this ✨dramione✨ fic is one of the most depressing things i've ever read and i fucking love it.
everyone- and i mean everyone was raving about this on tiktok so i was like ehh okay i'll read this. it's dark? depressing? soul-crushing? everyone died? voldy and the death eaters won the war? hell yes.
my shipping status is a mess okay? bear with me. ➵ movies: harry x hermione // there's a reason why PoA is my favorite. ➵ books: ron x hermione // that slowburn, friends to lovers, bicker like an old married couple dynamic? fuuuuck yes. ➵ fanon: DRAMIONE ALL THE FUCKING WAY // the enemies to lovers, complex anti-heroes that only have a soft spot for the person they love and has a grey moral background just hits different.
✧ p l o t
↳ it has been at least 2 years since Voldy won the war and killed Harry Potter and tortured everyone from the Order. after 16 months of being in solitary confinement Voldy discovered that Hermione is hiding something from her memories.
he decides to put her in the breeding program where the surviving females of the Order act as a "surrogate" for his death eaters because the fertility rates are low amongst the purebloods. Hermione is assigned to Voldy's right-hand man who is none other than Draco-fucking-Malfoy aka the High Reeve aka Voldy's General.
so yeah anyways, i fucking loved this. there's no point in sugar coating anything. this was, as Ronald would say, bloody brilliant. this didn't even feel like a fanfic because the writing is that good. and @SenLinYu and @AVENDELL bishhhh i fucking love y'all thank you for creating this masterpiece and the most beautiful, yet haunting fanfic/fanart i've ever seen.
➵ TW: rape, attempted rape, violence, torture, mass murder, war, physical and mental abuse, just- EVERYTHING. this book is really dark right off the bat so keep that in mind.
p.s. this is gonna be a long ass review because i have so much emotions and i need to let it out so thx for listening to my ted talk in advance ♡

・゚゚・。。・゚゚・ PART I: HANDMAIDS TALE 2.0 ・゚゚・。。・゚゚・.
➵ November 2004 - March 2005
of-fucking-course this book starts with Umbridge "accidentally" leaving Hermione in solitary confinement for 16 months. that bitch. you know, i've always wondered what it was like if Voldy won the war. like what would happen ya know? but then-
"Then [Lucius Malfoy] cast a curse that turned Ron's blood gradually into molten lead. Hermione watched as the curse slowly crept through Ron's body, destroying him from the inside out... They had left Molly for last. So she'd watch all her children die... Remus had lasted hours longer than anyone else. His lycanthropy kept healing him until he just hung there, unresponsive. Finally, someone shot the Killing Curse at him out of boredom."
i aLwaYS WoNDereD whAT wOulD HapPEN iF voLdY WoN okaaaayy well shit. i never imagined it that way sheesh. and apparently Voldy avada kedavra'd Harry 6 times, hung his body up the Astronomy Tower so the Order survivors can see his rotten corpse, all the surviving females are forced to be a part of this "breeding" programs as "surrogates" for the Death Eaters because most of the pureblood females are infertile or barren and they need to procreate more purebloods so...
... yeah. this book is d-a-r-k, DARK.
my girl Hermione was so broken in this part. she lost some of her memories from the war, she was sold to Draco, had depression, anxiety, agoraphobia, ptsd, and survivor's guilt. she's also raped by Draco for 6 months (5 times a month because of the breeding program) and is being tortured by Legilimency (where someone invades your memories and apparently it hurts like a bitch), almost raped by Graham Montague, and had her eye gouged out by Draco's wife, Astoria (don't worry, he and Astoria never did anything they hated each other).
yeah... our girl has been through a lot here. and Malfoy? hated him (calm down i only hated him in this part when i didn't know wtf was going on). i just wanted to-
[image]
but also... not because High Reeve Draco is scary af.
listen. i knew something was up with him because we get glimpses of the real Draco. and his reaction when he needs to "breed"? yeah not a normal reaction. i can tell he was in pain and he was just holding it in. i knew something was up. and i was right!! when i found out what i found out- THE PAIN OH MY GOD.
anywho this part ends with Hermione getting pregnant and she gets into a coma and her memories start coming back.
・゚゚・。。・゚゚・PART II: DRAMIONE >>> THE ORDER・゚゚・。。・゚゚・.
➵ flashback; March 2002 - July 2003
ok ok. this is where shit really begins. so this is the part where EVERY. TEA. IS. SPILLED. we finally find out what the fuck happened and why she lost certain parts of her memories.
so we find out that Hermione is one of the main healers and dark curse specialist, so she's in charge of healing practically everybody. she's a "nOn ACtiVe MEmBer" of the Order who "doesn't fight" (lol). this begins with Kingsley and Moody secretly selling her to Draco because he offered to be their spy and he wanted her for some reason.
honestly this was my mood the whole time:

. the chapter that y'all would have to look out for is chapter 19. also, the author mentions these triggers right at the beginning and i APPRECIATE that.
since book 1, i've wanted to know what the hell is up with Kim and Xander. why is he such an asshole to her? why did he stop being friends with her, ignored her, and let others bully her??
I NEEDED TO KNOW cuz these two were driving me insane, especially Xander with all his pushing and pulling and the whole "my mind says no but my body says YES", and the "i hate you but i highkey love you" thing he does.
so a little backstory, Kim (h) is the best friend of Elsa and she's the shy girl who used to get bullied. we also know that her ex best friend, Xander (H), is one of the "Four Horsemen" aka the popular, rich and entitled assholes in Royal Elite School. we don't know what happened between them and why Xander all of sudden cut her off of his life when they were 11 years old. this book starts i think right after the third book (sorry! im not too sure about the timeline but it's still the same year as the first 3 books since they're still seniors) and this can also be read as a standalone.
— Kimberly Reed (h)
"I flip off those who slowly broke me, who turned me into this pathetic shell of a person. Those who took pleasure in igniting my breaking point and watched me as I fell. Those who threw me under the bus instead of pulling me to safety. Those who fed the fog and allowed it to rule my life."
first of all, i NEVER knew that she was going through what she's going through. all of her inner monologue about the "fog" taking over her mind actually made me shed a few tears cuz she was all alone and no one knew what she was feeling. what's also heartbreaking is the fact that she wants to get help and wants to change but people keep bringing her down (her mom and Xander) that i wanted to give Kim a hug.
her relationship with her little brother, Kir, was my favorite part of this book cuz they were adorable! every time Kir shows up, i just aww all the time cuz this cute little human deserves to be aww'ed. also, can we talk about how she loves K-drama and how fast she falls in love with fictional characters?? cuz same.
— Xander Knight (H)
"My knight, she used to call me. Now, I'm a rusty one without armour or a sword. I abandoned being her knight to become War."
ok i actually hated this dude in the beginning. he was mean to my girl and i was having none of it. he kept getting her hopes up but then becomes his asshole self again which then hurts Kim A LOT especially since she's already vulnerable. it was annoying and i was like
[image]
did i like him? ehh i feel like he should've done more grovelling. did i like him more than Aiden? ehh it's not him, it's me. i guess i have a thing for heartless assholes who's a jerk to everyone except the heroine. one thing i liked about Xander is that he is a NOT a ho. I REPEAT. he is NOT a ho. he is a (spoiler)
i just thought this was an ok book. even though i shed a few tears when it came to Kim, i didn't have the overwhelming emotions that i usually feel with the dark subjects that are presented here. i guess it was how it was written and all.
also, i just wish that once Kim and Xander became a couple, there were more scenes of them WITHOUT doing sexual things and instead emotionally connect. plus, after she forgave him, there were time jumps and their cute couple moments were mostly told and not shown. i needed more sentimental moments considering their history AND considering that Xander was literally one of the reasons why Kim hurts herself. all in all, by the end of the book, i had the feeling of wanting more, so i wasn't satisfied with some aspects of the book.
there was A LOT going on here. there's like drama after drama that at times, it feels like it was thrown in which resulted in the drama to be OTP sometimes. this is especially apparent when it came to the family drama and the reason why Xander stopped talking to Kim.
also, for those who want to know (SPOILERS), we were told from book 1 that Xander is apparently a "ho" but he's really not. there's 1 OW scene where he walks in the class with a girl in his arm, her lipstick smudged on his lips and heroine sees this. there are more OM drama here tho where Ronan (H's friend) makes Xander jealous cuz he flirts with Kim and goes on a date with her.
one thing i did appreciate here is the fact that the MCs actually wanted to seek out professional help because they know they need it and don't ridicule or ignore the concept of therapy unlike other books *cough* hades hangmen series *cough* (i still love that series tho! but the Cursed really needed professional help).
so basically, this book is a combination of broken knight, ruthless knight, and bully, so if you like these, y'all should try this but again, keep in mind the triggers people!!

but yeah, if y'all know any rich, hot sugar daddies that look like henry cavill and is possibly a lord living in a manor with butlers or something, just let me know.
anywhooo this was a good time to reread this since i'm in the mood to delve into anything with dark academia aesthetic and since i needed to refresh my mind before starting Riot Rules and umm i forgot how angsty Dash and Carina's story might be considering that she saw him "cheating" on her... yeah, i really hope this is fake by the way *fingers crossed*

i LOVE boarding school, dark academia aesthetic and if there are other books like this (in the romance genre tho) pls feel free to recommend.
so this is about Elodie Stillwater (h) transferring to a new boarding school where the most "popular" boys' group is called the "Riot House". There's 3 of them:
→ Wren Jacobi (H): cold and callous. rich af. → Dash Lovett: British, kind of an asshole, has the old money aesthetic. rich af. → Pax Davis: buzzed haircut, highkey a ho, models for Calvin Klein, rich af.
Wren Jacobi was obsessed with Elodie even before he met her and, cuz he's weird as hell, he was like yup ok im bored so imma destroy her blah blah blah. but did he? nope. he's the biggest softie out of all the boys and he treats Elodie like a queen.
characters — Wren Jacobi (H)
"I've always been a depraved and dirty thing, Elodie Stillwater, but the idea of you has corrupted me to the point of insanity."
i actually liked this dude cuz he was pretty sweet to Elodie but i wasn't convinced when it came to his "change". before Elodie, apparently, he's just this cold, grade A asshole, rich dude with an idgaf attitude but i never even saw it here?? it was mostly told not shown. he was like oh yeah never mind, i actually like Elodie so imma change for her but i was like bishh when? where? HOW? but yeah, Wren is actually pretty sweet and the fact that he would rather hurt himself than have her hurt because it pains him to see Elodie in any sort of pain? Y E S.
— Elodie Stillwater (h)
"I'm Elodie Stillwater. I transferred in from Tel Aviv. Father's an army man. Mother's dead. I'm into painting, music, and photography. I'm allergic to pineapple. I'm an only child. I'm terrified of thunderstorms, and I love flea markets."
this was heroine was kind of a badass since she knows krav maga and what she went through when she was 14? it was H-O-R-R-I-F-I-C. if y'all wanna know (TW: SPOILER) she was sexually assaulted by her own father right next to her dead mom's body and she was locked in a box for 5 days and the military forced her to still live with the dad (!!). anyways, her inner monologue about her hating on Wren was annoying since they barely even interacted with one another in the beginning, plus, i was kinda biased cuz i liked Wren by then.
inner monologue this was actually pretty interesting since it had a little missing girl, murder mystery and the beginning got me hooked but it just started to get boring in the middle since there was A LOT of description aka inner monologue. 25 % of the time, i didn't mind this but the other times? oh boy i did. to estimate, there was probably like 40% dialogue and 60% inner monologue. i honestly became doodle-eyed with the amount of inner monologue and long ass paragraphs this book had. it felt like i was reading my homework and when im reading a book, y'all know that's the worst feeling ever. because of this, this took me longer to finish cuz i just couldn't get into the book. also, a lot of things were mostly told and not shown and that bugged the shit outta me.
romance honestly, because of the inner monologue > dialogue writing, i wasn't convinced with their romance at all. it was sweet don't get me wrong, but i just wish there was more banter and a lot of showing instead of telling. i didn't really get Elodie's "hate" to Wren since he didn't even do anything that bad except for putting raw fish inside her desk and blackmailing this nerdy kid to fix her phone. THAT WAS IT. and again, i don't know when Wren changed since he was the same person this whole time. a lot of characters keep telling us that he was the worst but i was like uhh no. why? cuz it was never SHOWN.
__________________________
the side stories of the other characters are intriguing so i'll definitely read the next books. im mostly interested in Dash and Carina's story since their break up is similar to Vaughn and Tyra's from the prince and the pawn where, you guessed it, she walks in on him getting a bj. why am i interested? well, i don't really know. im hoping that what happened is fake and Carina's a good character sooo.
but anyways, the last 30% of this got me hooked cuz of the whole weird rich people party and the whole murder mystery come to light and i read this till 3 am so you know it's good.

i remember in book 1 when Four was calling Jamie (H) out for hurting Bee (h) and she said "then you deserve to lose her." and that is the truest statement ive ever read in this series.
im gonna go on a bit of a rant here cuz the dumbassery in this was a whole nother level. so SPOILERS AHEAD!!!
ok so a little backstory, Barbette/Bette/Barbie/Bee (h) was the "OW" in the peer and the puppet. she was in a fake relationship with Ever there the entire time because her parents need her to marry a rich guy cuz they're broke and Ever is helping her. there's no love between them and they're just best friends. but here comes the little soap opera twist, Jamie (H) is Ever's cousin. yikes. so in the past Bee and Jamie were childhood lovers but one day he returned and found his cousin and Bee as a couple... *cue heartbreak*
so as you can see, Jamie hates Bee cuz she broke his 14 year old heart. poor baby. anyways, this book is just about Jamie's pain. its all about Jamie. jAmie jAmIe JAMIE. ugh. [image]
ok?? but what about Barbette/Bette/Barbie/Bee's pain?! im pretty sure she went through worst pain than Jamie and we barely even explored that here? what the fu-?
let's do a little comparison: ↳ Bee: has been emotionally and physically abused by her parents and is currently being pimped out just cuz their family is broke and they want money so they're willing to "sell" her off to anyone. has been isolated by everyone, even her friends, and has been labelled as the "bitch". had to endure seeing all the OW sexcapades being shoved to her face for 8 months by the dumbass she loves.
↳ Jamie: got his heartbroken when he was 14. was a ho for 5 years and shoving OW sexcapades in Bee's face for those 8 months since he returned to Blackwood just to "get her attention".
... so y'all tell me who had it worst.
this was just bad. i didn't like ANYTHING in this book except for Lou & Wren. that .5 in my rating is for them. what i liked in the first 2 books weren't visible here at all.
- cute, slowburn moments filled with sexual tension: ✗ - good romantic development: ✗ - h who fights back and calls H out when they're being a dick: ✗ - H who is NOT a ho cuz once they feel anything for the h they become celibate: ✗ - cute banter: ✗ - uber possessive but very sweet H: ✗
instead we got this,
- petty mind games: ✓ - being subjected to one OW scene and H still hooking up with OWs in the beginning: ✓ - H manhandling the h: ✓ - H rejecting h request for putting a condom on and instead finished inside her without her consent: ✓ - unnecessary group sex that doesn't make sense: ✓✓✓✓✓✓✓✓✓
i mean sheesh. the "magic" the first 2 books had was nonexistent in this book and we're then subjected to petty shit that we often see in new adult books that is, quite frankly, popular nowadays.
the book started to go downhill with that unnecessary OW scene in 20% where he f*ingered this random girl in the bathroom just so she wouldn't spill about Four and Ever cuz they're relationship is secret since again, Bee and Ever are "engaged".
"The next few minutes, I spent with my fingers shoved in her cunt and could only be described as clinical, cold, and awkward. Not that Amanda noticed. In fact, she enjoyed it so much she soaked the bottom of my fucking T-shirt. Little miss chipmunk was a squirter."
what exactly did this scene even prove?? that they would do sexual things to those who threaten their family? is this a foreshadowing for the next book? we weren't subjected to any OW scenes in the previous books so WHY?
and then apparently he hooked up with this random OW at a party a day before or after he "touched" the h. oh OH! and all the inner monologue of the H about random OW and how he's attracted to them. or blaming his man ho shit because of her
"I don't know. Maybe because you've slept with half the town?" "That's on you." "You're blaming me? You're actually blaming me for you being a whore?" "Yeah, and I'll fuck every girl in this goddamn town, including the ugly ones, if it will get your attention."
and Bee was flattered by this?! [image]
i already disliked this book after all this shit and then there's a fucking group sex?? that doesn't make sense whatsoever and is out of character for all parties involved?? if y'all wanna know the group sex is with the MCs and Four and Ever and this happened the day after h lost her virginity to the H btw. the couple didn't touch the other couple. they literally just had sex in front of each other and Bee and Four sometimes kissed. i liked Four and Ever before this and the REAL them would never even agree to this shit. please don't do anymore unnecessary, out-of-character scenes just for shock value or for trying to make things "new". thanks.
Jamie has got to be one of the dumbest heroes i've ever read. i mean SERIOUSLY. he didn't know that Ever and Bee's relationship is fake and if he used common sense or i don't know, deductive reasoning, he would've figured all this shit out but nooo. he just had to think with his dick and sleep with a lot of OW for 8 whole months just to get Bee's attention instead of finding out the truth and fighting for her. but nope. all his blood is down there instead of his brain so what did i expect. this honestly just shows how much he does NOT love Bee enough.
i liked Jamie in previous books i really did. he was a good friend to the heroines in those books and he made me laugh with all his antics. it's a shame he's reduced to an unlikeable abusive asshole with no redeeming qualities. everything he did was selfish here and he was just plain mean to Bee the entire book.
their first time together was also disturbing cuz, again, he was a ho and he didn't use a condom AND when the h explicitly told him to STOP, he didn't and proceeded to then finish inside her... i don't like this shit.
and as for Bee? she just took his shit cuz he "deserved better". nahh bishh YOU deserve better. every hateful things he did/said was never acknowledged and he didn't even seem remorseful about the hurt he subjected her to when he was shoving all his OW shit to her face. there's no satisfying grovelling here and the h was doing all the fighting while H makes her work for it undeservedly. [image]
did i like anything in this book? yeah. Lou & Wren. that's it. it's unfortunate they barely had a scene here though.
anyways im done with this shit so rant over byeeee ✌︎︎

really? i mean- really...? Four (h) + Ever (H) = fOuREveR
i don't know about y'all but the only acceptable character who's named after a number is my husband #129483: Theo James aka Four aka Tobias Eaton, but ok whatever. i understand why she was named "Four" but still.
this is being compared to paper princess because of the whole step-sibling rivalry trope but i can't say anything about this comparison since i've never even read said book so sorry about that. but anyways, if y'all are in the mood for:
『 step-sibling, forbidden, rich and entitled H, a lot of push and pull and cute banter with a lot of show instead of telling, less plot driven and more character moments, and overall very c h i l l book. 』
then i recommend this.
i really do get why some people hated this while others loved it cuz that was me the entire time so imma just list out what worked and what didn't:
☞︎ l i k e s ☜︎ ↠ the banter/push and pull is what i really liked in this book. personally, i love long books just because i know there's gonna be a lot of showing rather than telling and that's what happened here. im pretty sure all the interactions between MCs were shown instead of pulling a fade-to-black move or time jumps (which i find annoying). there were time jumps here, though, it only occurred when Four and Ever didn't interact at all. also, Ever was kinda sweet?? he always made up for his shitty behavior (baking Four a cake, buying her a new phone, standing up for her just so she can pursue her passion, etc.) and i appreciated that BUT he was an asshole in the last 20-ish% even though he "grovelled" but did he really? idk.
↠ the side characters and friendship moments were one of the highlights too! i actually liked the future Hs & hs here even though i know they're ruined in their own books (ex: jamie & barbie/bee/barbette/bette and vaughn & tyra) in the future since apparently there's cheating, low key incest sexual encounter, and unnecessary group sex that almost comes off as queer baiting, which is a big no no for me. but i really did love the friendships between the characters especially Jamie's & Four's.
↠ again, this was just super chill so there's not much to worry here when it comes to safety (except for a little bit of OW drama and unnecessary OM drama near the end). i know there was a plot about this gang called Exiled but in all honesty, i skipped those scenes cuz they were irrelevant to me, and frankly, i didn't care. they're probably important later on in the series but oh well.
☞︎ d i s l i k e s ☜︎ ↠ the Exiled gang. i have no idea what this gang is about and how relevant they really are but i. don't. care. sorry!!
↠ the fake relationship between H & OW served no purpose to the main plot whatsoever. it didn't even add any angst since (spoiler) pretty early on, Ever told us it was all fake and he did it to protect the OW (!). i really think it was just there for the introduction of that OW, Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette and Jamie's story. also, this wasn't even a barrier in the MCs relationship. the h didn't care at all and the H definitely gave zero f's. this drama was literally used in the last 20% just so there's a reason for the MCs to "break up". (spoiler) he asks the OW to marry him a day after the MCs have sex for the first time (!). also, as for OM drama, what happened to Michael? that drama at the end was so unnecessary.
↠ Jamie (H's cousin) had unlikable traits cuz apparently he lOvEs Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette but then shoves his OW sexcapades in her face. there were so many scenes of this here and im not really down to read their book since apparently Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette gives in too easily.
↠ the "hate" or "rivalry" that MCs had. they barely hated each other. Ever was honestly just hot and cold most of the time but BOTH of them give in too easily with one another. i don't mind this cuz i don't hate the characters.
↠ the incomplete storylines & unanswered questions annoyed me!! like, where is Ever's mom? is Thomas really his dad? Rosalyn and Four's relationship, what's up with that? fake relationship with OW still going on?? so Four is gonna be Ever's side chick until when?!
↠ aaand the names. they're just weird ok? i mean Barbette? Four? EVER? no. just- no.
________________________________
anyways, it was actually kinda hard for me to choose whether or not this is a 4-star rating or a 3-star one since i actually did enjoy all the mundane things the characters did BUT idk. i guess it depends on one's mood so imma stick with my "neutral rating" aka "idfk how to rate this book".
i can't wait to read Lou & Wren's book cuz apparently theirs is the best but the last two books arent... should i or should i not read the last two?? i really don't want Ever & Four to be ruined since apparently they participate in group sex in Jamie & Barbie/Bee/Barbette/Bette book. hmm... idk. maybe if i feel like being a masochist in the future i'll read them but right now? nahh.
did i read this instead of writing my 20-page paper? yes. yes i did. pls don't judge.
i couldn't help it ok?? there were just so many cute m3.5 stars ✧
did i read this instead of writing my 20-page paper? yes. yes i did. pls don't judge.
i couldn't help it ok?? there were just so many cute moments here that i couldn't stop reading ugh. and the fact that the MCs have known each other since childhood and were always enemies, and 10 years later the H is now a famous actor and the h has to work for him as an assistant/chef to repay her sister's debts to the H?
... hell YES
and you know what, after reading a few books from the hangmen series, i really needed this lighthearted book.
↠ characters i loved both Delilah (h) and Macon (H) but i loved Macon waaay more. i never really connected with Delilah and i have no idea why that is. i don't know how to explain it but Macon just had that oomph that Delilah didn't have. and, im always gonna praise this but MACON AIN'T A MAN HO. thank you jesus.
the MCs were both cute and i loved the bickering, HOWEVER, and this is really weird, i just wish Macon was a tiny bit more mean? his present self was charming and cute but not gonna lie here, his past self was way more interesting than his present self and i guess i was in the mood for more angst cuz everything was a little too easy here. i just needed to see more of the enemies to lovers but the "enemies" part here seemed too light and it was just foreplay.
↠ OW drama (spoilers) i was a bit weirded out from the beginning when i found out Sam (h's sister) and Macon were childhood "bf/gf" where they dated for years.
"...Sam was safe, Delilah. She didn't ask questions, and she didn't really want to get to know me. I was a loner stuck in the role of town charmer. Sam suited my purposes because she played the part of devoted girlfriend and kept people from getting too close. That's all."
im so tired of sibling double-dipping OK? it gives me after forever or something in the way vibes and i fucking hated those books with a passion. but apparently these two were only faking their relationship and he only used her because he was bored. to be honest, i don't even know if these two were even intimate when they were dating in high school because there were barely any details but it was inferred they were more friends or partners in crime.
i feel like ms. Callihan deliberately made Sam and Macon's "relationship" vague cuz she KNOWS there would be a riot if there were details about their sexual relationship in the past (if they were even sexual in the first place).
there's also a scene where H goes on a date with OW but it was for PR. he thought about sleeping with her because he thought the h would never like him and he had to get over her but he couldn't stop thinking about Delilah. i didn't really care about this cuz, again, he aint a ho and it literally lasted just a few pages just to create a drama. nothing major.
* * *
i loved the beginning of this BEFORE the MCs got together cuz the slow burn, sexual tension, and banter was just *chef's kiss* but all in all this was just meh but in a good way. the drama at the end was kind of weird and unnecessary tho but i guess it was just there to solve the whole Sam situaion and to add a little angst.
but if i had a sibling like Sam? well let's just say im ready to hand out my bitch slaps....more

enemies to lovers, stepbrother/stepsister, tons of angst and petty teenage drama, strong heroine and asshole hero?? whats not to love?
even though the grovelling was satisfying, most of it was more telling than showing and that really bugged me.
"I was his endgame. And he was mine."
・゚゚・。。・゚゚・ characters ・゚゚・。。・゚゚・. since this is a bully romance, the characters were PERFECT for this kind of book.
➳ Rourke: was a great a combination of asshole/alpha and sweet. yeah, he was cruel and mean in the beginning and some of the things he said were unforgivable and i would’ve smacked him if i were the h but i really think he redeemed himself.
➳ Mercedes: this bishhhh. i LOVED her! she is the perfect type of heroine in a bully romance. why? because she fought back, gave it as good as she gets and didn’t pretend she was strong and brave. oh and she’s not one of those doormat/horny heroines that’s usually seen in a bully romance. i hate when heroines easily give in just because the H is hot but Mercy wasn’t like that. well... except for that one time but thank god it was only once.
・゚゚・。。・゚゚・ OW drama ・゚゚・。。・゚゚・. this is the main reason why i gave this a mediocre rating. sometimes, the H treated the OW/ex better than the h and this lasted throughout the whole book (more so in the first 50%).
The ex cheated on him for a couple of years in their 5-year fucked up relationship and that broke him but he still slept with her occasionally (even after meeting h but i think that was only two times and he felt bad/disgusted). im not really sure if he slept with this ex after H and h were intimate but the insinuation was there since he called her for sex after the h told him to forget their little make-out session. im not sure tho because it wasn’t really clear but h did catch them making out the next day her and H were intimate.
H hated h just because she represented something bad in their family and she did nothing to him but he still “bullied” her. OW/ex cheated on him plenty of times and treated him like shit but he didn’t want to hurt her, he doesn’t even hate her, the little boy in him will always love her, and when they “broke up” it was only her he was sleeping with afterwards and when he was confronting her? yeah... he was soft, didn’t call her cruel names, and was considerate of her feelings *cue eyeroll*.
and when it came to the h, H was fine with sleeping with this ex but when it came to the ex, he wouldn’t even sleep with other girls... yeah, im not down with that. yes, yes i know he slept with this OW to forget h, he was scared of his obsession/feelings for her blah blah blah. but hey, actions speak louder than words right? and the fact that he pulled a Freudian slip and called h with this OW's name was fucked uuupp. i usually don’t mind OW drama but it really bugged me here BUT it was resolved somewhat satisfyingly here, imo.

Buuut just because I felt that way doesn’t mean I hate the MCs cuz I love em. I love all the tropes in this book and I really am a sucker for petty teenage angsty books. It’s my guilty pleasure.
I love the heroine. She doesn’t take any shit from all the petty and humiliating pranks and fights back and she has something that a lot of heroines dont have just because the hero is hot: common sense and I really appreciate that.

H emotionally abuses her, bullied her for 10 years, manhandles her, threatening to kill her every chapter even during sex while 1.5 stars
So basically,
H emotionally abuses her, bullied her for 10 years, manhandles her, threatening to kill her every chapter even during sex while he has knife on her throat, basically treats her as a sex slave (she even admitted to this nonchalantly like oh omg ya I was his sex slave, moving on), forces a bj on her, and spanks and belts her when she’s begging and screaming for H to stop.
Does our heroine fight back after all this? Nahhh, why do you think I’m giving this a 1 star?
Listen, bully romance only works for me if the heroine has backbone and not a horny pushover/doormat, and essentially fights back. So is the heroine here the opposite of a horny pushover/doormat? HELL NO. All the horrible things I listed out at the top, you know what her reaction to all that? Weeeelll of course she becomes horny and thinks how handsome the hero is even when he’s threatening to kill her. Dear lord, imma need to pray for this woman to have some common sense and self-respect....more
first three chapters = very, totally, super, reallyyy NOT at all SAFE. I hated it. Like, wtf?? It was very triggering (sexual assault and bullying FROMfirst three chapters = very, totally, super, reallyyy NOT at all SAFE. I hated it. Like, wtf?? It was very triggering (sexual assault and bullying FROM the H) and when I finally read the rest of the book, it was unnecessary tbh, but this is dark romance tho so gotta cross some lines (still not an excuse). So, I recommend skipping the first three cuz everything else was fan-fucking-tastic.
The saving grace here is theheroine, Zoey. She's strong, brave, logical and not at all a doormat and a pushover, which is good considering what happened in the first three chapters. Another saving grace is the banter. This has one of the best banters/bickering I've ever read and the fact that everything was shown and not told is a plus because my recent reads has the telling instead of showing kind of writing and thats super annoying.
The only things I didn't like here were the first chapters (obviously) and the "grovelling" after their breakup since he didn't grovel imo, he just played more mind games which I completely understand actually since that was the H's character. And the OW/ex drama wasn't that bad tbh. H made out with his ex after going on a first date with h and they have already been semi-intimate (third-base) by then but H stopped it with OW when he came to his senses.
So ya, definitely skip the first three chapters cuz everything else was just great....more

The .5 is for the grovelling cuz it was actually pretty good but the H’s actions were unforgivable (calling her a slut, manhandling her, using OW for bj cuz he wants h blah blah blah, you know the usual) and the h was just... ughhh, well, she was a doormat who forgives too easily, cries a lot, gives in too easily cuz duh she’s horny, and doesn’t really fight back and I really hate that. Buuut she was aight at the end, though, can’t really forget how much of a dumbass she was for the first half of the book.
Gotta admit, I'm intrigued with the whole bullying (or hate-to-love, whatever) trope because my favorite part is when the H redeems himself and, well, I guess I have a thing for assholes redeeming themselves because duh Damon Salvatore and Jamie Lannister. In my opinion the H definitely did not redeem himself. It was little too late for that since he started grovelling around 74% ish and the rest of the time, he was just straight up emotionally abusing the h and I ain't down with that.
And the fact that h's mom and H's dad don't even care they're together even though they are step-siblings is just wild as hell. And can we talk about how their parents didn't even get suffer through karma?? I would've given this book higher rating if the parents got what they deserved since they were having an affair in the past and they ended up happy while their significant others either became an addicted to alcohol or became poor?...more

I love a good ole slow burn, enemies to friends to lovers, fake relationship book. Only reason why I didn’t rate this higher is cuz I wanted to see more “hate” cuz I love a good hate to love BUT even though the H says he “hates” h, his actions clearly don’t show it but oh well. This was still really cute. I do appreciate how they fell in love and not in lust....more

k first of all, 5 GIRLS. at the same time. seriously?? how does that even work? i know that's disgusting and all (and it is) but im here like [image] did he use his toes? knees? elbows???? man, this boy needs jesus.
ANYWAYS. so we were all introduced to Hunter Fitzpatrick (H) in broken knight and he's 1/3 of Vaughn and Knight's threesome friend group and we were told that he was the hoest of all them ho's and at that time i thought they were exaggerating but nope. what they were saying was 100% true. and as for Sailor Brennan (h), she's the daughter of Sparrow and Troy from sparrow and she's apparently this prodigy when it comes to archery and she's trying to qualify for the olympics.
this has enemies to friends to fwb to lovers cuz after Hunter's orgy and how it's all over the internet, his dad forced him to live with Sailor for 6 months where she has to basically be her bodyguard and stop him from getting drunk and make sure he's celibate.
this sounds like a fun read but honestly, it was ruined by Hunter. he was just SO disgusting and i absolutely hate and dread when his chapters come up and his character was ruined for me in CHAPTER 1! THE VERY FIRST CHAPTER PEOPLE. that's how bad he is. why? because in that chapter, it was a day after his orgy, he wakes up with 2/5 of the women and starts f*ingering one of them while sucking their boobs and also we were treated with a nice little recap of what happened:
"In the video, Stacee let me pull out of her, peel off the condom and jizz all over her face. She'd licked the hot white cum from her cheek and giggled in delight while Kylie sucked my cock so hard she almost swallowed it. Not to mention Bianca, who did all the work while we did a reverse cowgirl with Kylie sitting on my face, bouncing it like I was a trampoline."
sooo swoony am i right? totally book boyfriend material right from the beginning!!??! but in all seriousness im sorry y'all had to read that but i just had to share my trauma cuz we are all in this together.
so obviously, his ass is shipped to Boston where he has Sailor as his nanny and right away, Sailor is enamored by him while he thinks she's not all that. im glad she fought back in the beginning but her inner monologue compared to Hunter's inner monologue makes it seem she was always more into him than he was. i'll show y'all why: ↳ S A I L O R
"He was my self-medication. My alcohol. My cocaine. My unprescribed ADHD pill, designed to enhance my emotional performance."
↳ H U N T E R
"Obviously, I would be sad to see her go, but keeping her had never been an option. If I had to guess, the loss of Sailor would feel like the loss of a really good pizza some asshole sneezed on. It'd suck balls, but at least I'd have had a taste, and there were more restaurants to choose from."
these quotes were a chapter apart and it was around 50% mark. you would THINK that Hunter would feel something genuine for Sailor but nope. her love was unrequited.
i have another one, ↳ H U N T E R
"I thought her chances of getting that Olympic spot were really good. It was going to soften the blow and give her shit to focus on when we were over, I couldn't wait to drown in unlimited pussy and cheer on Sailor as she kicked ass and took names in the Olympics."
this was said in the 62% mark after they've been intimate for 6 weeks and by then Sailor was already falling for him so as you can see Sailor was definitely more into Hunter in the entirety of the book.
and now let's get into the OW drama. ok so we all know about the orgy and im not gonna get into that ever again cuz i still have nightmares from it so anyways. right after a genuine connection between MCs where they were at this charity thing and Hunter helped Sailor with her anxiety as she gets anxious when she's under the spotlight, during the ride back home this asshole was scrolling through naked pictures of the women he slept with while Sailor was swooning in the same car...
"My screen was stuck on a thirst trap of Alice squeezing her tits together and winking at the camera with a cherry in her mouth, wearing nothing but a tiny, sunflower patterned bikini. "Who is this?" she asked. ... "A chick I went to school with." "Nice," she said, in the way girls lilted the word when things were anything but nice. She turned back to the window. I turned back to imagining myself fucking Alice's tits."
like- excuse me sir? EXCUSE ME?! [image] what the fuuuu? and when they got home, he asked for one of his f buddies in the past to send him nudes and video of her touching herself and he "jerked off twice" that same night. UGH. SO SWOONY AM I RIGHT???
another time is when he invited this random DoorDash delivery girl into their apartment cuz- well, i don't fucking know. i guess he was bored or something? he didn't plan on sleeping with her but he still invited her in to watch movies and eat the food and flirted with her. this happened after MCs have already kissed btw. OW propositioned him to the point where she was topless and Sailor caught them but yeah nothing happened. and Sailor also caught him with her nemesis, Lana, in a compromising position and it was all fake BUT it was one of the main drama for the last half of the book. i don't wanna get into it cuz i makes me angry but Sailor thought he cheated on her and saw he had lipgloss residue on his lips but he didn't really specify if he kissed her or not but knowing Hunter, he probably kissed her.
all in all Hunter is the epitome of an annoying, spoiled fuckboy who tries hard to be funny. the only fuckboy who is actually funny is Damon Salvatore and this douche has got NOTHING on my boy Damon. he was just so annoying and i NEVER, not once, believed he loved Sailor because of all the shit he said. after their first break up? he was only sad because he didn't want to be celibate again. from the very beginning, i only believed Hunter was into Sailor cuz she was the only one available. all the romantic shit that i wanted to see that would've probably made me believe he felt something was told to us instead of shown because of the 6-week time jump.
i usually prefer it if the guy is into the girl more just because i wanna be genuinely swooned but the whole time, Sailor was lusting over him and literally thinking he looks like a Greek god while Hunter thinks she's just mediocre while impatiently waiting for their arrangement to be over so he could have sex with other girls. i guess it wasn't properly shown when it comes Hunter's "love" because of his annoying inner monologue and dialogue. because of this i felt bad for Sailor but was also so annoyed with her cuz it seemed like she had the dreadful betraying body syndrome.
because of Hunter being Hunter the whole entire book, i never believed his character development and his love for Sailor, so when i got to the part where he was "grovelling" at the end, my face was literally like this [image] yes, i was judging this asshole.
i probably would've given this a higher rating if we only had Sailor's pov. now tho? i wanna erase my memory from the visual i had with that orgy. yuck. i have a feeling Cillian (Hunter's older brother) will be worst than Hunter and his book is next... imma prepare my holy water if there's anymore disgusting shit that will 100% happen.
first of all, i knew with my whole heart, mind, body, and soul - and pardon my language here - but i fucking knew it. i KN**spoiler alert** 1.75 stars
first of all, i knew with my whole heart, mind, body, and soul - and pardon my language here - but i fucking knew it. i KNEW that one scene would ruin my good mood and thus ruin my enjoyment for this book. of course i had hope in the beginning but when that scene came up?

↳ Will Grayson (H) has always been obsessed/in love with Emory Scott (h) in high school, though, he would always chase after her and she would always reject him. Once she finally gave him a chance, well, he fucked up which then resulted in him and his friends going to prison.
9 years later, they meet again at Blackchurch - this bougee prison where "troubled" rich kids are placed. why would Emory be there when she's not at all rich? well, it's all a mystery.
TW // very descriptive scenes of physical abuse from a sibling, and out of character sex scenes
➳ WHAT I LIKED before i get into my rant because i will do that again, i just want to say that i LOVED the past chapters. reading about Emory and what she went through? i was crying. i was so emotional and i don't even know why. i just know that i wanted to hug her. like- she was just so alone and ughh that hit me. that hit real hard. and the passion? romance? longing? a s t r o n o m i c a l. it was so good.
i mean Will having unrequited feelings and chasing after Emory? yes. i love that. and the romantic development where Emory acted like she hated Will but he slowly won her over with him just hugging her and being there for her not knowing that she feels alone but his mere presence just makes her a little more happy and sees the beauty in the world?? ooohh
[image]
CHEF'S KISS x3000.
also, of course, honorable mention to the man, the myth, the legend - Damon Torrance. i love him.
➳ WHAT I DISLIKED (major spoilers) ehh for those who read this, y'all probably know what im talking about and that's the lovely sex scenes in the present chapters. honestly, most of the present chapters? ehh. didn't really like them. i didn't feel the romance, the passion, longing, etc. in these chapters because most of the things Will and Emory did were petty games and they kinda got together in an intimate way pretty fast and since y'all know i love a good development, well, i didn't like that.
anywho let's get on with the sex scenes. im pretty sure 99.9% of the sex scenes in present chapters involved Emory and Will having sex while other couples are also having sex with them or joining in. let's see, there was one with Micah and Rory, one with Aydin and Alex, and alas, Alex and Emory having sex in front of Will, and the whole Horsemen clan. how lovely.
most of the time, i just sat there and contemplated life and asking myself -mel, why are you reading this? -BECAUSE YOU DON'T GIVE UP BISH -but.. -shut up, you can do this -no i caaaan't -i said SHUT UP and on and on and on.
but after reading the past chapters and how much i loved them and the shit they did in the present chapters? i got so annoyed and frustrated. like- WHY ruin a good romance with unnecessary smut?
and whyyy, why have sex with the woman who has been sleeping with your mans for years ("in the shower, on the beach, against the wall, on the hood of the car in the rain, and in my backseat.."), has a bond/connection with him because they're "reflection of each other", who's best friends with him and was practically there for him whenever he felt alone???? huh??
listen, i love Alex but i actually resented her and Will's friendship here because of the sex scenes!! Aydin telling Alex to moan Will's name in front of Will and Emory while both couples are having sex and then Emory doing an out-of-character thing where she sleeps with Alex in front of Will and Will being aroused by that?? what?? i ain't a prude and all but i honestly don't like all the sharing/threesome/orgy scenes in this book because they don't make sense!!!.
im also more frustrated by this because the story was going so good until Alex showed up in Blackchuch by 50% mark because it's ruined by these kind of scenes and i end up disliking what's happening afterwards so that's why i skimmed the last half of the book because i didn't care anymore. those scenes literally ruined my good mood and the love i had for the characters. and instead of swooning or emotionally connecting to them, i just roll my eyes with the stupidity ughh.
* * *
im just honestly so sad because i love Will and Emory in the past chapters and the writing/romance reminded me of my favorite pen douglas books but the present chapters reminded me of the new adult trend that's happening right now where a scene is written for smut/shock-value which ultimately kind of ruins the character and romantic development which are so important in story-telling.
the focus on Alex in the last half diminished Willemy's romance in the present chapters. i honestly loved her as she is one the most tolerable/likeable characters in the series but the constant repetition of letting us know of her and Will's past sexcapades was so.. tacky? eh i didn't like it at all, which also made me not like her which im actually sad about.
but anyways, to end this note and series, i just want to proclaim my love for Damon Torrance... again. that's it.
aaand now it's time to wait for the next generation of the Fall Away series but now im a little worried because im not really down with this threesome/orgy trend that's going on. also, damn, do i miss Jared and Tate ugh.

TW (spoilers): sexual abuse from H's mother when he was 11-15 (there are 2 flashback scenes of this), suicidal thoughts, self-harm.
➵ Damon Torrance (H)
"I need her to hurt me, because pain covers up pain, and if I feel one, I won’t feel the other."
the reason why i like Damon out of all of them is because he's not just a rich and entitled dude who's doing all these things because he's bored *cough* Michael and Kai *cough* but he's doing it to forget his pain and the abuse he faces.
he might be the most fucked up out of all of em but so far, he's the first hero in this series i sympathized with 100%. Michael? hell no. Kai? ehh maybe 80%. but Damon? YES. he's also the most interesting and has the most depth and how he grew up, he could've literally been a serial killer. i really wanna psychoanalyze him but im lazy so sorryyy.
➵ Winter Ashby (h)
"How I’d never hated anyone as much as I hated him, but how I loved what I felt with him more than I loved anything I felt with anyone else, either."
first of all, love the representation of a blind character. thank you for that. second, well.. i just liked her. after reading Hideaway though, i don't know who my favorite is. Winter or Banks? hmm.. i don't know but we'll see after i read Nightfall. but anyways, uhh. i don't really know what to say about her because i was focused on Damon the whole time oops. but just know, she's not as annoying as Rika. that's all there is.
➵ OW/OM drama (spoilers) aight. we all know Damon had crazy kinks but apparently he wasn't that much of a ho?? i think? apparently he was more of a voyeur? i don't know. im wishful thinking right now. but there is 1 flashback scene of Damon eating out his teacher, 1 scene of Damon giving Will a handjob, 1 scene of Winter dry humping this random actor in the haunted house, and the stupid threesome.
speaking of the threesome that happened in the 83% mark, let's talk about that shall we? first of all, it was stupid. second, well, it was stupid x10000. and third, instead of feeling anger and annoyance (like in Corrupt) i felt more disappointed. it was like watching the character arc of Daenerys Targaryen in s8 and watching the last episode all over again. why? because it was OUT OF CHARACTER.
everything was going so good and yet another scene like this is added and- for what? for smut? it really doesn't make sense for Damon to share Winter. he was even known for fighting to the death to keep what's "his", like, he kidnapped and allied himself with Trevor in the first book because he wanted to keep his friends and remove Rika.. and now you're telling me he's going to share all of a sudden?? right... and honestly, Damon said "i love you" for the first time after this and i just didn't even swoon and celebrate this moment. why? because of the stupid, unnecessary threesome. i was honestly just like this
[image]
it was stupid and it just ruined my mood. also, the fact that i read this days before Nightfall with this scene still fresh in my mind, well, i won't stop picturing Will going till 2nd base with Winter soo.
also, why do they always use sex to heal? isn't that- not healthy? well.. wtf do i know.
➵ Rika Fane (rant alert) first of all, the fuck, when did Damon start liking her? i-
[image]
i really feel like this "change" with her character is kind of out of left field.. like, suddenly she's good with mind games and politics and throwing knives at people with 100% accuracy?? listen, im actually glad her character changed because books 1 and 2 Rika was.. not it. but suddenly now she's Mayor material? the character we know who's mostly act first, think later kind of girl? plus - i think im a little bias here but oh well - Banks is more suitable to be Mayor. she's really selfless and she even risked her own life to save 9 dogs and her cook knowing she could get killed AND, she's studying sociology and politics. but again, wtf do i know. rich people in these books are apparently a different breed and it's like real-life Game of Thrones so, good for Rika i guess??
➵ Alex and Will also, quick question, why did people want Alex and Will to be together? im actually genuinely curious. i heard there was drama about this on the facebook group but like- these two barely even had any scene together that could be counted as romantic?? in Hideaway, Alex just tells us how he "fucks" and in other scenes, they hang out with the main character but they barely even interact with each other too. and i think Alex deserves someone who's not hung up with someone else soooo.
______________________________
anyways, i know i said i suddenly "forgot" what Damon did in the first 2 books but ehh i don't think i should forget because what he did was shitty. im glad he took accountability tho but i think he should've grovelled more because i mean.. he did try to kill them ...more
