Monkey See Monkey Do Monday: Clownfish

This week for MSMD Monday, I chose as clownfish design. I found this tutorial from Juliatmll on Pinterest and decided to try it since it was so dang cute! Also, since I was already wearing Zoya Arizona I didn't have to repaint my nails. I used Icing Chic Chic Horray and L.A. Colors Circuits with a small paint brush and a dotting tool.

I clearly didn't do this manicure just, but I still thought it was pretty cute :) If I were to attempt this manicure again, here's what I'd do differently:
1.) Use a more opaque white. Chic Chic Horray is my favorite white base coat, but going over the clownfish strips twice wasn't ideal.
2.) Dip my paint brush directly into the polish bottle instead of putting a blob on a palette.
3.) If I do put it on a palette, I'd probably add some polish thinner so the polish would apply a little smoother.
4.) Make his face bigger on the accent nail.
Even though I don't really consider this mani a success, I still really like the pattern. It's really out of the ordinary :)

Teal Tuesday: Animal Print

Whenever animal print was announced as the winner for today's Teal Tuesday theme, I got a really great idea that I was excited about...and then promptly forgot it haha. Luckily, I eventually remembered it :) This mani was inspired by one of my favorite pairs of earrings.

It's a peacock! While teal isn't really the main color here, the teal-ish color on the earring inspired me, so that totally counts...right? Sorry about the black specks. It was really late and I didn't get the chance to clean up.

Colors used: Zoya Apple, L.A. Colors Circuits, OPI Brisbane Bronze, OPI Fly, Ulta Dance Teal Dawn, Julep Marisa. The teal spot is Fly for the opacity+Dance Teal Dawn for some shimmer. I drew the designs with some different sized paint brushes.

I was having difficulties taking pictures of this because it was so shiny. I decided to add a coat of NYC Matte topcoat. It also kinda makes the effect similar to the earring.

I am head over heals for this mani! I love it a lot and don't want to take it off!

31 Day Challenge: Day 13-Animal Print

For today's challenge, I wanted to think outside of the box and do an animal print I hadn't seen done before. Since it's the State Reptile of Texas, I chose the horny toad. I looked up horny toads on Wikipedia and apparently they aren't toads or frogs at all. They're actually lizards (which makes sense because they're the state reptile...not amphibian). The ones that live in my area are Texas Horned Lizards, which is good because they're the cutest. Take a look.

Adorable, right? You might not think so, but I really like lizards. Especially small ones. I started with 2 coats of China Glaze Trendsetter and then stamped with Color Club and BM 215.

It's too dark and green to match a horny toad, but I still like this manicure a lot more than I thought I would. Especially since I really hated Trendsetter when I got it. But for $1.35, I can't really complain.
