My Top 10 From 2025 #6

Image
#6 With the gradual phasing out of highly articulated 3.75 Marvel Universe and GI Joe figures came the 6 inch scale takeover. While other companies have tried to reinvigorate smaller scaled action figures, none have done it, IMO, like Jakks Pacific < < Jazwares honorable mention>> . As far as aesthetics combined with articulation I feel like they currently have the most to offer at the 3.75 to 5 inch scale.  Fave Factor: This was a tough one because all of these Sega Genesis themed action figures by Jakks Pacific are pretty epic. This could have easily gone to Weredragon, Gilius, or Roo but Musashi gets the nod here. I've had a ton of ninja themed action figures through the years but this one's different. Joe Musashi doesn't even come with alot of accessories and is pretty basic but he's got good energy. Yep! Your ears don't deceive you, I said energy. Certain figures have a certain energy about them and for me Joe Mus...

Jakks Pacific Streets of Rage - Roo

Image
Not gonna lie. I don't think I ever got to play as Roo in any Streets of Rage game. I think he was an unlockable player. I can't remember. I should Google it. Either way, Jakks Pacific took on the task of producing a highly articulated boxing Kangaroo and did a decent job of it.  I'm really digging the sculpt work on all of these Jakks figures. Judging from all the weird, moving parts in the legs of a kangaroo, I think Jakks did a pretty good job with Roo.  It took me a little while to figure out the leg articulation but I was able to finally get Roo into some pretty cool poses.  Here's Roo sparring with GI Joe Classified Big Boa. That just about wraps up my Jakks Pacific posts. Stay tuned as I've got some things on the way that I'll be showing once they arrive.

Jakks Pacific Altered Beast - Werewolf

Image
I'm really impressed with this line of Jakks Pacific figures. These days, 6 inch figures dominate the toy aisles so It's always nice to see a quality, smaller scaled figure on the pegs.  Werewolf is a nice looking figure. I mean, you could say he's just a werewolf but he's not. He's Altered Beast Werewolf! I have one gripe and that's not being able to bring his arms completely down and at his sides. Everything else I like.  Werewolf comes with a power up sphere that reminds me a lot of the Sega Saturn logo. It has no pegs or special way to interact with the figure. Unless you have a stand to display it , it's just gonna sit there.  For size comparison, here's Werewolf next to Marvel Legends retro 3.75 figures Hulk and Spider-Man. More Jakks Pacific Sega goodness on the way! Stay tuned!

Jakks Pacific Streets of Rage - Axel

Image
That techno riff at the very beginning of stage 1 in Streets of Rage 2 on the Sega Genesis will forever be etched in my aging and dilapidated memory. The game was pretty epic. Of the many installments, part 2 was my favorite.  Streets of Rage 2 Stage 1 Music Of all the Jakks Pacific Sega themed figures, Axel is the most underwhelming. This has nothing to do with functionality or quality, it's just that Axel is a pretty ho-hum character as far as design goes. 90 percent of every beatem' up or fighting game in the late 80s, early 90s had a bandana, jean and t-shirt wearing character.  You can get Axel into some decent poses. Every figure comes with at least one accessory, Axel comes with his flaming grand uppercut effect.  For reference, here's Axel next to DC McFarlane Superpowers Superman and Batman figures.

Jakks Pacific Altered Beast - Weredragon

Image
My first memories of Altered Beast are mostly  arcade related. I remember not caring about beating the game as much as I did turning into the main characters alternate beast mode. "POWER UP!"  😆 Weredragon was pretty indestructible, using his Blanka-esque body enveloping electricity move to fend off evil hordes of ogre zombies, blobs and wasp-men.  Weredragon feels solid and heavy in hand. What toy collectors would refer to as a  "chunky" action figure. The electric bolt accessory fits snug in Weredragon's mouth, looks organic and flows with the head sculpt. You can almost hear the 16-bit crackling effect ⚡ The wings move up and down for outstretched or closed display. Weredragon's tail, while limited , is also articulated.  And just for reference, here's Weredragon next to a couple of larger Marvel Universe figures.

X-Mas Pick Up (Part 2)

Image
My last Christmas gift to myself was fueled by my love for the Sega Genesis. Jakks Pacific has been releasing these figures sporadically at my local Walmart. I was able to hunt down Axel, Roo and the  Altered Beast dragon figure but needed eBay to help me fill out the set. I passed on the Monkey Ball figure because it doesn't really have ties to any 16 bit Sega Genesis games that I actively played or have any memories of.  I'm still undecided as to what I want to do with these figures. To open, or not to open, that is the question ❓ ❓ ❓

Nostalgia

Image
Right now, this is what brings me back. It's not even connected to T.V. or anything. It's set out as more of a display piece, but there's something about this X-Men game and box art that evoke pure bliss! It marked the first time we got to play a video game with actual, fleshed out cartoon sprites of our favorite Jim Lee X-Men characters! This and Sports talk Baseball were game changers for me. Loved my Sega Genesis!!! Latest Pick Ups

Not much ,just a couple of things ,but something big on the horizon ;)First up we have some super cheap third party Sega Genesis six button controllers. After popping In my Judge Dredd game the other day ,I realized that It implements six button play.I quickly hopped online and picked up the cheapest set I could find and unfortunately got what I paid for :( Don't get me wrong, they serve their purpose, but that's it.Out of the box they are extremely lightweight and feel cheap. The buttons stick out excessively ,so It feels like your  pushing down on a pen top, only without the resistance. The D- Pad works good and overall ,the controller is usable, but there are definitely better options out there. These will make good place holders If your looking to do some fast gaming until you can get yourself a legit six button pad. My next purchase was a little better. Marvel Universe Is my shit.I can't get enough of  it and I'm constantly looking for new additions to make ...
