Ace space base Mace in place

I finally painted this Mace-class space station that I purchased some time ago. It had been sitting on the work table for awhile, so it was nice to get something done.
This Terran base is from Monday Knight Productions' Galactic Knights range (originally the Starfleet Wars line from Superior Models). It was a simple paint job: Spray black, drybrush in metallic black, metallic gunmetal gray, and metallic silver. If you look close, you can spot a dab or two of color here and there.

You can never have too many space miniatures, right?

Modular space station

Another painting project: some space station modules from Monday Knight Productions.  Again, these aren't for me, but for Ed the Two Hour Wargames Guy.
Like with all the Galactic Knights (formerly Starfleet Wars) minis line, there's tons of detail on the top and bottom of each unit.

Notice the dense amounts of detail on these miniatures.  They make very nice space stations, either alone or linked to other modules.

Space stations in Starfleet Wars

Book 2 of Starfleet Wars added rules for modular star fortresses to the game.  In addition to the Star Fortress (pictured above), each section with its own weapons and defenses, the Observer's Directory & Identification Manual listed space station classes (with stats) for each of the Five Powers:
  • Terran Federation: Morning Star (sometimes listed as Mace)
  • Entomalian Empire: Web
  • Avarian United Worlds: Egg
  • Aquarian Alliance: Wave
  • Carnivoran Republic: Rat
Superior Models released miniatures for the Mace/Morning Star and the Web space stations, as well as the various parts of the Star Fortress.  You can see additional pictures of them in this old Galactic Knights price list on the Monday Knight Productions website.  While I can't find the Mace or Web for sale anywhere on the MKP site, the components to the Star Fortress are still for sale as "Generic Space Station Parts."

However, I can't find any evidence (other than the ODIM) that space stations for the remaining powers ever existed.  Has anyone ever heard of any additional space station models for Starfleet Wars?  Or did the line get shut down before they could ever be produced?

Painted space station

I painted up this Battlefleet Gothic space station for use as an objective in my upcoming Starfleet Wars game at the South Texas Mini-Con.
I attempted to do something different with the paint scheme for this mini in order to distinguish it from my spacefleets and give it the appearance of great age.  I primered it white, then drybrushed with grey and black, in a sort of reverse of my usual method.
It came out looking horrible!  I was ready to scrap the entire paint job, when my wife suggested drybrushing with a metallic blue to make the model stand out on the table.  Thanks to her suggestion, I was able to avoid repainting the mini.
I'm still not entirely happy with how the space station looks, but it'll do for now.
The mini came with a bunch of arms that extend from the outside of the wheel, and some more protuberances to go on top of the thing.  As you can see, I left them off this model.
Like I said, I may redo this miniature at a later date, but for now I've got a space station model for my games.
