Ken Ishii ‎– Circular Motion (Remixes) 10"

Completely random purchase I made years ago (I think I liked the packaging) by an artist I knew nothing of. It's two remixes of Ken Ishii's track "Circular Motion," an addictive track of good techno music. The remixes are vastly different. The first one, by Red Snapper, has an dub/electronic jazz/drum 'n' bass/ambient feel to it, with a far more natural and jam atmosphere that accentuates the original version's bass background. Remix no. 2 by Patrick Pulsinger is closer to techno but with a more relaxed style (floating synths and flutes) that suits a cocktail bar. 1997 10" on R & S Records.

Sonichaos Aeon - Chocolat Mexicain: An Extraordinary Tale of Heroinism cdr

The last Sonichaos Aeon release (in the liner notes there was supposed to be more coming, but it seems that this never came to fruition) has nothing to do with metal anymore (even with metal in Sonichaos Aeon's twisted sense). There's a cinematic-noir-style intro with a guy talking over Salah Ragab's "Ramadan In Space Time," giving the notion that there is a concept behind related to drugs, followed by two tracks of hard-hitting Detroit-style techno with elements of trance, which are more accomplished than their earlier electronic tracks. The final track is a surprising club techno cover of Manowar's "Fighting The World," that needs to be heard to be believed. 2006 self-released cdr.

Front Line Assembly ‎– Implode cd

Front Line Assembly is one of the very few industrial/ebm groups I like, along with Skinny Puppy and some Front 242. I think that this sound, which was supposed to be the most modern in its heyday, is completely outdated now, in contrast to noise, drone etc. Anyway, this album came a few years after their classic Millenium, in which they heavily sampled metal bands, and is not close to the industrial metal sound of that album. There are a few anthemic electronic tracks, especially the first three ones and "Don't Trust Anyone," but quite a few instrumental tracks have a slightly more ambient sound that would fit very well in game soundtracks or would be good for driving at night. 1999 cd on Metropolis.
