    So many classic gags

Brilliant! Joke after joke lands with a satisfying ending, this is my favourite Homer episode.

I think the spooky factor could have been more but its a tone choice that doesn't in any way hurt the episode.

I like how while homer is gullible, he eventually catches on that people are making fun of him or pulling his leg.

    Just Hilarious

I've never actually seen an episode of the X Files. I feel now it is my duty. I thought this was marvelous. The abduction by Aliens was pretty fresh in 1997 and so Homer's ordeal would have been quite disturbing. There were several references to other science fiction movies as well. The show just hits it stride here.

    Oh my god

Yes. Just yes. More of this. This is the greatest episode from this show in history. Bar none

    Well then, goodnight!

FBI Agents Mulder and Scully investigate Homer's alleged alien encounter.

This is a classic episode with a great tribute to The X Files.

If you are a fan of the parodied show you will probably love The Springfield Files. The writers use the deadpan X Files characters as a foil for the crazy humour of the Springfield residents and make it feel like one of Mulder and Scully's episodic adventures.

The humour is prolific, with a constant stream of sight gags and verbal punchlines. My favourite moment is when Homer and Marge are chatting in bed together and he takes umbrage to her not believing his story.

Guest voice performers David Duchovny, Gillian Anderson and in particular Leonard Nimoy are excellent.

I don't think every single punchline lands, which for me is why it falls just shy of perfect at 9.5/10, but I round upwards.

    The Simpsons Are Out There

What a great episode. Again shows how good season 8 was of The Simpsons.

Not only do you get Fox and Muldaur, but you also get Leonard Nimoy in a very funny apperance.

It helps that I am a huge fan of Star Trek and The X Files. So I found this episode to be even more appealing.

Excellent episode and in my top 5 for sure.

Lisa: Wait! You want an alien? This is your alien.

Mr. Burns: [in a high-toned voice] Hello, children. I bring you love.

    • Alternate versions
The syndicated version shortens the opening title sequence, also cuts out the scene where Milhouse has to deposit 40 quarters to play an arcade game, and shortens the scene with Homer running through the woods by cutting out Homer going past an owl.
