Seize the Birthday

 

Another cold and rainy day with temps going into the 20's tonight! Yuck! Sure glad I have my craft room to bring some cheer to this gloomy day. I created a card for the new Seize the Birthday challenge which asks us to "Layer It". I used 3 layering stencils for the candle background, then pieced together a layered cake. To add more dimension to the sentiment, I adhered 2 layers of card stock together.

Seize the Birthday

 

There's a fun new Tic Tac Toe challenge over on the Seize the Birthday blog! I chose the first vertical column with stripes, watercolor and slim line options. I had some leftover scraps of water coloring so I went with a pink swatch and cut several of the cake layers from it. I'm also entering this into the Just Us Girls challenge where it's stenciling week.

The background was stenciled using the Circle Dots stencil by Simon Says Stamp.

Poppin' Cake

I'm playing along with two challenges. The Seize the Birthday challenge has a topping to "make it pop" so what better way than to use bright red and aqua?!  I'm also entering this into The Color Hues challenge to use aqua and red. In hind sight, I should have layered the cake over white as it gets "lost" in the numbers of the patterned paper. But...I'm moving on and not doing it over. Life is too short - haha! 

I cut out the cake dies from Pure Poppy, Aqua Sky and a metallic silver from my scrap pile. Patterned papers are from Surprise! 6x6 pad by Bo Bunny and Cool Collab 6x6 pad by My Favorite Things.

Color Throwdown #742

 

Hi crafty friends! It's Wednesday which means a new Color Throwdown challenge is happening. Kelly is hosting this week and has a fun color palette of orange, aqua, lilac and black. I decided to used these layering stencils from Pretty Pink Posh and add this fun Party Cake die set.

Color Throwdown #731

Hey crafty friends! It's time for a new Color Throwdown challenge and Amy Rysavy is hosting with the colors of pale yellow, aqua, navy and pink. I've been stamping for MANY years so have quite a large inventory. I wanted to use something I haven't used in awhile, so went with these fun dies from Pretty Pink Posh.

I started by stenciling a background using Papertrey Ink's Playful Dots stencil with Lovely Lady, Lemon Tart, Aqua Mist and Enchanted Evening dye inks. I then die cut the cake out of the four card stock colors to match the inks, then arranged the cake into what I thought was a pleasing mix of the colors.

I added some Clear Star gellyroll pen highlights to the candle flames and embellished the card with some moonshine sequins (PTI).

Birthday Candles

Good Friday crafty friends! Another cold and terribly windy day here in VA which led me to my craft room instead of running errands! Who needs groceries anyway?! 😂

I fell in love with these layered candle stencils from Pretty Pink Posh after being enabled by a Jennifer McGuire video you can see HERE. I also ordered the fun cake die from PPP which coordinates so well with the background! Birthday cards are probably the category I create for the most and I am always looking for unique and relatively easy to use products.

I color blended the candles in a diagonal rainbow pattern of colors using all distress inks. I added a touch of orange with a Copic marker to the base of the flames then covered the entire flame with Crystal Stickles for some sparkle and shine. I love the Mashup Birthday sentiment set from Papertrey Ink so mixed that into the design - popping it with foam tape for added dimension. This completes another birthday card for the long list of friends and family I know that were born in April!
