Keith Richards once said that Mitch Ryder was "one of the most exciting singers to ever emerge on the music scene."

Mitch Ryder's 2023 album "Georgia Drift" is, as the title suggests, inspired by Southern Soul, so more earthy and laid back than his earlier albums. Ryder himself, who moved his center of life from Michigan in the north to Georgia, in the deepest south of the U.S., some time ago, calls the album "a reflection of my musical direction since my move." 

And so "Georgia Drift" features wonderful songs influenced by gospel and blues.

Their final concert is LAST WALTZ  Concert on 25-11-1976 with Paul Butterfield, Eric Clapton, Neil Diamond, Bob Dylan, Emmylou Harris, Ronnie Hawkins, Dr. John, Joni Mitchell, Van Morrison, Ringo Starr, Muddy Waters, Ronnie Wood and Neil Young. The event is filmed by director Martin Scorsese released in 1978.

The first and perhaps their best album.

A proper sequel of HOT RATS was never released.  It's only been recently revealed, however, that one was recorded...more or less.  Funky Nothingness, new on 3 CDs or 2 LPs from Zappa Records and UMe (and No. 124 in the Zappa Official Release Series, for those keeping count), draws on (mostly) previously unreleased sessions captured at Los Angeles' Record Plant in March 1970 with multi-instrumentalist Ian Underwood, violinist Don "Sugarcane" Harris, Wrecking Crew/L.A. Express bassist Max Bennett, and in his first sessions with Zappa, drummer Aynsley Dunbar.  The result is a compelling listen from start to finish, continuing in the vein of Hot Rats while anticipating - and providing material for -Chunga's Revenge and, to a lesser extent, Apostrophe (').

Funky Nothingness preserves a number of "Tommy and Vincent" jams between Zappa and Dunbar, skillfully playing off one another with an intuitive connection and matching high energy.  The first two jams were mixed by FZ in 1970; the third, newly-mixed one is the full, unedited, 22-minute master on which Zappa starts off on bass and moves to guitar. both of them would joke about how they felt 18 again, hence their decision for the album title.

It's an extraordinary honour to play and write music with Jeff, one of the true greats and someone I am now privileged enough to call my brother." In September 2019, Depp joined Beck on stage for some concerts of the latter's US tour and they performed the song "Isolation" live for the first time.

Back in the '70s, a group of rock & roll carousers called themselves the Hollywood Vampires as they crawled the bars of Los Angeles during the dead of night. Alice Cooper was at the forefront, joined by Harry Nilsson, John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Keith Moon, and Micky Dolenz -- a crew so soused that their tales became legend, even if the specifics of the debauchery were often forgotten. Forty years later, Alice Cooper revived the name Hollywood Vampires when he formed a classic rock supergroup with Joe Perry and Johnny Depp. In the spirit of the original Hollywood Vampires, a bunch of other stars were invited to play on the group's eponymous 2015 album; it boasted cameos from Paul McCartney, Dave Grohl, Slash, Joe Walsh, Perry Farrell, AC/DC's Brian Johnson, the Doors' Robby Krieger, and Winger's Kip Winger. Hollywood Vampires peaked in the Top 50 on the Billboard 200 and was supported by a tour. When it came time to play live gigs in support of the record, Cooper, Perry, and Depp brought in the Guns N' Roses rhythm section of bassist Duff McKagan and drummer Matt Sorum, adding Cooper's bandmember, Tommy Henriksen, as a third guitarist.

With their latest release, the band has remastered one of their compilations entitled Cult Classic, where they re-recorded many of their classic hits. Everything from “Godzilla” to “Burnin' For You” to “Don’t Fear the Reaper” are among the collection of tracks on this record. The benefit of modern production on these tracks really enhance songs like “Godzilla” and especially the freakout-solo section of “Don't Fear the Reaper.” Blue Öyster Cult have always been known to create an atmosphere with their music, and the production on this reissue helps to engulf the listener in that sound space.

John Marshall, a titan of the British jazz scene for the last 55 years has left the building.

John Stanley Marshall (28 August 1941 – 16 September 2023) was an English drummer and founding member of the jazz rock band Nucleus.[4] From 1972 to 1978, he was the drummer for Soft Machine, replacing Phil Howard when he joined.

He was at home in South London with his lovely wife of 54 years Maxi.

Biography

Marshall was born in Isleworth, Middlesex on 28 August 1941 and worked with various jazz and rock bands and musicians, among them J. J. Jackson, Allan Holdsworth, Barney Kessel, Alexis Korner, Graham Collier, Michael Gibbs, Arthur Brown, Keith Tippett, Centipede, Jack Bruce, John McLaughlin, Dick Morrissey, Hugh Hopper, Elton Dean, John Surman, Charlie Mariano, John Abercrombie, Arild Andersen, and Eberhard Weber's Colours.

Tempest was a British progressive rock band active from 1973 and 1974. Its core members were Jon Hiseman on drums and Mark Clarke on bass. They released two studio albums before breaking up.

Hiseman and Clarke had played in Colosseum together and formed Tempest in the beginning of 1973. For the band's first, eponymous album (originally called Jon Hiseman's Tempest), the line up was completed by Allan Holdsworth on guitar and Paul Williams on vocals and keyboards.
