King's day ... a colourful day

King's day
(his birthday, and he's 50 now)
is also orange day !
(because of his Family name)

The King and his family partied in Tilburg,
and it was sunny there most of the time.
(they also have a wonderful Textile Museum in Tilburg !
the dress Queen Maxima was wearing (by Jan Taminiau)
will be there from tomorrow ! )

So an ORANGE day :

an orange streamer (not ours)  and some orange leftover of birthday flowers

the orange lid of the new plastic waste container and an orange crochet flower.

Because the grandchildren are not here
there is no need for us to go anywhere,
so we had a quiet day,
not very warm, a bit of rain, a bit of sun.
But it was a colourful day !!!

This is what I have been doing lately
(after the little monkeys were finished !)
They will be key rings soon
and we'll take them to the market
on the 2nd day of Pentecost  (June 5) in Ouwerkerk.

What else can you do
when you have soooo many colours to choose from !!!

Endless possibilities !!!

Textile Biennale in Rjswijk

Today I was with my UK friend Jane on tour again.
Like we did to Leiden some weeks ago,
we went by public transportation
(for me bike, boat, bike, train, bus)

(though it's not a specific textile museum like the one in Tilburg)
"does in textile" a lot : f.i. the retrospective exhibition of Leslie Gabrielse
was there some eight years ago,
and I think this is the fourth Textile Biennale that they're organizing.

I already read about it in my favourite textile magazine TextielPlus
(... sorry .... only in Dutch !)

One of the rooms.

Chiachio & Giannone (ARG)

(flowers ?)
Mai Tabakian (FR)

Caroline Bartlett (UK)
A beautiful installation with delicate embroidery
with embedded imprints of textile in porcelain

(detail ... pojagi-like)
Debra M Smith (USA)

(the front of the flyer)
Monica Bohlmann (DE)

Ane Henriksen (DK)

Amanda McCavour (CA)

(combination of paint and stitch)
Pauline Nijenhuis (NL)

(weird animals)
Henrique v an Putten (NL)

(thousands of pins (numdered !) ... and thread)
Katie Lewis (USA)

(a weird installation : all the original furniture of this room
embedded in folded cloths !)
Derick Melander (USA)

(very, very fine crochet and embroidery)
Ying Chew (AUS)

Not all of it,
but things I liked
Oh my, there are so many different way to make textile ART !
.....

If you have the opportunity :

GO  VISIT  THIS  EXHIBITION

it's more than worth the trip !
It lasts till September 27

(Thanks again for the lovely day Jane !)

another week

Sometimes, time goes by so quickly it seems,
that it's hard to keep track
of all the things
you did
.....

There was this lovely day on Tuesday
when I went to the Boijmans Museum in Rotterdam,
with my dear friend M.
as my birthday present
;-)

Craftsmanship and artists through time

Oooooh ... so many beautiful items.
GO THERE
if you can !
*
The garden is beginning to look blue again
with the sunshine we have
(from time to time)

*
I started some flower petals
for my Boro jacket
(on the machine !)

... so not every piece of fabric I use is blue ...
...

And of course I have been stitching tiny stitches

.....

that was the week that was

sunny autumn day

Because the two bigger grandchildren
have autumn break this week
we went on the bike and by boat
to the museum (de Kunsthal) in Rotterdam
(yes ! 7 paintings were stolen last week from this museum :
what a lousy way to celebrate your 25 anniversary !!!)

We had such a fun day :
looking at paintings (Avant Gardes)
and sculptures ( a lot of naked women by Maillol)
modeling with clay
making a viewing box
walking on a treadmill (with music and a painting in front of you)
and having a drink and some sweet pie
on a bench at the river
in the warm sunshine

(a fun painting ... ha, could have been by Kaffe Fassett ...)

And home again
(near our beloved windmills)

...
I found a very thick envelope on the doormat
containing my next felting exchange piece of Joke

sunny !
