Description/Reviews: 

Without attempting to pigeon-hole Trentini, those notes to the aforementioned Mr. Mister, and Eighties popular and so-called new wave music in general, give me some reference point. His largely lighter melodic, progressive, even popish, rock reminds me of the period, but also envelopes sounds like Yes, Genesis, and maybe even some earlier Ambrosia, without the symphonic embellishment. If any instrument stands out it's the guitar and it's clean lines and leads amidst some brisk and crisp riffs. After this, Trentini adds some piano and synths, yet never over ambitious like gross embellishment. No, the move with both accent and rhythm complimenting both guitar and rhythm section.
Even with all this, none of these are the key element to the Moonbound sound. It's Trentini himself. He has this distinct melodic and harmonious voice that envelopes everything and lifts them higher. His presence is both commanding, in an assuring and benign sense, and delightful. Simply, he's easy to listen to sweetening your ears as honey sweetens tea. His vocals embrace and carry the melody of every song putting this music into an ethereal atmosphere.

The South American personality is always characterized by a high pitch singer with a lyrical tendency and once again, this fact is true with DEUS X MACHINA…The European influence is also displayed in majority mixed with a subtle Prog Metal flavors and of course some early ANGRA's (“Reborn In The Fire”) similarities.
All along the running time singer Sebastian Ferraro demonstrates a real temper and a great mastery (except maybe for a single track, “The Curse Of Capistrano” and its refrain which is the only low point of the whole CD) sounding like a cross between Fabio Lione (VISION DIVINE/RHAPSODY OF FIRE) and HIBRIA’s Iuri Sanson in the perfect celebration of M.Kiske’s legacy.
Their most Progressive moment is at slot number eight, a long and epic track that shows a slightly different style with some intriguing vocals and a pretty complicated Neo-Classical structure without losing their typical energy… Very interesting and quite promising.

The first track with a bombastic opening sets the tone and the Symphony X influences  and singing style are recognized. The typical rhytmn in the second track (with some 70's keyboard parts) make me think of (who still knows that fabulous band) Maraya in their 'No Hope For Humanity' period. "Watch Me Rise"is a faster more chaotic starting track with a nice drive, sometimes slowed down by melodic singing parts. "The Age of Sadness" is a slower more melodic track with Angra references. "Wings of Destruction" sets off like a track from the first Dream Theater album with very tight drumming and the same kind of atmosphere, "Phoenix" is one of the most straight forward tracks with a nice riff, a contagious melody and a nice almost AOR sounding refrain. Songs with a title "Alone" need most of the times no comment on what kind of style they are and indeed you guessed it. Every good album needs a ballad and with this track they fill that need.

Adamantra are more than competent musicians be it the drums, guitar, bass or keyboards they have it well covered. Clean vocals feature on the album with some harder tones like you would hear in say Symphony X. Act II: Silent Narratives commences with an eighteen minute track "Lionheart" which like the remainder of this album will be right up the alley of anyone who admires Symphony X, Adagio, Circus Maximus, Seventh Wonder and the like. "Lionheart" builds in to one of the most gripping progressive epics in some time, the instrumental passages sound fantastic with ample alteration in heaviness and tempo. "Three" features heavy and complex progressive metal, keyboards provide an enchanting introduction "In The Shadows Of The Cross" before the progressive metal takes centre stage and double kicks are flowing for the chorus. A fine heavy progressive groove kicks in for "The Oracle" one that you cannot resist, added female vocals complement the varied and engrossing music as it sweeps you away on "Angel Of Music". Whether it be "Red Death", "Wicked Chain Of Events", "Circle Of Sorrow" or the power of "On Ember Remains" which ends incorporating the music that was introduced on "Lionheart" Adamantra's progressive metal continues to have me completely engrossed.

The Last Horizon showcases an even approach, with a healthy mix of fast-paced scorchers, like “Run for Your Life” and “No Turning Back”, and slower, mid-tempo melodic metal, such as “Keep the Flame Alive”. This is in a rather stark comparison to Kenziner’s previous full length, The Prophecies, was exceptionally front loaded (all the killer tracks first, which left the remaining filler to fizzle out by the end). Keskinen’s guitar skills have certainly not waned over the years, as there are shredding, Malmsteen styled solos all over the place. The title track has one of the speediest, fiery numbers on board and even boasts a rather Stratovarius styled keyboard versus guitar lead battle. Even the ballad-esque “Perfect Moment” features a stunning melodic solo, full of arpeggios and fast-paced fret maneuvering. While this is certainly a Kenziner album, I get a lot less of that old school, neoclassical vibe that was so present on the earlier albums. The more modern sound presented actually sounds a tad more like Keskinen’s Virtuocity project, but that’s definitely not a bad thing.

"A New Beginning" as always,  demonstrates a solid musicianship with only one target to hit: the creativity and the songwriting seems the main focus of those experienced players, the ambiances are hugely innovative and recalls me the great German band SUPERIOR (1996's "Behind" anyone?) with this thick and darkened feel, I think with the recording of “A New Beginning” they reached their supreme goal, it’s clearly an achievement, that it’s what I can call their most mature release ever published. This band always shows a great interest for multi vocals layers, counterpoint, keyboards soundscapes and for extreme ingredients such as growling and grunt, I always feels that it was a good idea, only low point : those vocalizing aren’t always so good and sounds a little forced, except in the song “The Seer” where the voice cocktail is perfect I think, that these kinds of screams are particularly difficult to perform in this concept, the more Gothic singing are generally better and the balance between those antagonist style is pretty well equilibrated.
The influences are ranged from every Progressive style with incursions from Pomp Rock to Thrash and even some slight extreme Modern Metal hints, from JETHRO TULL to NEVERMORE everything is set to brings you to another level of conscience and a regenerated listening experience, they succeed in their method by use each element to find a new development in their evolution, the tracking isn’t always easy to understand but after a few spin the silver platter, it will reveal itself as an essential purchase of the early 2014, very recommended for all lovers of upward clever Metal.
