Tucker is such a sweetheart but Sabrina was so insecure about their relationship and kept pushing everyone away? And jumping to conclusions like this was the 100m hurdle!? For what reason? She was too prideful more than unfamiliar with the idea of relying on someone so she really got on my nerves. I understand that her life is shitty but her antics were just too frustrating once they reached a point of "this is ridiculous and pointless but I'm gonna act this way anyways to further the plot and make it longer before Tucker and I are together" ...more

Plot wise, I found this to be the best so far out of the previous two books because the conflict didn't center around one of the characters liking someone else! Allie and Dean are hella entertaining and Allie's dad was realistic but endearing kdfjdslkjfsdk.
I think this is my fav so far in the series? Maybe I'm just intrigued by the Life of Dean lol.

This was such a slow burn, heartfelt story with the perfect combination of tropes: The family members, childhood friends to lovers, cameos from Jasmine x Lukov and Aiden x Vanessa, everything was perfect. Bianca is such a relatable and lively MC, and Zac is such a fun-loving, warm love interest. I was smiling and rooting for them but mostly just wanna give Zac a hug. AND this, dare I say, is better than The Wall of Winnipeg.
Adrienne really ate with this. I really loved this story of familial bonds, secrets, love, and treachery that takes place in the same world as the FabAdrienne really ate with this. I really loved this story of familial bonds, secrets, love, and treachery that takes place in the same world as the Fable Duology (one of my fav series). No, there were no cameos but at least we were back in Bastian again ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I was somewhat disappointed because Fable and Namesake were so alluring and magical. While The Last Legacy is set in the same world, much of the story involves Bryn repeatedly doing tasks for someone she's trying to impress. The first half was quite stagnant.
Is this inherently boring? Not really. Could she have made more adventurous decisions and done more pivotal things? Yes.
Show me the pirates. Show us the darker parts of the gem trade. Add some side characters that play a larger part in the main character's development.
Also, Bryn and Ezra did not have enough substance for me to be fully invested in the story without help from side characters and the setting. Bryn's backstory was not that unique nor interesting, whereas Ezra's had much more potential, but was skimmed over and less pivotal than I thought it would be.
However, I still did enjoy this for the most part. The story was familiar yet new and ravishing, and I am still enraptured with this world of gem trading and pirates. Bryn was fairly likeable, if not somewhat bland, and Ezra was also likeable if not somewhat similar to West from Fable.
At first I was hoping for a sequel but after reading, I am content with this being a standalone. Adrienne Young is still an automatic read/buy author for me, and the world of the Narrows and Bastian will always hold a special place in my heart....more

honestly i enjoyed this slightly more than The Deal. Grace had much more character than Hannah and Logan- well, Logan and Garrett were both great lol. I do wish the ending was a bit longer though but I still zoomed through this and I think I'll like book 3 more according to the general consensus?
My main gripe was that the protagonist Kate literally has no flaws. None. Zero. Nada. We have no choice Depressing AND disappointing as hell. Fuck me.
My main gripe was that the protagonist Kate literally has no flaws. None. Zero. Nada. We have no choice but to feel bad for her, and there's nothing I hate more in books than when authors force you to feel a certain way about a character. I understand that the author may have wanted to say "bad things often come to people who don't deserve them" but Kate felt very unrealistic so I couldn't care for her. Even the best people have flaws.
The first half of the book is unbelievably wordy and tedious, but then the relationships just go from 0-100. Frankly I couldn’t give a shit about our main loverboy Keller (bland and boring) but somehow the better character (Gus) is sidelined. Yes, yes, I know he has a sequel but that doesn't mean he should be benched in book 1.
That being said, I still appreciated how Holden highlights the less than ideal outcomes of love and relationships. While I’m all for a HEA, it’s refreshing to get my heart ripped out sometimes, you know?
Even though I cried at the end, I was not that impressed. I'm just unreasonably emotional sometimes. Gotta read the sequel for my boy Gus though ;)...more

Seriously, this was so adorable. Not only did I like seeing them flip houses (a lot more calmly than the explosive couples on tv), but Wes just reads Bethany so well and I relate to her self-doubt so much. They're so cutsie together!...more
