Snowy Day

Birdie Brown is celebrating her 2nd birthday and has two challenges this month to celebrate. This card has been made for the 2nd challenge Anything Goes using a freebie from November called Snowy Day (which is still available, hop on over there to download this cutie)

I chose a sketch from The Critter Challenge for the layout and coloured the image with Promarkers and Flexmarkers adding some white gel pen to the snowflakes so they pop more.

The paper I have used is a wrapping paper from Paperchase which has silver metallic snowflakes on it. I thought I had used all this paper up but found a couple of small pieces left. It has been my most used ‘go to’ snowflake paper but it is a few years old now so don’t think I will be able to get any more

The sentiment is a freebie from Elegant Word Art by Bethany and I have cut it out using a Quickutz cookie cutter die and mounted on 3d foam, as is the image. The snowflakes are a Spellbinders to which I have added a couple of gemstones.

We have had so much snow in Birmingham last weekend and some of it still remains but I still never tire of Snowmen images and tis one is such a cutie, I can me using it again J

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – 6” x 4”
Images – Snowy Day by Birdie Brown
Sentiment – Freebie by WordArt by Bethany
Paper – Wrapping paper from Paperchase
Tools - Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, Spellbinders die, Quickutz cookie cutter die, white gel pen, 3d foam
Embellishments – miscellaneous gems
Techniques - Diecutting

Daisy Doodles Sammy The Snowman

As our challenges at Daisy Doodles Creative Challenges are every fortnight on the
2nd week we take the opportunity to make an extra project to showcase
some of the fabulous digis available from the store.

Jules is having a half price sale until the end of March to help pay for the vet’s bills as some horrible person shot her cat. This is a horrible thing to have happened so I do hope that you will help out and grab yourself a bargain at the same time.

This card is using the cute little image Sammy The Snowman. He is available on his own for the bargain price of only 50 cents at the sale price.

You can also opt to buy the completely chocolate free Daisy Doodles Selection Boxes, 4 images for $2 or all 12 images for $5. As with all images you get 3 different formats so you have a multitude of programs you can use them in and they are really fun images to work with.

Head over to the Daisy Doodles Store to check it out and all the other great digi’s that are available !

I am still making Christmas cards, I am so proud of how many I have made this year already and it was quite lovely today to be colouring this little snowman whilst the snowflakes were gently falling on Sunday J

I have used the latest sketch from Christmas Challenges with Sketches for the layout. The base paper is from a Craftwork Cards Goody Bag, the text paper is from a traditional Christmas paper pack and the snowflake paper is wrapping paper from Paperchase and was in my scraps box. The sentiment is recycled from an old Christmas card and the snowflake is a sticker that I have had for donkeys years.

The image is coloured with Promarkers and Flexmarkers. I drew lines on the scarf with a fine tip and added Glamour Dust glitter to the brim of his hat. Sammy is all twinkly now as any respectable snowman should be. The wrapping paper has metallic silver snowflakes on it but I have just realised that they look gold on the bottom due to the reflection from my bright yellow T-shirt. Just goes to show that not only do I use bright colours on my cards but I wear them too J

I hope you will pop over to the blog to see the lovely creations on there from my team mates and we look forward to seeing your entries in for our current Springtime Challenge which ends on Sunday 17th March

I'll see you again next time with another lovely Daisy Doodles design.

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-
Card Size – 6” x 6”
Papers – Craftwork Cards, Christmas Tidings by Papermania, wrapping paper Paperchase

It was my turn to choose and image for Choccy and myself to use and as we were deep with snow at the time I was yearning for Spring and chose the beautiful Spring Fairy from Ike’s Art. I just love the simplicity of the image and it just shouts joy to me J

I printed it out 4” square and the flowers are still very small so I was particularly happy to have fine nibs on my Promarker colours I can tell you. I love the little garlands of blooms, it very much reminded me of making long daisy chains as a child. The image is matted onto some paper from Craftwork Cards Sugar Plum Blooms pad.

The card bank is a sheet of glossy pink cardstock. I used the sketch at The Critter Challenge for the layout. The floral paper has a very subtle glitter on each bloom. The green swirly paper has been distressed with an ink pad to provide a little contrast. The 3 flowers are from the CC pad, with black gems centres and some rub on lettering for the sentiment.

Grandma's 100th Birthday

We have had a milestone birthday and a half this week as Paul’s Grandma was 100 on Monday. This is the card I made for her in celebration of this most special of birthdays.

Grandma always hates it when her birthday is on a card but I figured that if your reach 100 there is no way you are going to keep that secret is there?

The image is from Digstamps 4 Joy. In September I was very lucky to have won $10 to spend in their store from a draw of their followers on Facebook and as soon as I saw this I knew it had to go in my shopping basket in preparation for this auspicious occasion.

I selected some papers and flowers from 2 different pads by Craftwork Cards that I got in the recent sale. From this I then coloured the image in Promarkers & Flexmarkers adding lots of glitter with Stickles glue, boy was I happy that it has such a fine nozzle as some of the areas were tiny, even with the large size I printed it out.

I used a sketch from the last challenge at Wags n Whiskers for the layout, fully intending to get this posted on my blog earlier in the week but to be completely honest I was pooped out from running around after 40 oldies, serving drinks and cleaning up for over 5 hours after being at work earlier in the day. It was however completely worthwhile as Grandma had the most wonderful time and was proudly showing off her telegram from the Queen J

I added a doily which was from a magazine freebie and I punched a heart using my favourite Martha Stewart punch. The lattice got lost on the doily so I added it to some gold card and cut around it. A little bit of stickles and a green gem on the large flower and the front was finished.

I don’t normally decorate the inside but felt this occasion called for it. I used some more of the papers adding punched borders by Fiskars and Martha, another lattice heart, some layered flowers and some patterned Candi, lots of Craftwork Cards goodies on this little beauty.

Grandma absolutely loved it. She likes my cards anyway so I wanted to make this more special for her adding lots of flowers and using her favourite colours. We took lots of photos and are working on a special scrapbook style photo album for her which incorporates memorabilia from the 2 day celebration along with lots of the images.

This is the message I put together in her album so we gave it to her and then literally took it back with us. It's a standing joke that in this age of technology she doesn't get to 'hold real photos' anymore as you rarely print out digital photos.

The love Frame is from Daisy’s Digi Doodles and the extra heart is a PNG brush  from a set called Aunt Elizabeth which is a current freebie from Scrap n Fonts

Here is a photo of Grandma with the telegram from The Queen,
both ladies look bloody good for their ages!

Birdie Brown Amigurumi Bear

Birdie Brown has a challenge this month to use this fabulous image Amigurumi Bear which she has kindly given away as a freebie. As the challenge ends on the last day of the month I am cutting it a bit fine to say the least…….

I do love working with Torico’s images and have a number of freebies that I obtained from her old blog and have loved using them. I like the cute little characters and the clean lines to the images.
I coloured this little cutie with my Promarkers and Flexmarkers adding lots of texture to the fur by blending colours and adding lighter colours to the ‘fur’ until I was happy with it. I kept to a red & black colour scheme as I knew I wanted to use the paper at the bottom of the card which is a wrapping paper from Paperchase. The red is flocked so it has a lovely soft texture. Take a Tip from me and if you have a Paperchase store or concession near you have a look at their papers. You get a massive sheet which is equivalent to 8 pieces of A4 paper and they are usually only a few pounds, fabtastic value for money compared to the average paper pad costs.

I have used sketch 3 from I [Heart} Sketches at Delightful Inspiration. If you don’t already do this new weekly sketch then do yourself a favour and pop over there. If you enter you get a $1 dollar voucher which is valid for 3 months to spend in the store at From The Heart. The great thing is that you can save them up and get some of Faith’s gorgeous images for free!! This is an absolute no brainer people so get in on it J

The Spotty and heart papers came from a Me To You pad that came free with a magazine, perfect small pattern to follow the sketch but give the focus to the image and the lovely paper on the bottom. Finally I used a sentiment from my stash but just added a think white border around it so the black didn’t get lost in the paper.

So this will be my final card for January. I cannot believe we are already one month into 2013, I’ve got a feeling it’s going to quickly again this year…..

Materials Used in this card are as follows:-

Card Size – 6” Square
Papers – Flocked heart wrapping paper from Paperchase, spotty & heart Me To You freebie from magazine
Sentiment – from Stash
Tools - Letraset Promarkers & Flexmarkers, small ink pad
Techniques - Distressing
