Sharp Practice 2 At The Harrogate Wargames Club

Had a recent game the club using the Sharp Practice 2 rules.  Organised by John S this was our first bash using these Napoleonic Skirmish rules.  It was interesting to contrast these rules with the 'Eagle Rampant' (ER) version of Lion Rampant that I posted about back 8th April this year. Link.

In terms of ease of play and accessibility ER wins hands down, as SP2 is a far far more complex offering.  That said SP2 offers a deeper richer gaming experience for the more hard-core/enthusiastic Napoleonic gamer.

In the game we played I was the clean-living god fearing British taking on the unworthy French dictator and his henchmen :)  Sadly one I lost due to being insufficiently aggressive with my Rifle Regt.  Great fun however  :)

Here's some pics of the game :)   Figures belong to both John S and Gavin M.

Simba Superplay Castle

Following a link posted on one of the Facebook pages it seems that Debenhams (in the UK) are selling off cheap 'Simba Superplay Castles'. For only £21 delivered, I must confess I couldn't resist getting one :)

Currently in the process of painting one of the towers up. I'll post photos of my progress in due course. Currently intending on using it in both Lion and Dragon Rampant games.

DRAGON RAMPANT ORC ARMY

I mentioned a few posts back that my regular gaming crowd and I had embarked on a 'Badlands' Dragon Rampant campaign.  This is the current 29 point army configuration I've settled upon and takes advantage of the Darkened Skys trait that my Warlord (Ruglud 'Bonechewer') was lucky enough to roll up at the start of the campaign. As of the date of this posting he has fought in 8 battles and has managed to survive a couple of near-death experiences by the skin of his teeth ! LOL

Configuration As Per My Last Battle
1 x Lesser Orc Shaman - Wizardling - with the strength of a Light Infantry unit + Warband Leader (5pts).
2 x Orc Crossbow  - Heavy Missile (Fearful) (2pts each)
2 x Goblin Infantry - Light Infantry (3pts each)
1 x Orc Scouts - Scouts (2 pts each)
2 x Orc Chariots - (6pts each)

Alternative Variation (Fielded the week before)
Instead of the 2 Goblin units and Scouts take 2 x Orc Giant Wolf Rider units (Heavy Cavalry)

28mm Napoleonic - Brunswick Brigade

With it coming up to the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo there is a lot enthusiasm at the club for doing a re-fight of this classic battle.  We've opted to use the Black Powder rules and use 28mm figures, mainly because a couple of our group already had some.  After steadfastly resisting getting into this period as I've so many other wargaming interests, I succumbed and agree to become involved.  A few weeks backs now I picked up at the Vapnartak show a small Brunswick Brigade. The figures are Perry Miniatures (metal) and are quite nice.  (Here's a selection)

My friend John Savage is doing most of the organising for this game, and has produced a comprehensive listing of the units involved in the battle that we need to field.  From the units outstanding I selected the Brunswicks for three reasons:

1)  The unit isn't too big, being only 2 Regts of Infantry, a small Calalry Regt. a Gun and a HQ.  Hopefully this means its an achievable aim in terms if getting it painted and ready for mid-year.

2)  The figures don't need assembling.  I know plastics are cheaper, but gluing them together is a ball-acher.

3)  Their uniform is really plain being mainly black, and so is easy to paint !  LOL

Anyway, here's the first Regt I'm on with.  Still some work to do, but definitely making some progress here.
