GRANNY AND PEARL DUKE IT OUT.

I will say it again; if not for Paul Henning's next famous sitcom, PETTICOAT JUNCTION, Bea Benedaret would have been a regular on the series, however, her role more than likely would have cramped Granny's wild style. Case in point...

Granny and Cousin Pearl battle it out as to WHO will be the lead cook in the mansion kitchen. Granny insists its her kitchen, but Jed owns the mansion, right? So everything falls in Jed's lap, no choice but to act as the cooking and ironing mediator. First things first, he takes the ladies on a little tour of Beverly Hills to kinda' cool things off between the terrible twosome. Does it? Not really, but in between the feuding are some nice clips of Beverly Hills (albeit in black and white) in the early 60s.

Every so often, the show would display some interesting clips of the city, if not Hollywood, a thoughtful touch by producer Paul Henning. We fans loved it.

He made one mistake in the kitchen, and did you catch it? Like MA AND PA KETTLE, the Clampetts were not used to modern appliances, yet Cousin Pearl seems to be right at home, doing her thing. Bea Benedaret is a gas here, and listen for Linda Henning's voice (as Jethrine), who would later play her daughter in Petticoat Junction.

Thank you to director Richard Whorf for some creative scenes with two funny ladies. SEASON 5 remastered CBS dvd box set. Released 2015. Seasons 6 through 9 are expeceted to be released on blu ray in 2027.

    Jed's Dilemma

With both Granny and Cousin Pearl in the same roof in Beverly Hills. Tempers are frayed.

Cousin Pearl is happy to the cooking and ironing. She has got the kids to the cleaning. Granny is furious that the alarm failed to wake her up.

When she realised that Cousin Pearl told everyone that Granny is unwell. It leads to another slanging match.

Jed decides to take everyone for a ride and stops at a silent movie theatre.

Granny bans Cousin Pearl from the kitchen. She had not counted on an outdoor barbeque.

It was noticeable that Cousin Pearl has no issues with modern gadgets. Happy to use a steam iron or a barbeque grill.

I'm sure Max Baer jr enjoyed swinging on the chandelier.

    • Trivia
Cousin Pearl strongly suggests that Granny is many, many years her senior. In reality, Irene Ryan (Granny) was only 60 years old when this episode was made; Bea Benaderet (Pearl) was 57, just three years younger.
    • Goofs
As Jed fuels the truck with Granny's moonshine, the boom mic shadow is visible for a second.
    • Quotes

Cousin Pearl Bodine: I'll have vittles a-cookin' before you can say Jack Robinson.

Daisy Moses: Jack Robinson. And you stay outta my kitchen.

Cousin Pearl Bodine: I believe that kitchen happens to belong to my cousin Jed.

Daisy Moses: Well, I's a granny, and grannies is closer than cousins.

Cousin Pearl Bodine: Not when the granny's on the wife's side. I've got Clampett blood in my veins.

Daisy Moses: Well, you wanna keep it there, you stay outta my kitchen.
