One more quote from Hyrum...

Tonight, just after the dinner prayer, Hyrum says "Wouldn't it be cool if, instead of Amen at the end of a prayer, we could say 'ka-ching'?" Think about that one!

Spring Break!

After much anticipation, Spring Break FINALLY arrived. I don't know who was more excited, me or Hyrum, though I'm thinking it was me... One week of not rushing in the mornings, doing homework, finding lost shoes, babysitting... Just playing and doing what ever we wanted! I loved it!
Our first order of business was a little trip to IKEA and the Living Planet Aquarium, where we bought season passes. If anyone wants to go, let us know! This will be our year of learning everything there is to know about fish. :) We watched the Jelly fish, sea horses, octopus, penguins, electric eels (the list could just keep going on) though, petting the sting rays was by far the coolest thing!

The next day, we went to story time and then to feed the ducks at the BYU botany pond- there were ducks of every size and color and boy were they brave! They kept snatching bites right out of Weston's hands! We also saw Largey Grandpa working in his office, left Daddy a treat at his office and tried all the experiments in the Eyring Science center- I love BYU campus for a free day out!

The next day was finally starting to feel like spring- no snow, no freezing winds, etc- so we pulled out the new rackets and played a little tennis. I think the boys could be getting pretty good by the end of the summer!

The next day, we did precisely what we wanted to do- sat around in our jammies doing sand art,

growing sponge bugs,

and finally getting dressed so we could go out to eat. ( I love those days. Especially when the boys play SO well together- superheroes of course. Electric man and "I have every super power there is" Man... :) Weston won Two free kids meals to Mimi's cafe at the Orem Easter egg hunt so we took advantage of that deal! They brought Hyrum the wrong pancakes and then promised him the right ones- umm, he ate BOTH plates of giant pancakes, PLUS the fruit, the juice and the dessert. I just don't know where it all goes because he hasn't gained an ounce!
Weston did great eating his fruit and almost every bite of HIS pancake BUT, he was disgusted by the 'dirt' cups for dessert. As you can see by his face, he did NoT want 'dirt' on his gummy worm from the cup... Poor Weston!

The next Monday morning was a tragic day when Hyrum had to go back to school and life started rushing by again... Now I'm counting the days until summer!

Hyrum the Literary

Here's a scary picture of our snaggle tooth boy:
But on to the story...
So lately, Hyrum has been very creative in his speach. He comes up with analogies and comparisons to express his feelings:

As he lays down to bed, he says "I love the dark. When you turn off the light, it's like I'm wrapped in a big blanket of comfy-ness!"

One morning I asked him if his nose was still stuffy and he replied "My nose is as clear as a day with out clouds!"

After picking him up from school and having to run a couple errands, we were on our way home and Hyrum says "Finally my feet can touch the grounds of home!"

This week, we went to Pirate Island for Bryson's birthday. Hyrum played a couple games, got some tickets and traded them for a War head. He put it in his mouth for two seconds and then spit it out fast! I asked him if it was too sour and he said "No, it's not even sour. It's more like lightening is striking my tongue!"

Someday, I will put these all into a book... :)

Easter Time!

I love Easter time! Of course, I love anytime we can have a party and make fun stuff, be with friends and eat treats.... :)

Our first adventure was our 2nd annual Easter egg hunt at Nelson's Grove with some cousins and friends- we hid and found one hundred eggs!

For Young Women's I made little birds nests because they are the cutest treats. The girls mostly just ate the skittles out of the nests... :)

For some reason, this picture just wants to be sideways but these are my glitter eggs that match our kitchen decor... so sparkly and beautiful!

Of course, we decorated boiled eggs too- sometimes we do a little tie dye, sometimes the rubber band thing, but this year our favorite was the wax crayon...

Easter (Saturday) morning was the best though! Weston found his basket in the bathtub- including a new tennis racket! (This is reminiscent of my Easter mornings growing up- Pa always made sure we had good tennis rackets and if we didn't, we got them for Easter! This is one of the reasons we do Easter baskets on Saturday, you know, we want to play with our toys!)

After getting our baskets, Weston and I went to the Orem city Egg hunt in the cold wind to see about getting some prizes. Just for being there, they hand you a bag of coupons for all kinds of free stuff (which makes it totally worth it for me:) We stood around the field and spotted out some good eggs, I gave Weston some pointers on how to run straight for the eggs and ignore the rest and then they said "Go!" Weston casually strolled over to the side to get a bag which someone else got first. Then he strolled over to an egg (not the ones we'd talked about) which someone else got. After about 3 minutes when the field is almost bare, I find him with one sack of extra coupons and that was it... Not even one piece of candy! Silly boy!

Hyrum found his in the pantry and he ate a LiTtLe too much candy because he was bouncing off the walls the whole rest of the day. When I told him to calm down, he said "Well, it's your fault, Mommy, because you let me eat so much candy!" Hmm, what should I do next year, do you think?

Jag even got his own pile of treats- new kitty litter, soft treats, soft food, and his new favorite toys: pipe cleaners! I have a package of them downstairs in the storage room, in a bag, in a rubber made bin. Somehow, he manages to move the lid and sneak the pipe cleaner out of the bag during the night and then he leaves them all over the house- naughty kitty! He was very excited for Easter morning and even bit a hole in the bottom of his favorite treat bag... Good thing he is such a cute kitty!
All week, we have been following the story of Easter as it progressed, from the Triumphant entry on Sunday, to the crucifixion last night. It's been a great chance to really focus on what Easter is about and another good reason why we do Easter baskets on Saturday and not Sunday- nothing happens on Saturday because it was in between the death and the resurrection. Sunday morning, though, we can focus purely on the Resurrection. How grateful I am for the great Plan of Salvation and especially for the Atonement of my Saviour! Happy Easter!
