MOVIE CLIP WEDNESDAY!
oh, yeah, baby, i am so going with the first die hard! ok, the idea was the best action movie and this may not be the best, but it is my secret pleasure, my movie jones, my idea of the best type of action flick - fast, intense action, just enough plot to be engaging and alan rickman is in it! i have other favorites, but boxer said try and keep it to one movie! check out her place and see the other entries! join us every wednesday, just list your pick in the comment section and then on your blog tell why y'all chose it. and thank you to youtube for making this all possible!

happy birthday, boxer!
drop by as soon as y'all can and wish our pal, boxer a very happy birthday! from the first time she left a comment here, i have known she was one of those people i could always count on for truth and support and a mean right hook when needed. she is honest, courageous, supportive and even though we've never met, i know she's a real pal!
besides, if it weren't for boxer, we wouldn't have MOVIE CLIP WEDNESDAY! (topic for tomorrow: best action movie)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, BOXER!

Favorite Animation is today's subject:
ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, i give you from 1949,
Disney's Wind In The Willows!

another chance to begin again...
one of the movies i watched while i was killing time cleaning house was blade runner for the gazillionth time. one of things that hit me was remembering the first time i saw it. we were in downtown l.a. not far from where some of the scenes were shot. all the landmark buildings, the tunnel all enhanced by the artist brush in post-production, but at that moment very possible. we were so young and that time seemed so far in the future and now, that future is only 9 years away.
and then i watched the secret life of bees.
all of this to say, thanks to all y'all for your good wishes and comforting words. the MITM is in paris as i write this and will be boarding a plane tomorrow around noon and home later tomorrow night. air france gave him a voucher for a hotel room and a meal, so at least, he's out of the duststorm, out of deepestdarkestafrica and almost home.
and this time when i said i'll see you tomorrow it will really happen!

reason and perspective
story behind the picture from the guys who know. thanks to nasa earth observatory for the info and letting me nick the photo!
it's confirmed, the MITM will fly out MONDAY, land at CDG and overnight there and arrive, hopefully in ATL on TUESDAY and at SAV around midnight. all that to say, he'll be home soon. it isn't what we'd planned, but i'm not going to complain.
he's coming home.
super nana called to tell me that a parent of one of her high school pals had died. he and the MITM used to talk about music when they were together. Ruben was a real jazz fan; he called the MITM the day miles davis died. we were all connected when the girls were in school and lost touch later. the girls have kept in touch over the years. i couldn't remember Ruth and Ruben when she called, but this morning it was if i'd seen them just yesterday. the MITM remembered them immediately. Ruben was the same age as the MITM.
i've complained about how difficult these work separations are, but given not only our economy, but the world stage, i am grateful he has work. it is not a given that contracts will be signed or that money owed will be paid, but like the majority of the population, we'll get by...
have a great weekend, my darlings!
UPDATE:
just that fast, the flight has been changed again! home late WEDNESDAY NIGHT! he's trying to remain positive and feels that once he's at CDG, in front of the AF people, he can find a way to get home sooner. i have to keep reminding myself that he just needs to get out of deepestdarkestafrica first because the sandstorm is still raging there! i'll stop raging soon and go clean something.

i was right
somehow i jinxed it.
i mean, a sandstorm?
my heart hurts.
and it might not be just a day.
this is deepestdarkestafrica we're talking about.
come on: goodthoughtsgoodthoughtsgoodthoughts.
17.23 so, here's the deal, there's no one at the air france counter in deepestdarkestafrica now. just a sign that says come back tomorrow before 11.30AM here at home, our local travel agent is trying to find out what the hell is going on and when the MITM can expect to leave. you'd think that the scheduled flight would take off as soon as the sandstorm dissipated. of course, it is a tricky situation, and safety is primary, but the plane never left paris because the sandstorm in deepestdarkestafrica lingered longer than expected. so, if it does leave CDG, what then? will AF just bump everyone to the next flight? will AF send 2 flights in? will he take off tomorrow? or will it be saturday before he can leave? what about connecting flights? what if it's sunday?
*sigh*
18.11 AF issued a ticket for sunday, 21march. he will go to the counter tomorrow and see if anything has changed. the possibility exists that an unscheduled flight might take place or that the totally booked and closed waitlist flight for saturday, 20march will have an opening.

things i'm thinking about right now
1. blog pal, daniel hoffman-gil is in my last five girlfriends opening this weekend in the uk!
check it out if you can. looks fun and besides, residual checks are always a good thing!
2. i just said i'll see you tomorrow because saying goodbye makes me too sad and yes, in my hyper-superstitious frame of mind, well, we'll just leave it at that, ok?
3. why is the process so much more important than the substance these days when it comes to politics? i understand and recognize the need for law and order, but isn't form supposed to follow function? why aren't we listening to what is being said, instead of how it's being said? these are all rhetorical questions because i know most of the time the answers are swayed by political persuasion. i'm not holding a debate, i'm just sharing some of my own thoughts with the cosmos.
4. i wish there was a way to find out what has happened to some missing bloggers i used to read. they seem to have just disappeared without a trace. anyone know what happened to captain dyke, the lesbian pirate queen? or conan drumm? or doc maroon?
5. why am i such a procrastinator?
check it out if you can. looks fun and besides, residual checks are always a good thing!

Movie Clip Wednesday: Best Death
yeah, it's true, i picked the worst of the trilogy, BUT, the death scene is a perfect example of over the top acting, great editing, cinematography, lighting and at the end, the perfect death for an old man who became what he least wanted to be because he was seduced by power - he died alone and far away from where he began. this was pacino not playing a caricature of pacino. hat tip to super nana for suggesting it!

good news: the MITM is out of deepestdarkestafrica and will be home soon.
i'm sort of doing a countdown, but only in my head because to put it on paper (i KNOW! how old school am i?) might jinx it. *throwing salt over my shoulder and shaking my head in time to still the one because i even mentioned it*
around the world, the irish blog awards are coming up (i didn't post the link, but all y'all know how to find it) BUT, everyone's favorite artist eoali will be showing some of his paintings. click the link to see his work.
i know we're all pals around here, but have y'all checked out some of the blogs on my sidebar? some heady stuff over there. if y'all haven't already, check out one or 2 that are new and enjoy some really good people.

BIG BIG BIG shout-out to mago for emailing me about the fact this blog had gone invitation only earlier today by a dumb mistake on my part! the MITM also thanks you, mago!
one of our favorite michael keaton movies
favorite lines from this movie? here ya go:
Paul Bladden, New York Sentinel: Well, I hope you're satisfied, asshole! You just blew your chance to cover the world!
Henry: Really? Well guess fucking what? I don't really fucking care. You wanna know fucking why? Because I don't fucking live in the fucking world! I live in fucking New York City! So go fuck yourself!
[Henry slams down telephone back on the receiver]
yeah, baby, we have used variations on this line since the movie came out...
local news: i sprained my left knee and i've been icing it on and off for the last 3 days. it's raining. i'm trying to find joy in the small things...
if y'all don't already know about the poetry foundation, then do yourself a favor and visit now and as often as possible, too!

movie clip wednesday: funny
To participate in Movie Clip Wednesday, post your favorite movie clip that matches the weekly theme and come by here to let me know. Write only the title of your movie in the comments, but on your blog it would be fun to know why you picked it. (thanks again to a.boxer)
i chose this video because it's funny on so many levels: sex, lies and rob reiner's mom at the end! maybe it isn't the funniest scene ever, but humor is like wine, sometimes impossible to describe, but you always know what you like.
i've shown you mine, now show me yours!
so, anyone going to play today?
