The Cure – Disintegration (1989): crónica de un corazón que se deshace lentamente.

Hay discos que no se escuchan: se habitan. Disintegration es uno de ellos. No entra de golpe, no busca el impacto inmediato ni la concesión fácil. Se desliza despacio, como una noche larga que sabes que va a recordarte cosas que preferirías tener dormidas. Cuando Robert Smith decidió llamarlo así, no estaba pensando solo en un proceso químico, sino en uno emocional: la lenta y dolorosa descomposición de los afectos, del tiempo, de la juventud y de la certeza de que nada permanece intacto.

Publicado en 1989, Disintegration llegó en un momento crucial para The Cure. Tras el éxito más luminoso y accesible de Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Kiss Me, Smith sintió la necesidad casi física de volver a la penumbra. Cumplía treinta años y esa cifra le pesaba como una losa. Le aterraba la idea de convertirse en una caricatura pop de sí mismo. Así nació este álbum: como una reacción visceral, honesta y profundamente humana contra la superficialidad, incluso contra la suya propia.
