This was a cute volume and a befitting end. While I think the series between volume 6 and this volume felt a bit rushed, I do think the ending did our favorite couple justice. I still would've taken one more volume. Watching Nanase and Kairi's journey has been an absolute joy. ...more

In terms of the plot, the first two chapters deal with the cliffhanger which was brought up at the end of Volume 3. I thought that I could predict where the volume was going to go but I ended up being very pleasantly surprised at the twist. I just had read a few Josei/Shojo mangas that had the twist that all went the same way with the plot so I thought this series would do the same but I'm really glad that it didn't because I felt like it increased the intimacy of the relationship between Sakura and Tendo. I am more invested in their relationship now. ...more

Sakura is in an ambulance and she is acting like her life is about to end and she's confessing her love to Tendo and saying her last words and he's just there like -_-. And asks her, "What makes you think you won't survive with a doctor here?" And she ends up having minor injuries. It made me laugh and diffused the tension from the last scene.
The manga also ends on a cliffhanger which made me desperate to read the next volume. I have read it as I recieved an ARC of Volume 4, and I just want to put it here that Volume 4 resolved the cliffhanger in a way which I didn't think was going to happen. It was a surprise for me....more

I love it even more in this book because so much comes to light in this volume to their fellow coworkers. It was fantastic to watch everything begin to slowly uncoil and then there were so many moments that just leave you breathless or dying of laughter. One thing I really loved seeing between these two was Dr. Tendo becoming more reliant on Nanase because of falling ill with a high fever. In the first volume we saw Dr. Tendo take care of Nanase and make sure she was okay, but now the role is reversed in this volume. I really loved that and I loved that we got to see these characters be vulnerable with one another again. ...more

It's kind"Your eyes are the eyes of one who does not love--tarnished eyes. You are a devil that defiles innocent souls with your vile hands and lips."
It's kind of cool to see a mangaka settle into their story and figure out how they're going to carry on their serial in the long term. Parts of this don't work that well for me--the undertaker and Grelle are character types I can easily do without, for one thing--but I can easily see myself continuing with this. Just as with other "three star" manga, though, I won't prioritize it for future reading.

A savior’s work is never done, however, and a last threat looms before them that could spell the end of everything. So why doesn’t anybody seem to care?
I think it’s smart of this series to get while the getting’s good. As I’ve noted, we didn’t need the extra stories we got after the first two volumes, but they were pretty darn good. And here we come in for a victory lap that’s… pretty darn good.
A lot of this volume centres on Tsukina’s relationship with the mysterious Bran, whose affable nature should make anybody suspicious of their moral fibre (sorry, not sorry). I like that rather than everybody being just that gullible, there’s a really valid reason....more

Because not only does Kotaro respect that what happened to Asako was traumatic, he also listens, tries to understand, and gets angry on her behalf instead of writing off her experiences as silly and something she should have gotten over. Anxious people beat themselves up quite enough without your help - and when Kotaro works to understand that, it's more romantic than any grand gesture or smooth move. After a very triggering encounter, Asako just hasn’t been herself lately and Kintaro knows it. As they work through the trauma, a very simple truth comes to light and things are said and get ready for a whirlwind tour of Japanese marriage customs.
Recognizing that I was a little dismissive of the whole ‘Asako meets her old bully’ storyline, and having seen more perspectives than just my own, I had hopes that this volume would bear fruit on that arc and, as happens, it did not disappoint.
And Asako realizes that she can bare all that pain to Kintaro and he is appropriately comforting and wants to see her at her lowest moments just so he can be there for her. It is very sweet and cathartic and helps recontextualize some of the earlier moments of the series which is always nice.
It’s also a rather spectacular touch that Kintaro freely admits he’d have done something either this time or when Asako was in school and Asako acknowledges this and is very moved by it. Realizing just how much of a team they truly are helps her free herself from the past a little more.
Having seen how far they’ve come, well, the only question left is how far they’ll go and, boy, Japanese marriage is a different sort of beast. This comes down on the right side of interesting, but there’s a lot of information presented here that sometimes threatens to drown the narrative.

“I want to hold you. Can I?”
Koutarou and Asako continue their cute relationship but when Asako goes on vacation, something major happens.
At first the vacation back home for Asako is nice. She visits a old friend and they get to talking. It's a great scene, some funny bits with Asako's childhood friend kid there who is adorable. They talk about life, separation from their partners, really good mature themes. Then in comes a old school mate of Asako who insults her, maybe not fully on purpose, but the nickname she uses floods Asako's mind with the past and her hatred towards her own body.
And that's the thing. The bullying is bad enough but it's the self hate that hits hard. I won't get too personal but growing up overweight (and still am) my body image is all kinds of screwed up. I hate my own body. Even when I dropped 100+ pounds in my early 20s, or 45 pounds two years ago, I always seem to gain it back eventually. And the images of my past, of being called fat or any other insult always come back to me at the worst times. And so with Asako always sweating and smelling, when someone mentions a old nickname, all those horrible memories flood back into her. ...more
