Leaving Limon, Costa Rica

I took a lot of photos of the various ships in the different ports while we were on the cruise.
We traveled with Princess Cruise Lines, on the Coral Princess ship.
I like the lighting and the reflections in the water in this photo taken in the port at Costa Rica.
Both of these moon photos were taken hand held off the balcony of our stateroom later that evening. I was shocked to see that they weren't double or triple moons.
I still have Jamaica and the actual Panama Canal photos to go through,
but will be taking another rest from them.
I will get to them....someday.

Bleeding Heart of Costa Rica

The top side of the Bleeding Heart.
The underside of the Bleeding Heart.
They also called this plant the Jesus Christ Plant.

Can see where they got the name Bleeding Heart,

but it doesn't look anything like the plant we have here.

The life cycle of one Costa Rica flower

I don't know this flower name either. But I saw it in different stages.
So I photographed it in the different stages.
As it was beginning to die down.
Then at the end, probably going to seed.

Flowers of the Rainforest in Costa Rica

I do not know any of the names of these flowers. I just photographed them because I liked them.

The last 3 photographs are of the same plant.
First from the front.
Then from the back.
Then my macro shot. I really like the way this one turned out.

Insects of the Costa Rica Rainforest

These leaf ants were everywhere you turned.
Their paths were funny to see.
Looked like little leaves moving in a line. Appears to be one of the bugs that help the environment by making holes in the leaves.
An ugly ant.
This leaf ant doesn't realise this leaf is rather large for him.

On the ground at the Rainforest in Costa Rica

If a person was actually able to find this location on their own they still could not go on the paths without a guide with them. These photos were all taken on the path through the edge of the rainforest. I like the way the small vine is growing up the side of this tree, and all the other growth on the tree.
This slouth is not in the best of light, but it is the best photo I got.
Click to enlarge and look at that front foot holding on.
This plant appears to be safe enough.
Until you look underneath.
Notice the growth on the leaves.
Guess this is due to all the moisture.
Interesting old vine.
And a closer view.
They called these walking trees. The roots shoot out and the younger roots die and the tree actually moves it's location over time.

Tram ride in Costa Rica Rainforest

This is the green part of the 3 post. Decided to post early for St Patrick's day.
We rode the tram through the rainforest. Considering the rain they had the previous week, I found it to be dry at this height. That is one of the trams coming toward us.
Not real good for photography, and I was disappointed in the lack of birds and animals.

On the tram we saw very little color.
Tomorrow I will post flowers from the floor of the rainforest. They like to see the holes in the greenery at the top of the rainforest.
It means the insects are doing their job to help the plants at the bottom of the rainforest.
The insects eat the holes and that lets the light get to the bottom.

Evidence of woodpeckers, but we didn't see any.
I don't know the names of these trees, they called them broccoli trees.

Notice the new growth on this old tree.
As you can tell we are looking down at the rainforest at this point,
so we were up there.

See those holes in the leaves again.

I will post more of Costa Rica tomorrow.
