Multi coloured sunrise

The sun isn't even awake yet

I refer to this spot jokingly as my office. It's Queens Promenade, Ramsey, Isle of Man where I do most of my beach photography. My most licensed sunrise photos have been across this beach, hence my office." No two days are the same and the strangest colours are often before the sun rises. Throw a stick any morning and you're bound to hit a local photographer capturing this scene. And why not. My nest step will be to paint it. I used to be an artist, and got sidetracked by photography, but scenes like this, call for a paintbrush. Mother nature's natural paint palette, knows best

Things you find washed up on a beach

Anyone missing a bicycle wheel?

Long time followers know I have a thing about people dumping their rubbish in public places. I have photographed everything from supermarket trolleys, to sofas dumped in the woods. Not good people, hire a skip, give to a charity shop, recycle in the community, ebay it whatever, but do not dump it! Lecture over. On the other hand the beach is different, it tends to get washed up there. Really odd stuff too.

I have an entire collection of "washed up from the UK" photos. Not pretty, stunning, drop dead gorgeous sunsets or to die for landscapes. No, natural one shot, images of the rubbish that finds its way from the UK. Today I show you a bicycle wheel. What happened to the rest of bike who knows, washed up in Douglas or Laxey possibly. Anyway, I like to keep it real on this blog, the good, the bad and the ugly. Who knows what else I will find on the beach next, but I'll be sure to show you, like it or not, life isn't all photoshopped sunsets!

Skywatch # 89 Blue sky sinking!

Touch of the blues

I'll keep it short and sweet. If you look closely, you can see a touch of lush, blue sky captured reflecting the light beautifully in a arty farty way. Definitely not one of the glorious sunsets, or sunrises I've posted, but a blurry swirly, upside down world of sky, caught in a puddle of dirty water. Anything can be a thing of beauty photographed a certain way. Or an arty farty blur. It was this or rugby again. Haha.

Good to be back.

See here for others around the world.

Artist captures artist - My world

Murial it's a mural

My World

It has finally stopped raining, but I did say I would be treating you to some point and shoot camera work rather than the fancy footwork of the big almighty bow down to the power of the Nikon images. So I had better stick to my guns (camera ones, obvioulsy) hadn't I. So my world this week is photographing the artist at work.

You may recall this place from way back last year. on Parliament Street. At the time it was an empty space made way by the demolition of a building with hoarding around which the the school kids had painted on see here for that shot. Rumours abounded as to what this plot was to be, a hotel to replace the grand, a restaurant, a picnic garden. Well it has been turfed over(grass to you) and there are benches. Always full at lunchtime and seems to be a regular meeting place now. One thing having the little point and shoot is you can whip the thing out slyly, take a pic, and pop back in the handbag before anyone is aware. Here is the artist at work on whatever that mural will turn 0ut to be. Luck would have it I was this way, and got to snap the ongoing job at work. Of course I will bring you the finished article, well I will if I can sneak another incognito pic.

More works of my world art can be found here

Taking some time out to concentrate on a couple of little projects and catch up with friends. Let's just say one involves a camera and self portraits and the other the past and hunting for photos. Both involve my time, and my alcohol.

Here, chair and everyhwere. Not anymore.

This it not my artistic statement just a load of rubbish

Long, long, ago we had the tale( should I say one of my more ferocious rants) about this pile of crap you see above. You all read the hullabaloo of me happening upon this unwanted chair and kids trolley just dumped in the nature reserve. You also read my pleas for idiot scum( they are not human beings) to not chuck out their unwanted furnishing but maybe pass onto charity, and certainly not dump it in a rural area. You also read and have re read by pleas to our Government here to clean up the area and remove all the garbage that gets dumped in what should be an area for wildlife, not the local wildlife's trash. So do I have to ask again....

..... No! I walked through there today(without the camera oops) and couldn't believe my eyes. Finally the chair has been removed. Don't know where, don't know when, hope we won't meet again don't know how, just know it has vanished without a trace in a lot longer than 60 seconds. About time too. Also good to see that there is some general maintenance going on and some tree planting. I know some of you assumed it was my Tracey Emin style art project but no it was a pile of crap( I never said what you are thinking, but I just might agree) and if it was, I could have earned a fortune by those who can't distinguish art from garbage. All I know is sofa so good. So long.

Do you get this in your area?

WALK BY THE WATER LILIES - MY WORLD

Monet by Babooshka. Ha! Ha!

My World

Water lilies! I do hope Monet won't be turning in his grave too much at this homage. A sure sign Spring has sprung, even though we has our first snow this week. This is another hidden treasure. It's the little pond I pass in the Nature Reserve. It's been while since I've shown you the river or the reserve purely as it's been winter and it's a little too muddy to be traipsing about It is another little secluded haven for local wildlife. Ducks, dragonflies, frogs, butterflies bees, hoverflies long tailed tits(pretty pink birds) can all be found here come Spring. Bullrushes as you can see by the bucket load and those gorgeous water lilies nestling in the centre. I didn't do a close up of the lilies today so I could show you the pond in full and that's what made me go for the style of image. So much green, the slither of purple bloom and the blush of white lilies had to be a (click) Monet style image. Basking under bright sunlight filtering through leaving the top corner nicely shaded no alterations necessary, mother nature was very helpful today. This is my little bit of France in Ramsey and you know how much I love France. Open to job offers - anything considered. I'm not joking you know Gary and I need to be in France. On the other hand would you like to hear a joke......

.......A Parisian burglar nearly got away with stealing several Impressionist paintings from the Louvre. However, after planning the crime, getting in and out past heavy security, he was captured only two blocks away, when his getaway vehicle ran out of petrol. When asked how he could mastermind such a daring crime, and then make such an obvious error, he replied,

"I had no Monet to buy Degas to make the Van
Gogh."

You can all blame Gary for that artist's joke who is creating a of Manx illustrations for a commission as I type. All I can say for now. Hush Hush.

Klaus, Imac, Fishing Guy, Ivar, Tom, Louise, Wren, Sandy and others are to thank for the My World neme. Click here for more my world's just for fun again of course.

COOL FOR CATS - ABC

Seeing Double

ABC this week is brought to you by the letter C

Romeo and Juliet as this couple will be known as were so very obliging. Normally there is only one black cat in this drive near the harbour docks but today we have two. Romeo it seems has found a lady friend in the fair Juliet.

cool
cute
cats
coyly
conversing

Of course chatting and concrete are other c words, but how many more do you see. Actually several more, not so obvious and of course many creative subjective ones. Let you ponder that conundrum

The Ramsey Romance of Romeo and Juliet will continue I'm sure while the camera is elsewhere. Wonder if his kittenish charms will works on the fickle female. Who knows. What would you name them? No you can't have Cleocatra!

Remember  or have you heard of these saying?
A cat may look at a king.
Curiosity killed the cat.

The curious can click here to ABC with Mrs nesbitt

MONOCHROME ODD SHOTS - LOOKING GLASS

Bresson-esque by Babooshka

Reflections of Ramsey

Last week we had a trip around the two beaches of Ramsey. This week I am purely indulging myself with for me pure photography reflections. As it is Monochrome Odd shots I used this one to start the theme, "Looking Glass." It's Mooragh Lake with the park. I was standing one side taking upside down reflections, a particular speciality when I spied the couple of walkers. I purposely waiting for them to walk into the frame.  I have often tried to convey that photographers are born not made and you either think photography or you don't. I saw in my mind's eye how the image would look and waited for the walkers to arrive into my image naturally. Not serendipity, not stage managed, but a natural image nonetheless.

(Photography, what is it?)

This week I am going to use one camera, the reasonably priced Nikon D50, wide angled lens on various setting, times, weather conditions. All images will be pure. No cropping, colour balance, contrast, brighten sharpening. The ugly and the beautiful will stay within the image. The common links will be around Ramsey and all reflections of one kind or another. One camera, one lens, one photographer. Ramsey is a very normal looking town as I have shown you. I intend to make it look surreal in a natural way. Twin Peaks, Alice In Wonderland anyone. You may or may not like these images. They may not be easy on the eye, or may be too easy. For me photography is using my eye, my brain, my natural ability. I think when we employ other techniques ie photoshop then it should be classed as photo art,a new genre perhaps. We really do need to make the distinction to safegaurd both photographers and artists. I am a photographer and I take photographs. I am a dying breed, please don't make my partner or I the artist extinct.

Aileni will see to your Monochrome needs
Katney will see to your Odd shots.

To know me as a photographer, go google one word Bresson.
