Rurality - Darn Birds!

It's close if not time to harvest the cherry crop in North Central Washington. To protect their crops, the growers resort to several different ways to keep the birds away and the cherries on their trees. Gone are the days of the old style scarecrows on a stick out in the field.

Rurality - Old Time Filling Station

I took this last winter, but since the snow is falling again here in Minnesota, time to break out my photos with snow. Especially since I haven't been out and about doing much photography.

I would love to stop and learn more about this place that the homeowner has on his property. Was he a former gas station owner or was it a family affair? I am just too shy to do it but I sure do like it!

Rurality - Drive Thru, Farm Style

I think a small car could drive under this tractor! To the best of my knowledge, this type of tractor is used to spray crops. The tall wheels allow it to drive down the rows of crops and over them without causing damage. When the tractor is not in spray mode, the rails that would normally jut out are swung back along the tractor sides.

Rurality - The Tractor Did It

Maybe these signs are just posted during the harvest season, or maybe they go up during Spring planting and stay until Winter. I don't know the answer, but to me they are a sure sign of rural life when drivers have to be warned about mud on the road due to the tractors moving from field to field.

Rurality Blog Hop - Fill 'Er Up!

It's that time of year when the farmers are furiously harvesting their crops before the snow flies and then delivering their grain to the silos for transport to points unknown.

Rurality - Prom Night

Once you get out of the downtown Fargo, North Dakota area, it is primarily an agricultural landscape. Farm after farm, pastures and fields galore. Quite nice actually, since I prefer the rural lifestyle.

The other weekend was Prom Night for many of the schools in West Central Minnesota and the Fargo area. You know you are in farm or ranch country when your limo ride to prom looks like this:
