It started out very well and maintained it for the first 100 pages or so. Then, there were a lot of subplots and characters with similar names and I kept getting things confused. At several points, I had to read online summaries to fully grasp what I'd just read. I really enjoyed the writing in this book though. It's very descriptive and just beautiful in general. For example:
"... as dawn pours over Rambla de Santa Monica in a wreath of liquid copper."
And there are lots of quotable moments as well:
"I was raised among books, making invisible friends in pages that seemed cast from dust and whose smell I carry on my hands to this day."
I really wanted to enjoy this book a lot more than I did so perhaps I will re-read it in the future to see if I can take more away from the experience.

It took me months to formulate what I wanted to say in this review. I couldn't decide just how to put my complete love for Revival. But I now feel confident that I can, so here we go.
For this review, I will be listing the positive points and then the negative points.
Positive: + It made me cry twice. And I had never cried because of a book before. + I love that it's not only a terrifying horror-story but a genre-crossing literary novel with hints of a coming-of-age story. + The writing of this book is so beautiful. + The characters are so realistic; they aren't good or bad. Even the bad characters garner your sympathy. + The. Freaking. Nostalgia. I love it. + The entire part of the story involving Astrid Soderberg was tragically beautiful. + Charles Jacobs character arc.
Negative: - At a few points in the story, I became slightly confused, but this only occurred once or twice. - As amazing as the ending was, I thought it to be slightly anti-climactic.
This is unlike anything I've read before. I have no clue what to say. Maybe I'll finish this review later when I can fully comprehend what I've just reaThis is unlike anything I've read before.
