 A few words "WORTH TO BE READ" from PAUL KATNER for my FAVORITE BAND.

We were very much a creature of our times." That's one way Paul Kantner explains the Jefferson Airplane, the group that he and Marty BaIln forged together two bng, strange decades ago. Well, yes, they were. And all of us who were alive-really alive-back then, were creatures in arms. But somehow, the Airplane were more monsters than creatures. They scared authorities and made things happen. They pushed boundaries and helped define the times. The times, of course, were the most cataclysmic decade in the history of this country, a decade that got going around 1965 and ended anywhere from 1969 ...nil to 1974 Ilkrtergatel. The Sidles was a decade of which It can truly be said: You had to be there. As Robin Williams put it: if you can remember the Sixties, you weren't really 

Try and conjure up that decade, and all you come up with is a laundry list of cliches, having to do with tie-dyes, Gods' eyes, Day-Glo and posters and light shows; patchouli and incense, with the language of those days, those incredible, far-out, psychedelic, flower powered days. The times saw the escalation of civil tights activists' war on segregation, and of the United States' war on North Vietnam. In music, folk singers, Bob Dylan chief among them, led musical protests.. the flip side, There were the carefree Beatles.

 in the fall of 1965, were about to get high for the first time, courtesy of some marijuana provided by one Bob Wan. Around the time of that momentous pot party in New York, a band was making its public debut in San Francisco:Jefferson Airplane, named after. mythical blues artist ("Blind Thomas Jefferson Airplane") and influ-enced by the Beatles, Bob Dylan, and marijuana. As such, the Airplane were no different from many of the people around them, especially a growing commu-nity of students, dropouts, artists, pacifists, post-Beat bohemians and other adrenturists who lived or hung out in a low-rent, Victorian-housed neighborhood called the HaightAshbury.

JEFFERSON AIRPLANE 
Η αρχή της ιστορίας ειναι καπως περίεργη. 

Ο νεαρός Martyn Jerel Buchwald ή αλλιώς Martyn Balin , σχεδιαστής και ζωγράφος ,μέλος του συγκροτήματος φόλκ Town Criers, βλέπει στο σόου του Ed Sullivan τους Beatles,ετος 1964 λίγο πριν την γέννηση της σκηνής της Δυτικής Ακτής και του αφθονου lsd, πετάγεται απο το καθισμά του και φωνάζει , απο τωρα θα παίζω μόνο rock & roll !! 
Φεύγει άμεσα για Σαν Φραντζίσκο ,φιάχνει ενα γκρουπ και παίζει για τα kαθημερινά τους εξοδα στο Drinking Club. 
Εκει γνωρίζει τον Paul Kantner φίλο του D.Crosby και του D.Freiberg frontman των μετέπειτα (QSMS).
Ο Kantner εχει μόνιμη παρέα ενα ψηλό μανιακό κιθαρίστα που εχει παίξειμερικές φορές με την Janis Joplin, το όνομα αυτού Jorma Kaukonen.Η συνέχεια ειναι γνωστή,αυτός φωνάζει τον φίλο του Jack Cassady και με drummer τον Skip Spence!! ναι τον μεγάλο αυτο κιθαρίστα,και την Signe Tone Anderson στα φωνητικά γεννιούνται οι πρώτοι Airplane.
Μετα τον πρώτο δίσκο ο Skip φεύγει να φιάξει τούς Moby Grape και την θέση του παίρνει ο πολυ καλός τζαζίστας Spencer Dryden ,στο μεταξύ η Anderson περιμένει παιδί και φεύγει. 
Ειναι η ωρα της Grace Slic...

The beginning of the story is a little weird. 

Young man Martyn Jerel Buchwald -aka- Martyn Balin a designer and a painter ,member of the folk group "Town Criers" as he is watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show on 1964 -a short while before the West Coast music scene explosion - he jumps off his chair saying, from now on i will only play rock & roll. He leaves for San Franscisco, he forms a band and plays every night for his living at the Drinking Club.
There, he meets Paul Kantner, a friend of D.Crosby and D.Freiberg the later frontman of Quick Silver Messenger Service.
Kantner is accompanied by a very tall guitar-maniac who had played a few times with Janis Joplin, his name, Jorma Kaukonen. 
The rest of the history is known, he calls his friend Jack Cassady and with Skip Spence on drums!! Yes, this magnificent guitarist , and Signe Tone Anderson on vocals the first line up of Jefferson Airplane is born.
After their first recording, Skip leaves to form Moby Grape and his place is taken by the very good jazz-man Spencer Dryden, meanwhile Anderson is pregnant and leaves the group. 
It's Grace Slick's time !!
