I went into this book not really knowing what I was getting myself into. I just got to say I LOVED this book. this book is about Sammy Santos who lives in Hollywood which is actually barrio in New Mexico. I enjoyed this book because I just love how Mr Sãenz writes. his characters feel so real and you can just feel the joy and the pain they go through. one of the downfalls about this book is that there is a lot of Spanish in this book which can make it a little confusing. I can read as little Spanish so I found it no problem but if you don't read Spanish then this can make a little frustrating to read....more

I love love love Benjamin Alire Saenz writing. It is so beautiful and moving and this story just brought all types of emotions for me. I felt for Zach and I felt his pain and suffering. It takes a great writer to make you feel that way. This is a hard book to read for it deals with a lot of issues; drugs, addiction, alcohol, death the list could go on and on. I read this book with not really knowing what I was getting myself into and it was amazing!!! I gave it a 5 star...more

I cant say that I hated it it was just the type of writing that Maggie does is hard for me to follow and find myself getting lost and my mind starts wandering. I will probably pick up the second book but not for a while. The first book left me confused and wanting more and I see the second book has higher ratings so it has to be better then this one....more
