I chose this one because it was relatively short (only 92 chapters or so) and completed. It was a very fun ride, the father of the MC is a serial killer but on the outside he looks like the kindest man alive. Towards 30% of the story I was unable to stop reading, very addicting! It’s a cute scary from time to time story, suitable for those looking for a fast-paced, fun, and finished thriller.

I have honestly watched Bishop in Gilmore Girls, she was brillant. When I saw the audiobook on Libby, I was curious and immediately put it on hold. If one is interested in theatre, they would’ve appreciated the book more. It was okay, I do not have much to say, Bishop reading the audiobook had definitely made it more special. ...more

I have read many McFadden book and I have honestly enjoyed this more than most. I noticed that it is rated lower than many of her other popular books, so I was hesitant when I borrowed the audiobook. I have read enough of her novels to notice a pattern. Many said that the plot twist is so absurd, but it's honestly not her worst. I had already expected some far fetched (unconvincing) resolution but since I liked how things wrapped up, I didn't mind.
The audiobook's narration was good and the book fast paced. I liked Tegan's character well enough, a change from other McFadden's books where I usually don't care about her main characters.
I'd recommend this book if you were looking for an addictive thriller and didn't mind a kind of absurd plot twist(s). ...more

While I don't take those books very seriously, there were some things that I couldn't dismiss.
pros: - book short and fast paced - acceptable main characters - I really liked the tension between Rune and Guideon - entertaining - ending that makes you want to read the second book
cons: - love triangle involving two brothers (COME ON) - Rune as the crimson moth was more tell than show since we didn't see her much in action - There some plot holes, for example, how can someone just randomly enter another person's house? (view spoiler)[ how didn't Rune lock her rooms so other servants don't enter? (hide spoiler)] - why not use magic for healing when the opportunity presented itself? (view spoiler)[why didn't she cast to save Alex's life using his blood? At least she couldn't said why she can't do that... (hide spoiler)] - love triangle resolved in the old fashioned way (view spoiler)[ of course, someone is going to die so Guideon and Rune can live with their choices, and then accepting to marry just like that? it was totally out of character (hide spoiler)] - teen hormones leading the main characters to make hasty decisions - Rune not thinking why there were dead bodies left by witches, since she wasn't the one doing it (I assume most of those), didn't she wonder if another witch was in the arena? - witch hate turning into genocide and Rune seemed oblivious to the reason behind the uprising
All in all, the book was fun and I'll be starting the next book soon before I lose interest. The story isn't new but it's a quick entertaining read. However, there were a lot of incidents that did not make sense or needed better explanation....more

I’m honestly not sure how many stars to rate the book. It started fine enough but between 25% to 75%, it was so dreadfully boring. I couldn’t really connect to any character until the end since we had too many perspectives. I liked the idea of the story but I honestly couldn’t care enough. The last part was very good and that’s why I’m tempted to raise my rating to 3 stars. But at the same time, I considered dropping the book multiple times.
Would I recommend this novel? If you’re really into greek mythology and read enough reviews yes. If you aren’t, I highly doubt you’ll enjoy it....more

Bonnie was the only one I liked, while I found Lucky and Avery unbearable. It also felt unrealistic for the three of them to achieve such remarkable success despite their challenging backgrounds. Each sister had an exaggerated, flamboyant personality, with little common ground between them. It seemed like the author overcompensated in making each sister distinct. While I understand why many enjoyed the book, I wasn’t aware that three of the four sisters were addicts or that cheating played a role. Had I known, I would’ve avoided it entirely, especially since the brief redemption arc did little to change my perspective.
I listened to the audiobook and the narration wasn't flattering, it was weird, and I am not sure how to describe it. It was as though the narrator was reciting rather than reading, with awkward pauses that made it sound like there was a period after every couple of words....more
