooting the original pilot episode Serenity (2002). During the scene when Kaylee gets shot and Mal bends over to help her the back of Nathan Fillion's pants split, hence the name.
- GoofsThere is a wide shot of the ballroom dancers and in the archway in the back of the room you see the director walk into view wearing a Hawaiian shirt, shorts, and a baseball cap with headphones down around his neck. Just as he raises his hands to speak to the dancers, they cut away.
- Quotes
Sir Warwick Harrow: You have to finish it, lad. You have to finish it. For a man to lay beaten... and yet breathing? It makes him a coward.
Inara Serra: It's humiliation.
Mal: Sure. It would be humiliating. Having to lie there while the better man refuses to spill your blood. Mercy is the mark of a great man.
[lightly stabs Atherton with the sword]
Mal: Guess I'm just a good man.
[stabs him again]
Mal: Well, I'm all right.
- Alternate versionsThe intended order differs from the released order with the 2-hour pilot 'Serenity' and the season finale 'Objects in Space' being released in the middle of the show run. The true order appears on all modern media releases and is as follows - Serenity, The Train Job, Bushwacked, Shindig, Safe, Our Mrs. Reynolds, Jaynestown, Out of Gas, Ariel, War Stories, Trash, The Message, Heart of Gold, and Objects in Space.
- ConnectionsReferenced in White Noise 2: The Light (2007)
- SoundtracksString Trio in G Major, Op. 9 No. 1, III. Scherzo Allegro
Composed by Ludwig van Beethoven
All music played during the party is from Earth-That-Was composers. This piece plays during the introduction of the party and then again in the scene that begins with Kaylee holding the strawberry.
