Clipboard

Hi and welcome to Freshly Made Sketches weekly challenge. This week our sketch hostess is Jen Mitchell and I love her sketch!

Now, I think this might also apply to a lot of card-makers but I absolutely cannot resist stationery supplies and/or miniatures so when I saw this miniature clipboard in a Tim Holtz vault die set, I had to have it!  I decided to make a teacher card for my daughter who is in her first year of teaching high school boys (brave, brave girl!).  Of course, for her the sentiment should read "Energy Drink, Teach, Sleep, Repeat" 😄

I did some background stamping and inked up the edges of the panels to give everything a vintage-y look.  The little clipboard is so adorable and the top "clip" is popped up on two layers of foam tape to give it a realistic look.  The notebook paper was stamped in a pale blue ink, then I went over the vertical line with a pink Sharpie for realism.

And, by total luck, the stamped sentiment fits perfectly on the lines of the notebook!

Thanks for visiting.  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

Letter For You

Hi and welcome!  Our challenge hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches is Amy O'Neill and she has a fun sketch for us to play with.  I went with an envelope instead of the banner shape in the sketch but I think it still works.

Onto a Grout Gray card panel that I'd cut with a postage edge die I used embossing paste to stencil a text-y pattern.  I thought I was using white embossing paste but this looks more translucent so maybe I grabbed the wrong jar.

While that was drying, I die-cut lots of flowers and foliage in new Spellbinders colours as well as the sentiment and a white envelope.  I arranged the elements into a pleasing patter and adhered it to the stenciled panel with foam tape.

I didn't add any other embellishments, leaving it somewhat clean.

Thanks for visiting.  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

Leafy Cluster

Hi and welcome!  Today's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches is from Narelle Farrugia and it played right into my current fondness of stenciling/vintage-looking cards.

Because the purpose of Freshly Made Sketches is clean cards, I didn't distress any elements but tried to give a vintage-y look with ink-blending and stamping onto Desert Storm cardstock.  The foliage is a stamp, die and stencil combo from Simon Says Stamp that I bought in the Black Friday sales but hadn't used until now.  It was quick and easy to put together.

The hot-foiled sentiment was from my already-foiled stash which seems to be my go-to lately when I'm in a time crunch with my card-making (all the time, it seems!)

Thanks for visiting.  Please head over to the challenge blog and check out the wonderful new cards made by our design team - and meet our new team member!

Bird Birthday

Hi!  It's time for another Tic-Tac-Toe Challenge and this time I went down the right vertical column with Patterned Paper-Birds or Chicks-Stencil to come up with this birthday card.

The card base is stenciled with a cloud stencil before adding a couple of pieces of patterned paper.  The images were stamped, Copic-coloured and die-cut.  I added them with foam tape.  Finally I stamped a birthday sentiment.

Thanks so much for visiting!

Copper Bricks

Hi and welcome!  I'm here with my card for the latest Freshly Made Sketches challenge where Cecile Ribon is our hostess.  I was absent last week but back with this card:

Time was again short so I had to to something quick.  Washi tape foliage and a stenciled background made this card pretty easy to put together.  The stenciling was done with Lunar Paste and it has a lovely sheen to it which you can see in the second photo.

The sentiment was put in the wrong place (doh!) because I wasn't paying attention so I hope Cecile will forgive me 😁

Thanks for visiting!  The design team have some fabulous cards so I hope you'll check them out.

Products Used:

Sunflowers

Hi and welcome!  I've been absent from the blog for a bit because I've been busy packing up my daughter's house as it has been sold.  She has already moved to a new city for her job, so it fell mostly to myself and my husband to pack up her house.  Fun times!

Anyway, as I'm filling in at The Flower Challenge, it's time for our reminder post and the challenge this month is to add circles with your flowers.  I went the easy route with washi tape to come up with this card:

I die-cut the trio shaker circle die into a panel of Grout Gray cardstock that I'd embossed with the Subtle embossing folder.  I then added the frame to each circle and adhered some sunflower washi tape.  I stamped the sentiment onto a white panel and added that.

The whole panel was then popped up with foam tape on a white card base so the white peeks through the circles.

Thanks for visiting!  Please check out the fabulous cards by the rest of the design team and don't forget we have some prizes this month!

Products used:

Stamps:  Sunflowers (Pink Fresh Studio)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Cardstock:  White, Grout Gray (MFT)

Except Young Again...

Hi and welcome!  Linda Callahan is our sketch hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches and, knowing her as I do, I think she'll get a laugh out of the sentiment on my card.

Now, before I start, yes my card is flipped and the reason is solely because I must have turned my die-cut panel upside down before working on the rest my card.  Doh!

To make my card, I took a panel of freebie patterned paper and adhered it to a white card base.  I then took a word window die and die-cut three openings to (originally) match the sketch out of a panel of Coral Crush cardstock.  I then lined up the sentiment stamps with the openings and stamped them onto the patterned paper.

I wanted to add some drama so added slim strips of black to peek out from each opening.  I then spattered on some white ink and some gold ink before adhering the panels together.  In hindsight, I sort of wish I didn't do the spattering, but too late now. Finally I finished with some enamel dots and a heart.  I like the serious look of the sentiment and then there's the last line...

Thanks for visiting.  Please check out the wonderful cards made by the rest of the design team.

Mini Card

Hi and welcome to this week's challenge from the team at Freshly Made Sketches, where our hostess this week is Jen Mitchell.  I love Jen's sketch - so wide open!  I only had a small window of time to make my card as my daughter unexpectedly came to visit for the weekend and, naturally enough, card-making took a back seat.  But here is what I pulled together and thankfully a lot of it was pre-stamped/pre-made.

The pre-made bits on this card were the flowers, leaves and the envelope and insert.  So all I really had to do was stencil the background and die-cut the curved panel which came from a sample pack of Core'dinations cardstock from a recent stamp order.

I'm not sure what colours I used for the flowers as I ink-blended these while I was away from home for 2 weeks last year and didn't keep a record of the colours used.  They will be Altenew inks though.  The stencil is from Stamperia and I wanted to keep with the letter theme and thought this worked quite well.

Thanks so much for visiting.  The design team have some fabulous cards so I hope you'll check them out.

Products used:

Stamps:  Mini Messages & More (MFT)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black and various Altenew inks
Cardstock:  White, red (likely MFT), Core'dinations sample pack

Accessories:  Shabby Rose Stencil (Stamperia), white embossing paste

All You Need

I'm back for another year with the Tic-Tac-Toe team and for today's card, I went down the centre with Designer Paper - Red - Free to come up with this card.

The designer paper is from an unknown company as it was a freebie with an order I placed.  I die-cut it with a scallop die and adhered it to a white card base.  I then added some red ribbon and topped that with a stitched ric-rac die-cut.  I then set about finding a sentiment and though this one fit nicely.  I also die-cut some music notes and added them to the card.

Thanks so much for visiting.  I hope you'll head over to the challenge blog and give it a go.

Products used:

Stamps:  All You Need is Love (Taylored Expressions)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black
Cardstock:  White, Rouge (Altenew), unknown patterned paper

Purple Anenome

Hi and welcome!  I am the sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches and I added a few more layers than I usually do to my sketch.

I got a whole lot of Honey Bee Stamps products during the Black Friday sales and I have been trying to work through them over the small amounts of time I've had to create lately.  This anenome flower was made using white cardstock and Altenew inks.  Once it was put together (minus the centre) I spattered it with gold colour shine and white acrylic paint.  I then spattered the centre elements with Black Soot ink before assembling.

The card base was stenciled with white embossing paste (got a thing for stenciling at the moment!) and then I chose some pattered paper and copper foil to add the layers.

I finished with a copper hot foiled sentiment.  Thanks for visiting.  Head on over and see how the rest of the team interpreted my sketch and I hope you'll have a go yourself.

Products used:

Ink:  Wisteria, Hydrangea, Ultraviolet, Andromeda, Yellow Ochre, Olive, Moss (Altenew), Black Soot Distress Ink

Dies:  Lovely Layers: Anenome (Honey Bee Stamps), Hexi-Gem Sentiments (Spellbinders)
Accessories:  Copper hot foil, Shabby Rose Stencil (Stamperia), White Embossing Paste, White Acrylic Spray, Gold Color Shine

Big Birthday Wishes

Hi and welcome!  Today (24 December) is my husband's birthday so this morning I thought I'd better get cracking and make him a card!  I bought the MFT food truck kit specifically for him, so I didn't have to think too hard to decide what to use.

I put together the burger, hot dog and taco then had to think about how I wanted to lay them out on the card.  I decided a grid card was a good option so die-cut the gift card cover-up and ink-blended Salvaged Patina ink on the bottom of three of the panels, fading out to white.  On the fourth panel, I stamped the sentiment from Mini Messages and More.  I then adhered the sentiment panel and the food with foam tape.

Thanks for visiting.  A lot of challenges are having a break at the moment, but Krafty Chicks have a CAS challenge and The Male Room is Anything Goes so I'm going to add this card to their galleries.

Products used:

Stamps:  Mini Messages & More (MFT)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black, Sand Dunes, Rocky Shore, Espresso, Honey Drizzle, Heart Beat, Lettuce Celebrate (Altenew), Salvaged Patina Distress Ink
Cardstock:  White

Pastel Trees

Hi and welcome!  Today's sketch over at Freshly Made Sketches was designed by Linda Callahan and I used it to make a non-traditional Christmas card.

This die set is an old one from MFT that actually cuts the tree as negative space, but I snipped the decorations away from the tree to give me the tree base and then added white die-cuts over the top of the three pastel-coloured trees.

In keeping with the sketch, I used my scoreboard to add lines above and below the stamped sentiment.  All in all, this was a pretty simply card to make.  What can't be seen in the photo is the clear shimmer pen on the white ornaments and stars.

Thanks for visiting me.  Please make sure you check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

Products used:

Stamps:  Merry Christmas Duo (Waffle Flower)
Ink:  Versafine Onyx Black

Circle Line

Hi and welcome!  Amy O'Neill is the hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches this week and she has a fun one for us!  I decided to play with dies for my card.

After die-cutting the elements from various coloured cardstock, I added some ink blending for dimension and then assembled.  I decided to add some blue circles to more replicate the sketch and position my die-cut pieces around and on them.

The sentiment is a negative hot-foiled sentiment which was already prepared so I quickly added that and called my card done!

Thanks for visiting!  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

Chalkboard Christmas

Hi and welcome.  I'm the sketch hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches and I decided to add to my meagre Christmas card stash with this card.

Firstly, I inked up one side of an embossing folder with white pigment ink and ran it through with kraft cardstock.  I repeated this a few times to get a good layer of white ink then set it aside to dry.  Once dry, I lightly inked around the edges with Vintage Photo distress ink.  Then my plans came unstuck!  I had planned to use some patterned paper my mother gave me a piece of which had scripty Christmas words over a chalkboard-looking background, but I didn't have enough!  So I decided to make my own.  I used a chalk bg stamp first then stamped over that with a text Christmas stamp.  It's not the same but it's okay.

I added the two panels to my card base and included a thin strip of gold foil cardstock at the join.  The tag was hot-foiled and then die-cut and I also die-cut some holly leaves and berries which I added to the tag.  I finished with some twine tied in a bow onto the tag.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Please head over and check out what the rest of the DT have done with my sketch.

Dies:  Seasonal Sketch (Tim Holtz, Tag Sale #5 (PTI), Christmas Mailbox Greetings Hot Foil (Spellbinders)

Ombre Roses

Hi and welcome!  Judy Rozema is our sketch hostess this week over at Freshly Made Sketches and she has a sketch just perfect for ombre panels, which is exactly what I did!

I white heat-embossed the Roses All Over background stamp onto a white panel and then cut it into three equal strips.  On each strip, I ink-blended some distress ink and then arranged the panels evenly onto a Jalapeno Popper card base.

Both the hot-foiled sentiment and the floral dies were already made so I just arranged them and adhered them to the card base.

Thanks so much for visiting.  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the rest of the design team.

Birthday Rascal

Hi and welcome.  Narelle Farrugia is our sketch hostess over at Freshly Made Sketches this week and I took the liberty of rotating her sketch 90 degrees to enable my images to all fit.

I had just received this set and wanted to try my Copic colouring again.  The last attempt really knocked any confidence I had so I have been reluctant to try again.  This isn't perfect by any means and my blending needs some work, but it's better than the last attempt, so I'll take it!  I really need to take some time off work and just spend it in the craft room!

After colouring and die-cutting the images, I set to work on the polaroids.  I die-cut them from white cardstock and used some stencils and distress ink to add a bit of colour to the background.

I then assembled the polaroids and after stamping the sentiment on a white card base, I arranged them haphazardly to look like scattered polaroids.  I finished with a pink enamel heart to match the flower colour.

Thanks for visiting.  Please check out the fabulous cards made by the design team!
