Bargain Hunting at the Thrift Store

Image
I've been meaning to head out to the thrift store for a while but life keeps getting in the way.  Even today, when I was determined to see what's out there, I was waylaid a couple of times.  I didn't actually arrive at the store until close to 4:00 PM.   I want to make more whimseys and flower plates for local consignment.  Who knows I may even reopen my Etsy shop.   I love this fish plate.  It's pottery, not ceramic. It may be hard not to keep this cup.  I'm such a sucker for a great mug.   The Banana tree is so Florida! This has the makings of a good start for a  table whimsey. .  These vintage birds could be put with this plate, the colors are very similar, but we'll see! Nothing happens until it happens.   The Olive pattern is just beautiful.   A definite keeper.  I've already had a cup of tea in it .  It's a large mug, curved lip, great color and texture.  There...

Unofficially Fall

Image
It's unofficially fall because school is back in session.  Yesterday the children of Pasco County Florida officially returned to their classrooms.  I'm still overjoyed each fall that I am not among them.  Routine is the bane of my life and my free spirit chafes at being anywhere at 8:00 AM, let alone having to be there five days a week. With all the back to school hoopla, television and newspaper ads, video clips of busses trundling around and dire warnings to motorists, I feel fall-ish and celebrated by purchasing..well thrifting...my official mug for autumn 2012.  The pumpkin color is perfect.  I appreciate the subtle art design, one I won't tire of....

January is Blue

Image
I used to always feel blue in January...  ...but no longer.  It's sunny here and although cold this week, the weekend promises to be warm and toasty.  Even overnight temps of 25 degrees don't scare me one bit.  So, since January has always felt blue, I'll embrace it.  Even here. In a new way. My knitting is blue.  My unfinished knitting.  It's Pomp a Doddle and is supposed to knit up fast but there is a little problem.  It doesn't pull out of the skein nicely.  I tried to roll it into a ball but began knitting when I realized a ball probably would not unroll well.   Well, the skein is now a tangled mess and will require time to find the end and I'll have to roll from the back end!  The Seafoam Shawl has not progressed as I hoped.  It was to be done by Christmas yet it isn't too much further than this.  I could be blue over it, but I'm not.  I was earlier this month.  I was going to just frog it and use ...
