How blurring text in an image works
Blurring text in an image hides words such as names, email addresses or account numbers before you share a screenshot.
- You draw a box over each area to hide, then choose blur or pixelate and the strength.
- The blurred or pixelated pixels replace the original ones in the downloaded file.
- The image is sent to our server, processed in memory with the sharp image library and returned to your browser; it is not saved. EXIF metadata is removed unless you choose to keep it.
Free to use, with no account or sign-up. No watermark or logo is added to your result.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about blurring text in an image.
How do I blur text in a screenshot?
Upload the screenshot, drag on the image to draw a box over each text to hide, choose Blur or Pixelate and the strength, then download the result. You can move, resize or delete each box before you download. The same steps blur out any other part of a picture, such as a face or a license plate.
What is the difference between blur and pixelate?
Pixelate turns each area into large square blocks of color. Blur reduces the area to blocks too, then smooths and blurs them for a softer look. Both change the pixels of the downloaded image itself, not just how it is displayed.
Can blurred or pixelated text be recovered?
At a low strength, part of the text can sometimes be reconstructed, for example by comparing it with blurred or pixelated versions of likely words. For names, emails, numbers and other sensitive text, use a high strength or pixelate. For highly sensitive data, crop it out of the image instead.
Can I hide several pieces of text at once?
Yes. Draw up to 20 areas on the same image; the chosen effect and strength apply to all of them.
Which formats and file sizes are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, TIFF and GIF images up to 10 MB. The result keeps the original format unless you choose another one. An animated GIF keeps only its first frame.
Are my images stored?
No. The image is sent to our server, processed in memory for this request and returned to your browser; the tool does not save it. EXIF metadata, which can include where a photo was taken, is removed unless you choose to keep it.
