Adepticon Team tournament

By TheGraveMind

Some of us from the Battle Mallet gaming club decided we were going to go to Adepticon and partake in the Team tournament. We went with no display board, no real theme. We didn't even fully know what our other team members were bringing in their lists. Guess how we did...

New Tyranids Vs Crimson Fists

By TheGraveMind

In a game to both practice the upcoming Frostycon missions, and to gain more experience with the New tyranid codex, I pitted my tyranids against Nemesis' Crimson fist army.

Of Warriors and Deathspitters

By TheGraveMind

A lot of people are giving the Tyranid warrior flak for being bad but almost needed for synapse. They are one of my favorite tyranid units and I want to go through why they are what they are, how they have been and how I think they could have been better.

Trial by Fire results

By TheGraveMind

Here in Indy we just had a Trial by Fire tournament, which allowed both stronghold assault and Escalation as well as forge world in full. It was a tournament to test to see what actual combos could be taken, and how powerful and over the top it would be. I was planning on just adding a Baracuda to my list, but my order didn't arrive till the night before. So I took my standard Tau+marine tournament list and see how it held up.

Bits search; chaos head

By TheGraveMind

I'm looking for 30+ of this bit. It is a standard Chaos marine helmet. I'd prefer to do a trade, I have tons of tyranid, Marine, and chaos bits. I also have a good amount of Dark eldar, Eldar, and Tau bitz to trade. I'd accept any amount I can get. I'll buy and work out shipping if the quantity dictates.

Thanks!

A bit of new Space Marine bitz

By TheGraveMind

So GW's site has been down, or low, or not loading, depending on which direction the wind is blowing. I managed to get on after waiting 10 minutes for each page to load. I went ahead and saved some pics, so people can see some of the new potential with out having to suffer like I did.

Tau power; Codex or Edition

By TheGraveMind

When the Tau codex first came out, I heard a lot of trash talk. But after playing some games with my tau (pics soon) and also against tau I can tell you they are here to stay. Considering their battle brother allies are going to be the two newest books out, Tau will have all the new shiny toys to play with. It has really made me consider the strengths of the Tau book.

Board Control; Mobility vs Durability

By TheGraveMind

You'll hear people say "Play the mission", but what does it mean? It means that 5 of the 6 missions are objective based and while it is fun to just kill everything you can, you need to be able to get to those objectives when the time comes. Generally an army isn't designed to do something like just kill everything, it will use some board control as well. While killing stuff naturally gives some control of the board, actually making the effort to get the upper hand can win the game. Generally this is done by two means, mobility or durability.

Tippcon aftermath

by TheGraveMind

This is my kind of xeno trophy

Tippcon was this past weekend. Since I used to go to Purdue, I couldn't pass on a chance to visit West Laf. I took my girlfriend with me to show her around while not playing in the tournament. While in numbers it wasn't as many people as I had expected, it was far more competitive with a lot of big names and top placers all in one room. I had brought a Nid list, so I was already losing some confidence from the go.

Hot 40k Rules

TheGravemind
OK, so it has been flaring all across the blogs, and I've been addressing it long before, so I wanted to bring it up here. I have two core rules I feel are being brought up and challenged. It all really started when tau came out, but with eldar now has come to full volume.

A Time of Reckoning

By The Gravemind

The Tau book has finally been released, and I've spent the last day reading through it. I'm not going to sit here and tell you what is the new hot and what not to take, that is for you and time to tell. But I think this is a great new addition to the 40k scene. They are great as a stand alone army, or as an allied force. They have an answer to almost everything, with tons of viable options in each FoC. Expect to see a bunch of Tau hitting the tables very soon. Time for me to get back to my army, Hammmerheads won't build themselves!

Tyranid spore pod model

By TheGraveMind
So people at the Indy Open asked me where I got my pod from for my tyranids. I got them (ya I have more than one) from Mr. Dandy/Wargamma. He makes tons of nice little resin things. I've gotten a few of my terrain/display board bits from him as well. I think the Indy Open even gave away some of his stuff as prizes.

Painting help needed (cockpits)

By TheGravemind

After the IndyOpen, I took a step back from gaming, and have been working on painting. Seeing all of those well painted armies really inspired me to get more stuff done. Yes, I have that post pending as well. And here is where I came to a problem. Working on getting some fliers of my own done, I'm trying to figure out how to paint the cockpit.

Calm before the storm

By TheGraveMind
So with just a few days away from the Indy open, there is a calm settling as everyone is working hard getting their armies ready and getting the last few practice games in before the big day. The turn out at the Kokomo tournament was really good, with xenos making a great show. I tried out a new variation of a list for it, and really liked the results. So now I'm in a mad dash to get my new units finished. I've put the last finishing touches on my display board and everything is coming together nicely.

If you have an army, a free weekend and the will to compete, I highly recommend you checking it out, there might be a few open spot left. TheIndyOpen

So Grey Knight sales are down?

By TheGravemind

So the deamons have been rumored for a while now, and with warriors of chaos coming out of nowhere, I figured that was it. I didn't think the daemons would get an update.... I mean, there are tons more that need it first. Daemons are one of the most feared armies right now, they just got a white dwarf update. But the fickle dark gods have more up their sleeves than us mortals know.... The daemonic incursion has begun!

Mawloc vs Trygon

By TheGraveMind
Found this over at BOLS
I've been going back and forth about to run mawlocs or trygons in my list. I'll list some of my thoughts, but I want you all to weigh in what you are more afraid of facing. They both have great uses and can be very rough on the opponents, and so it really comes down to what you need in your list, and how you want to play them.

Dark Angels; Things to know

By TheGravemind
So it seems every other blog is doing a review or a summary of the new codex. I'll let them do their thing, but after a few days reading the book, here are the key things:
