Friday Crush

Eddie Ross always has the Midas touch...and this Insta peek at how his master bathroom is shaping up at his new house is pretty much everything that is right with the world. The blue/green Le Lac colorway is iconic and coupled with that tile, this will be #bathroomgoals. Can't WAIT to see this one in its final state.

Summer has begun. We'll be hitting the pool and Ana Claire will make her dance debut in her first recital. Hope your weekend has fun plans. See you next week!

Movin' and Shakin' (In Someone Else's Shoes)

Friends, Eddie Ross and Jaithan Kochar were in town. So I had to meet them.

I would like to think that I live the life of a chic design blogger, jetting off to hip events every week - and though the invites are plenty (because I'm on every PR email list known to mankind), I rarely find the energy to attend.

But this duo is behind so much tabletop, design and styling that I LOVE...there was no way I could miss it.

And as you can see, I'm pretty thrilled I went. I got to connect with many design/blogging friends that I haven't seen for years. Literally years. It felt so good to catch up.

That's the money shot of the evening - Terri Sapienza, me, Liz Levin, Eddie, and Lauren Liess - solid group right there.

And a special thank you to Liz, who let me borrow her shoes. Because at the 11th hour I realized that the sweater-legging-boots getup I wore to work that day would be woefully casual so I ran into H&M to grab that dress and earrings...and Liz came to the rescue with black pumps.

Get your hands on Eddie and Jaithan's book, Modern Mix. It's bananas and literally the perfect Christmas gift for any design lover (or newlywed or single professional) in your life:

Huge thank you to hostess Lynni Megginson and Baker Furniture for the wonderful evening!

Friday Crush

Rejoice! Sumptuous table-setting season is back! This image from Eddie Ross' Instagram feed was just what I needed to get me geared up for entertaining season. I understand the ease of patio dining but nothing compares to setting a gorgeous layered table indoors. Do we think those are brass julep cups? Because I need some. In other news, who has their hands on Eddie's book? I also need that.

Ana Claire wrapped up her first week of preschool and starts ballet for teeny people this weekend. I wouldn't trade this phase for anything, as it has been a blast, but where did the time go?? On another note, I love the feeling of possibility on a Friday - those moments when you think you are going to accomplish everything on your list this weekend. Here's hoping it all gets done. Have a fabulous weekend...see you next week!

Friday Crush

Eddie Ross and his hot pink peonies, for the win. What a delicious vignette that just screams summer. I love, love pairing hot pink with blue and white porcelain - a classic color combination that will always be chic. And add in some hosta to blend with the amazing palm wallpaper...100% winning.

June weekends are pretty sleepy around here...but I'm not complaining. Hope you have some exciting plans to enjoy the break. Have a great weekend and see you next week!

Eddie Ross Insta Inspo

Can we talk about Eddie Ross' Instagram feed over the weekend? My eyeballs kept bugging out of their sockets as he chronicled preparations for Thanksgiving at his country house, Pine Hill Farm:

Those are some magazine-worthy shots of what I'm positive will be one of the most aesthetically pleasing holidays in history. I, for one, would love to see it in person!

Hope your holiday prep is going well!

Friday Crush

A peek at Eddie Ross' apartment per his Instagram account. I seriously don't know what element I love most but that peacock fireplace, Chinoiserie screen, chartreuse chair and awesome rug are all contenders. What an amazing vignette - you know his home must be an eye-popper. I believe they are photographing it for Better Homes & Gardens...will keep my eyes peeled for that issue!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend! See you next week!

Friday Crush

Did you catch this table setting that Eddie Ross posted on his Twitter feed? Isn't it so beautiful? I'm not really a summer gal, so this image makes me yearn for warm autumnal dinner parties. I love the orange glow of the walls, the GORGEOUS black chest set up as a bar and of course the fantastic table that I'll assume Eddie arranged with all sorts of fantastic vintage pieces. It's all very masculine and inviting - note the layered placemats on a small table. Good idea.

Hope you have a wonderful weekend in store...see you Monday!

Eddie & Jaithan in DC

Calling my local DC-area readers...Eddie & Jaithan are in town at the DC Big Flea in Chantilly tomorrow to take a small group of shoppers around the flea market to dish about vintage wares and antiques.  I was slated to go, but had to unexpectedly go out of town. My ticket is up for grabs for the 11 a.m slot (which I believe is sold out) - the ticket is $50 and from everything I have heard, shopping with the dynamic duo is tons of fun and very educational.

If you'd like to take my spot, email me at daniela (at) aestheticoiseau.com and we'll work out the details.

Happy weekend everyone...see you Monday!

Great Use of a Ginger Jar

I know Easter has come and gone (I hope yours was happy), but I could not let this image go un-posted. Have you ever seen such a divine use of a blue and white ginger jar? So whimsical, so elegant, so fun.

Eddie Ross strikes again...really, Eddie, how do you do it all? You are like the Ryan Seacrest of interior decor and I mean that in the nicest, most respectful, I'm-in-awe-of -your-multitasking way.

Eddie put together this stunning table for a DIFFA event in Kansas City. Read about the transformation on Eddie's blog here...

I have a ginger jar just like this one smack dab in the middle of my dining table...I bet this look could be reworked depending on the event...hmmm...filing this one away for my next holiday...

Friday Crush

If you are an avid design blog reader, I'm sure you've seen this image. It's Eddie Ross' design for Bloomingdale's Big Window Challenge. Eddie was selected by Elle Decor to design their window for the challenge, and I absolutely love it. You don't know where to look first, but in a good way. There are classical, modern and traditional elements all mixed together - and the color palette is fantastic.

Click here to see the other rooms in the Challenge and vote on your favorite. And click here to read a very fun description of the room on Eddie's blog.

This has been a VERY busy week...I'm so glad it's over. T and I are checking out a Craigslist find for her dressing room tonight...and also hitting up HomeGoods this weekend to score some accessories, which I am very much looking forward to .

Hope your weekend is fab...see you Monday!

Meet Lonny

I went through the five stages of grief when I received the postcard announcing the end of Cottage Living. HOW could they pull the plug on my lifeline to all things quaint and cozy?  And then there was the end of domino...it was too much.

Actually, it was a cruel reminder that the economy affects everything - even great shelter magazines.

Those that share my love of interior decoration cling to these publications as much more than words on paper - they are talismans guiding us with knowledge and know-how that we can apply to our world. They are tools that serve a purpose beyond light reading. You'll never see us toss an issue.

So when I heard about Lonny, I was beyond intrigued. It was to be a design magazine, kinda similar to domino, but in an online platform. Wait, what? A web-based design magazine? Ummm....yes, please.

image from Lonny magazine

Lonny is the creation of fabric designer and blogger Michelle Adams (Rubie Green; MA Belle)and professional photographer Patrick Cline (Brand-Arts). He's a Londoner, she's a New Yorker - hence Lonny. Both saw a need for a publication that would demystify design and put decorative ideas into real terms (much like the late domino where Michelle had worked).

They also understood the hurdles and limitations of traditional print so decided to create Lonny as an online venture. The expansive platform would allow them to create in-depth stories with lots of photography without worry of page count. Not to mention that the Web would effortlessly sync users to the items shown in the magazine - do you like Kate Simpson's towels? or Grace Bonney's wall hook? Click on it!...and you are taken to the product online. Brilliant.

So Sunday morning, before Carter got up, I snuck downstairs, made myself a cup of coffee, curled up in our big chair with my laptop and clicked, clicked, clicked.

I was delighted to see there were almost 200 pages to get through. The issue had a whopping seven featured homes (all in or near New York) showcasing different styles. I was especially interested in seeing the homes of Eddie Ross and Grace Bonney - they did not disappoint. The writing of the magazine (by Shawn Gauthier) is very familiar and straightforward - makes you feel comfortable as you flip the pages and read about the people whose homes you are viewing.

Grace Bonney's bedroom

Lonny is peppered with some fashion pieces - fashion design and interior design tend to trend similarly so they are a natural combination, but I like that fashion was used as an accent with the focus staying on interiors.

One page that I look forward to seeing developed is the how-to page - for a DIY-er like me, I'm always interested in learning about achieving a look or creating something unique on my own. The page had good ideas, but for the audience that I think the magazine appeals to, it could be a heartier section (maybe profiling one good project each issue?).

But the meat of the mag was certainly in the features. Such different takes on interiors (and exteriors) with great accompanying photography - Kate Simpson's sophisticated beach house, Eddie Ross and Jaithan Kochar's farmhouse, a Manhattan apartment styled by Ron Marvin and another by Carolina Irving (her own home), Grace Bonney's Brooklyn apartment, a renovation by Laurent Girard and Leonora Mahle, and the gardens and home of Deborah Needleman. Two hundred pages are a lot to take in, so I'm only hitting the highlights. If you are a shelter pub fiend visit lonnymag.com. The premiere issue was delightful and I expect it to get better as it makes its entrée into the design world.

Below is my favorite image from the issue. It's of Kate Simpson's bathroom (she was a Senior Market Editor for domino). Have I told you how much I looove wallpaper? Well I do, and this one is divine. And those towels! The monogram is so Chinoiserie (I of course clicked on those puppies and was taken here). Enjoy Lonny!
