How pixelating an image works
Pixelating an image turns all or part of it into large square blocks to hide details such as faces, license plates or text.
- The whole image is selected at first; you can instead draw boxes over the areas to hide, and set the strength.
- The image is sent to our server, pixelated in memory with the sharp image library and returned to your browser; it is not saved.
Free to use, with no account or sign-up. No watermark or logo is added to your result.

Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about pixelating an image.
How do I pixelate an image?
Upload the image: the entire image is selected, with a live preview of the blocks. Move the Strength slider to make the blocks larger or smaller, then click Pixelate image and download the result. To pixelate only part of the picture, click Clear all and drag on the image to draw a box over each area.
How do I pixelate a face or a license plate?
Click Clear all, then drag a box over each face, plate or other area to hide, up to 20 per image, and raise the strength. You can move, resize or delete each box before you download. You place each box yourself: nothing is selected for you.
How large are the blocks?
The block size depends on the strength and on the size of the area: from 2% of its shorter side at the lowest strength to 50% at the highest. The page starts at a low strength, which turns a whole photo into about 25 blocks across its shorter side. For faces, plates and text, use a higher strength.
Can a pixelated image be unpixelated?
Pixelation averages each block into a single color, so the original detail is gone from the downloaded file. With small blocks, though, a face or a short text can sometimes still be recognized or guessed by comparing it with pixelated candidates. For sensitive information, use large blocks, or crop it out of the image.
Which formats and file sizes are supported?
JPEG, PNG, WebP, AVIF, TIFF and GIF images up to 10 MB. The result keeps the original format unless you choose another one, and an animated GIF keeps only its first frame. EXIF metadata, which can include where a photo was taken, is removed unless you choose to keep it.
Are my images stored?
No. The image is sent to our server, pixelated in memory for this request and returned to your browser; the tool does not save it. No account is needed.
