Together: A Love Story That Twists into Body Horror

After the success of The Substance, body horror is making a terrifying comeback, and newcomer Michael Shanks is diving headfirst into the genre with Together. Starring real-life couple Alison Brie and Dave Franco, this psychological horror film blurs the lines between love, transformation, and pure nightmare fuel.

Premiering at Sundance on January 26, 2025, Together left audiences disturbed and intrigued, cementing itself as one of the festival’s most talked-about films. Now, it’s set to bring its unsettling vision to the masses when it releases in the United States on August 1, 2025.

TOGETHER Trailer (2025)

TOGETHER Trailer (2025) Alison Brie, Dave Franco

A Trailer That Speaks Without Words

The trailer wastes no time in setting a haunting tone. It opens with a vinyl record spinning, playing a melancholic instrumental piano cover of L’amour est un oiseau rebelle. We see Tim (Dave Franco) and Millie (Alison Brie) embracing their new life in the countryside—laughing, hiking, and holding hands in what seems like the beginning of a romantic drama.

But then, the unease begins.

While hiking, Tim freezes. Ahead of him, two dogs stand motionless, staring blankly into the distance. Something about them feels deeply wrong.

Later, in a quiet classroom, Millie—who appears to be a teacher—finds a child’s disturbing drawing: two dogs biting each other’s faces, locked in an unnatural, grotesque struggle. The image lingers, mirroring Tim’s eerie encounter.

A Descent into Body Horror
As the trailer progresses, the warm, romantic atmosphere crumbles into something grotesque:

Shadows shifting unnaturally.
Objects subtly moving on their own.
Tim standing in front of a mirror, his mouth stretched unnaturally as he pulls a long, hair-like thread from deep within his throat. His reflection stares back, motionless.
The horror intensifies with quick, fragmented glimpses:

Tim wandering barefoot into the woods, his body shaking.
Millie staring at her hands, something beneath her skin moving.
A distorted figure emerging from the darkness—its form disturbingly human, but not quite.
Tim whispering something to his own reflection, but his mouth doesn’t match the words.
A final shot: Millie, her expression unreadable, softly saying—
“I love you too.”

Then, cut to black.

Why Together is a Must-Watch Horror Film

With The Substance proving that audiences are ready for visceral, transformation-based horror, Together is poised to push the genre even further. Michael Shanks’ feature directorial debut leans into psychological horror with heavy body horror elements, making it a disturbing and unforgettable experience.

Alison Brie and Dave Franco’s real-life chemistry adds an unsettling authenticity to their on-screen descent. Their love is tangible—but is it enough to survive what’s happening to them? Or are they becoming something else entirely?

Find out when Together hits theaters on August 1, 2025.

The Ugly Stepsister A Grotesque Cinderella Horror Retelling

The Ugly Stepsister: A Grotesque Cinderella Horror Retelling

The Ugly Stepsister takes fairy tales to a whole new level of horror. This film is set to redefine horror reimaginings of classic stories.  This Norwegian horror film offers a disturbing reimagining of Cinderella, exploring the nightmarish extremes of 19th-century beauty standards. With no anesthesia and questionable results, plastic surgery in this era was truly horrifying, and this film does not shy away from its gruesome reality.

Last year, we saw two horror adaptations of CinderellaCinderella’s Revenge and Cinderella’s Curse—both of which reimagined Cinderella as the killer. Now, it’s her stepsister’s turn to take the spotlight in this gruesome tale.

A Chilling Directorial Debut

Marking the feature film debut of writer-director Emilie Blichfeldt, known for her work in short films, The Ugly Stepsister is a bold and grotesque addition to the body horror genre. The film stars Lea Myren as Elvira, the titular stepsister, while Agnes—this adaptation’s equivalent of Cinderella—is played by Agnes.

THE UGLY STEPSISTER Trailer (2025)

Beauty at a Terrifying Cost

Elvira harbors deep jealousy toward her beautiful stepsister, Agnes. Alongside her mother and younger sister, she cruelly mistreats Agnes while desperately trying to make herself more desirable in the eyes of the prince. Her obsession leads her to undergo extreme and brutal procedures, including having a bump on her nose hammered down—a harrowing depiction of historical plastic surgery. Anesthesia was not a thing back then. Even more disturbingly, in her desperation to lose weight, she ingests tapeworms harvested from rotting corpses. The film’s unrelenting depiction of these horrific transformations makes for an unsettling yet captivating experience. She does all of this to get the validation from the Prince.

Critical Acclaim and Cultural Reflection

Critics on Rotten Tomatoes have praised the film for its unflinching approach to body horror. More than just a gruesome spectacle, The Ugly Stepsister forces viewers to confront the toxic nature of beauty standards and the extreme lengths some will go to for societal acceptance.

Blichfeldt has revealed that the film draws inspiration from both the Brothers Grimm fairytale and her personal struggles with body image, making it a deeply personal and thought-provoking project.  It is Currently playing in Norwegian cinemas, The Ugly Stepsister is set to reach a wider audience with an eventual release on Shudder. This is one horror film that will leave viewers not only unsettled but perhaps even grateful for their own reflections in the mirror.

Silent Hill F, So beautiful it is terrifying!

Silent Hill F: Is This Prequel Connected to the Mainline Silent Hill Series?

Konami has unveiled a chilling new trailer and showcase for Silent Hill F, the latest mainline entry in the iconic survival horror series. This installment introduces players to Shimizu Hinako, an ordinary teenager whose peaceful life is shattered when her town becomes consumed by an ominous fog, thrusting her into a living nightmare.

Set in 1960s Japan, Silent Hill F marks the first mainline game in the franchise not set in the United States. The town of Ebisugaoka, once tranquil and familiar, transforms into a twisted landscape filled with grotesque creatures and mind-bending puzzles. As Hinako, likely between 14 to 16 years old based on her school uniform and the era, navigates this eerie world, she must make life-altering choices that blur the line between beauty and horror.

Interestingly, Ebisugaoka’s mysterious fog bears a haunting resemblance to the cursed mist that envelops the town of Silent Hill. This connection has led to speculation that Ebisugaoka may share a deeper link to the origins of Silent Hill’s nightmare realm. Given that Silent Hill F is set in the 1960s, it chronologically predates the events of Silent Hill and Silent Hill Origins, suggesting that this could be one of the earliest manifestations of the series’ iconic fog and otherworldly terror.

A key visual theme of Silent Hill F is “so beautiful it’s scary.” Players will frequently encounter fields of vibrant red spider lily flowers. In Japanese culture, these striking flowers symbolize death and are traditionally associated with farewells and the afterlife. Their presence adds an unsettling layer to the game’s atmosphere, blending beauty with foreboding terror. The contrast between the flowers’ haunting beauty and their ominous meaning deepens the psychological horror, making each encounter with them a chilling experience. This theme was also hauntingly portrayed in the first teaser, where a girl, running for her life, succumbs to death. Beautiful flowers bloom from her decaying body, reinforcing the game’s motif of beauty intertwined with horror.

Silent Hill F official Trailer

SILENT HILL f | Reveal Trailer

Given Japan’s strict laws during the 1960s, it’s unlikely that Hinako would be wielding heavy firearms against the monstrosities she faces. Instead, her weapons are grounded in realism and accessibility. Her primary weapon is a metal pipe, a practical choice for a teenage girl of that era. She may also resort to using other lightweight, everyday items such as kitchen knives, wooden sticks, or improvised tools that could be found in her surroundings. This grounded approach to combat not only adds to the game’s realism but also heightens the tension, forcing players to confront danger up close and personal.

This game also introduces the youngest protagonist in Silent Hill history, adding a unique perspective to the franchise’s psychological themes. It is penned by acclaimed writer Ryukishi07, known for his work in crafting intricate and haunting narratives. Complementing the storytelling is a haunting score, featuring contributions from legendary composer Akira Yamaoka, who has composed some of the most iconic songs in the franchise, such as “You’re Not Here” and “Your Rain,” enhancing the atmosphere with chilling melodies.

SILENT HILL Transmission (EN) with subtitles | March 13, 2025 | KONAMI

While Silent Hill F presents a new setting and era, its themes of isolation, fear, and psychological torment remain true to the series’ legacy. Fans are already speculating how this prequel might tie into the broader Silent Hill mythos. Could the origins of the town’s curse be traced back to this fog-drenched nightmare? Only time will tell.

Interestingly, Silent Hill F follows the release of Silent Hill: The Short Message, a spin-off set in Germany, making it the first game in the series to venture outside the USA. However, Silent Hill 4: The Room holds the distinction of being the first to step away from the town of Silent Hill itself.

The Steam page for Silent Hill F is now live, though Konami has yet to announce an official release date. The trailer is presented in Japanese with English subtitles, and fans are hoping that an English dub will be available upon release. As anticipation builds, fans are eager to unravel how this latest chapter will expand the series’ haunting legacy.

Will Hinako embrace the hidden beauty within terror, or will she be consumed by the madness that awaits? The choices she makes could change everything—for her and for Silent Hill itself.

the dark domain

The Dark Domain: The Inevitable Mickey Vs Winnie The Pooh Horror Film

Winnie the Pooh became a public domain character in January of 2022 and unwittingly introduced the concept of turning freshly let loose IPs into the centerpieces of low-budget horror movies. The trend got a lot louder when Mickey Mouse became PD two years later. Now the inevitable has happened: someone’s making a “crossover” movie where Evil Mickey and Evil Pooh fight, killing a lot of folks in the process. They call it The Dark Domain: MVW Mickey-vs-Winnie and it’s being brought into existence by Untouchables Entertainment.

I could describe the “lore” of this thing, but I can’t possibly do it better justice than they did, so:

A century ago, two convicts disappeared into Hell Forest, a place feared for its dark legends and whispers of a malevolent curse. Their mysterious vanishing marked the beginning of tales about a sinister force lurking within the forest, feeding on those who dared to enter.

In the present day, a group of childhood friends, each haunted by their own unresolved traumas and fears, feels an inexplicable pull to return to the reform school they once attended. Nestled in the center of the forest’s dark heart, the abandoned hell-camp stands as a decaying monument to their lost innocence. Its walls echoing with secrets and forgotten horrors. Each of them is drawn by a force they cannot understand, as if the forest itself is calling them to confront the darkness of their anxieties, regrets, and unhealed wounds.

The forest takes shape in the grotesque forms of twisted versions of two beloved childhood figures: Dark Mickey and Dark Winnie. These monstrous entities, born from the darkest corners of the group’s psyche, embody their worst fears and regrets—Dark Mickey, a sinister manipulator and bloodthirsty force of chaos, and Dark Winnie, a feral predator who thrives on destruction.

As the two clash in a violent, unrelenting battle, their fight becomes more than just a physical confrontation. These twisted incarnations, born from the group’s own inner demons, force them to face not only the nightmarish creatures but also the darkness within themselves.

That’s quite a lot to chew on. You could say these guys really take their Winnie the Pooh horror seriously. Dark Mickey is played by Daniel Wilkinson, who previously starred in something called Pitchfork, and Dark Winnie is Chris Boudreaux, who has NCIS on his resume. The flick was directed by Glenn Douglas Packard.

The Dark Domain: MVW Mickey-vs-Winnie has finished post-production and is expected to premiere later this year. Oh bother.

Bambi The Reckoning He wants to avenge his mm

Bambi: The Reckoning, He wants to avenge his mm

Bambi: The Reckoning ,From Disney Darling to Public Domain  exploitation (And Why Your Childhood is Officially Cancelled)

So, Bambi, that wide-eyed fawn who taught us the harsh realities of forest life and the importance of not trusting men with guns, has officially kicked down the velvet ropes and stumbled into the chaotic mosh pit of the public domain. Yes, folks, as of January 2021, Bambi is free! Free to be… anything. And by “anything,” I mean apparently, a vengeful woodland terror.
Now, it took a few years for the creative minds of the “Poohverse” (yes, that’s a thing, and yes, we need to talk about that later) to realize the potential. Apparently, someone finally yelled, “Wait a minute! We can make Bambi a slasher flick!” And thus, a cinematic masterpiece (or at least, a gloriously chaotic mess) was born.
Because, clearly, nothing says timeless childhood classic like turning your favorite animated characters into vengeful monsters. The Poohverse—a horror-themed cinematic experiment that began with Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey—set the stage for this twisted reimagining. With public domain laws cracking open Disney’s vault like a cursed treasure chest, filmmakers realized they could turn childhood nostalgia into horror gold. Now, we’ve got Blood and Honey 2, a planned Peter Pan horror, a twisted Pinocchio, and yes—Bambi: the Reckoning is this stag’s revenge-fueled massacre. You can smell the tears of people crying their childhood is ruined.

Bambi: The Reckoning Official trailer

BAMBI: THE RECKONING (2025) Official Trailer (HD) BAMBI HORROR MOVIE

The Plot:

A mother and son survive a car crash, only to realize they’re not alone. A grief-stricken, mutated Bambi is out for blood, and he’s not stopping until the forest—and everyone in it—pays for his mother’s death.

The Cast: A Who’s Who of “Wait, I’ve Seen Them In Something…?”Roxanne McKee (Game of Thrones, Dominion, Hercules): Playing Xana, the mother who now has to fight off a bloodthirsty deer instead of political intrigue and mythical monsters.

Tom Mulheron (The Cursed, Extraction 2): Playing Benji, Xana’s little son.

Nicola Wright (Sexy Beast, The Jack in the Box, The Young Victoria): Playing Mary.

Samira Mighty (Love Island, Beauty and the Beast: A Pantomime): Playing Harriet.

Russell Geoffrey Banks (Ghost House, Who’s Watching Oliver, The Edge of Madness): Playing Andrew.

Catherine Adams (Survival Instinct, The House of Screaming Death): Playing Jo.

Alex Cooke: Playing Simon.

Big Tobz (Musician, Rapper, Actor): Playing Tyler.

David Ambler (Haunted Ulster Live): Playing Rob.

Adrian Relph: Playing Michael.

Joseph Greenwood: Playing Harrison.

Luke Cavendish: Playing Joshua.

Director Dan Allen: The Man Who Dared to Ask, “What If Bambi Was a Serial Killer?”Dan Allen, the visionary behind this… cinematic experience, has bravely asked the question no one else dared to utter: “What if Bambi was less ‘gentle fawn’ and more ‘vengeful stag of doom’?” We can only assume his pitch involved a lot of frantic hand gestures and perhaps a PowerPoint presentation titled The Dark Side of Disney.

What to Expect (Probably):Lots of jump scares involving antlers.

A surprisingly high body count for a film about a deer.

Dialogue that will make you question your life choices.

A scene where Thumper uses his foot to do something other than tapping.

A post-credit scene that will make you question the future of cinema.

It probably won’t win any awards, but let’s be real—Bambi: The Reckoning will still be a better movie than Emilia Perez, which should stop winning awards because that movie is terrible.

In conclusion, Bambi’s venture into the public domain has clearly taken a turn for the… interesting. Buckle up, folks. Your childhood is officially in the hands of filmmakers who clearly believe that nostalgia is best served with a side of blood and mayhem. And honestly, we’re kind of here for it.

heart eyes

Heart Eyes Comes To Blu-Ray April 15, Digital Today

This tax season, why not shrug off the deadline in style by watching a Valentine’s day themed violent comedy-horror slasher instead? On April 15, Sony Pictures’ Heart Eyes will make its Blu-Ray debut.

This is still playing in some theaters, actually — Valentine’s Day wasn’t that long ago, and Sony figured audiences were in the mood for something a little more unconventional. Heart Eyes didn’t do THAT well (probably why it’s coming to home video so soon), but it didn’t bomb either. So, what’s this thing about?

If you guessed “a serial killer who wears a mask with LED hearts over the eyes,” you’d be right, but you’re also a cheater since all you did was look at the box art. The real stars of Heart Eyes are the “couple” at its center. Heart Eyes wreaks his/her/their vengeance every February 14 by going after romantic lovers. But he/she/they kinda goofed this time: the pair they’re trying to kill don’t really like each other, they’re just stuck together at work one evening. WILL they fall in love? I mean probably, why would the story turn out any other way, but they may have to survive a lot of murder attempts to get there.

Heart Eyes was written and produced by one of our favorite modern movie makers, Christopher Landon — he was responsible for the awesome Happy Death Day movies as well as Freaky. You can sense a pattern from this guy — horror-comedies with slasher antagonists are his niche, but it’s a niche he works well. Olivia Holt and Mason Gooding play the main characters; the identity of Heart Eyes is a mystery.

When you open the Blu-Ray to this film, here’s what you get:

BLU-RAY™ & DIGITAL EXTRAS

  • Murders & Meet Cutes: The Making of Heart Eyes
  • Gag Reel
  • Deleted & Extended Scenes
  • Filmmaker Commentary

DVD EXTRAS

  • Murders & Meet Cutes: The Making of Heart Eyes

Note that these extras also apply to the digital version, which comes out today. But the physical version of Heart Eyes slashes its way to your heart April 15.

Control Freak: A Hulu Horror That Will Make You Fear the Itch

Control Freak: A Hulu Horror That Will Make You Fear the Itch
Hulu’s newest psychological horror film, Control Freak, offers a chilling yet darkly comedic dive into perfectionism, control, and the horrifying consequences of losing both. Starring Kelly Marie Tran in a captivating lead role, this movie transforms a simple nuisance—an itchy scalp—into an unsettling body horror experience that will make you hyper-aware of every little tingle on your skin.

Kelly Marie Tran takes on the role of Val, a motivational speaker known for her TED Talks, where she inspires thousands to take charge of their lives. On stage, she exudes confidence, but behind the scenes, Val struggles with internal battles she cannot seem to win. Beneath her poised exterior lies a woman plagued by compulsions and anxieties that refuse to be tamed.

When an unexplained itch starts tormenting her scalp, Val initially chalks it up to stress. But as the irritation worsens, her grip on reality begins to unravel. The more she scratches, the deeper her paranoia digs in. Could it just be psychological, or is something far more sinister at play? Her nightmare truly begins when she visits her homeland and unknowingly becomes the host of demonic, ant-like insects—tiny, relentless creatures burrowing under her skin with a persistence that rivals the most determined horror villains. As Val’s obsession with controlling her own body spirals, the line between self-discipline and self-destruction blurs, leading her down a harrowing path of paranoia and grotesque self-mutilation.

Psychological Horror Meets Body HorrorWritten and directed by Shal Ngo, Control Freak seamlessly blends psychological torment with visceral body horror, creating a slow-burning dread that intensifies with each scene. The film critiques the toxic pressures of self-improvement culture, where the relentless pursuit of perfection often conceals deeper insecurities and fears. Through Val’s descent into madness, Control Freak delves into themes of anxiety, repression, and the horrifying consequences of trying too hard to fix what isn’t broken.

Tran delivers a gripping performance, balancing Val’s public charisma with her private unraveling. As her condition worsens, viewers are taken on a deeply unsettling journey filled with skin-crawling imagery that will have them resisting the urge to scratch their own skin.

If you ever had fleas as a child, this could be a nostalgic nightmare—or a full-blown relapse into childhood trauma. Either way, prepare yourself for some serious phantom itching.
