Fun Whimsical Tidbit Tray

Image
I couldn't wait to get started on making a couple of tidbit trays for the Magnolia Terrace Tea Room in nearby Spring Hill.   In the past all my whimsy's have been made for gifts.   We had a lovely family tea awhile back and I noticed they had an area where you could purchase a variety of  teas, antiques, and fun dishes.  I thought my tidbit trays would look nice there.  I took in some photos of some of my tidbit trays earlier this week and the ladies at the tea room liked them.  So we'll see how this works out.   My niece, Becky and my mother.  The shelves in the background hold the items for sale. This is my first whimsical Tidbit Tray for the tea room I have been picking up dishes for awhile that I thought would be fun.   You will remember this.....from yesterday's post!  Mixing patterns work when the colors are similar I think this plate would be so pretty with ...

Thursday's Thrifting

Image
I'm winding down on my thrifting orgy.  I've been down by my favorite store every day this week with an hour or more to kill so I've had lots of time to inspect every item.  My pocketbook is getting thin so I must start creating my totems and stay out of the shops for a bit.   But this is my haul for today. This is a favorite even though it doesn't photograph well.  This Asian bowl is very large and the colors are rich.  I love the artsy splashes and the shape, which you can see best in the bottom photo.  It's really gorgeous when you're holding it.   These are for me to use.  I love the smoothness of this style pottery and these cereal bowls are McCoy so will stand up to daily use.  Besides that,  my husband loves them. These two look great together, but they aren't a set.  They will probably will be together though in the same stack. I love Belle and this one will be cute on the top of a chi...

A Mellow Yellow Monday

Image
It's a beautiful morning here in Ohio! I made this totem whimsy from a few dishes I found while thrifting for my hostess with the mostess.  Totem's can be used at the table or in the garden.  If you use it outside here in Ohio, it must be brought in during the winter as ice and snow will crack ceramic and glass items. I hope she likes it! Table Whimsies

Image
My new found hobby is now making unusual dishes from thrift store throwaways.  This is in combination with my other favorite hobby of poking through every shelf in any thrift store I can find!  I saw a few at a garden shop and they called them Whimsies.  Some for outside and some for table decorations.  Table whimsies are perfect for entertaining! Having that one unusual dish you can build your table around gives you confidence.  Anyway.....Here are several different types I put together.   This is a great tea party whimsy Or for a birthday party.  Hey, even an unbirthday party!  I would put cookies or candies on top and cake squares on the bottom to serve with tea.  The 3D look on this one is really striking!  It was actually designed by me as a garden whimsy, a plate flower.  As a table whimsy, it might be more fun.  The flower bowl can hold petals or a candle.  It will hold ...

My Christmas Mantel

Image
Christmas is a time of peace and therefore I have decorated very simply this year.  It's been such a busy time and I have spent the fall getting everything placed just so in our new home, that to change it all to decorate wasn't a priority.  I do love to decorate the mantel however and was very grateful to have one this year. A wreath hung on a jutting stone...  ...found items  A bit of candle light  And family treasure give it warmth and meaning.   Natural fresh flowers and a bit of whimsy finish it off.  Stockings will be hung elsewhere this year. A gift of a scented candle and fresh evergreens scent the foyer and set a mood And simple touches here and there hung on knobs evoke the simplicity I wanted Merry Christmas! ...to view other holiday blogs showing their decorations and traditions,  visit all those who have hosted link parties: Curb Alert's Glitzy Glittery Party!...
