Cronin's Key (Cronin's Key, #1)
by

Wow...this one is hard one for me to rate. I really liked the world-building and the characters, though there were also some things I enjoyed less.
Seeing that this is the first book in this series, there was a bit of an information dump going on. I didn't mind though, because to it was all very interesting. I loved the mystery and mythology. Also...I love vampires !!!

This book is about Alec MacAidan (Ailieg) and Cronin (no last name like Cher)
Alec has been a NYPD for some time and in that time he has witnessed some very weird shit. To be honest, he has been witnessing weird shit ever since he was a little boy. He doesn't really question it anymore. He has excepted that "weird" just seems to follow him around.

Cronin has been a vampire for more than 1000 years. He and his friends Eiji and Jovis are the leaders of their coven. Vampires all have some special ability and Cronin's ability is that he can leap from one place to the other, in the blink of an eye, taking anyone he wants with him.

For 1300 years he has been waiting patiently for his "fated" one, and guess who that is....... right Alec.

Of course these guys have instant chemistry, because well.....destiny and fated and mates and all that !! At first Alec isn't too happy about all of this. He can except all the weird shit without freaking out, but he isn't a big fan of having his will being taken away. He wants someone to be with him because they want to be, not because it is written in the stars. But we all know you can't fight destiny, so he starts to fall for Cronin...

While these two dance around each other, there are some more pressing matters at hand. Some evil bitch queen vampire is trying to raise an army by resurrecting the dead in Egypt. Only "the key" will be able to stop her. Guess who the key is.....right Alec.
So Cronin, Alec and their vampire buddies are off to Egypt to fight a war.
Like I said....I liked this book but I was a bit disappointed about some things. Cronin being one of them. I like my vampires to be a bit more alpha I think. I was looking forward to some Grrr and Arrrgghh. What I got was a bit of a puppy. Also, a ginger vampire with freckles....No...I wasn't down with that at all !!

I loved Alec though. He was the bomb !! I laughed my ass off with all the things he said.
" This is detective MacAiden. I request an APB, I repeat, an APB on a sense of humor. Belonging to a Mr Cronin I-have-no-last-name-like-Cher. Last seen approximately in the year 744. Yes, you heard correctly 744."
The side-characters were also amazing, especially Eiji. I just wished I would have felt more chemistry and love between Cronin and Alec. Something was missing to me. This was a slow build insta-love. I think, because there was so much going on, I didn't get to really know them as a couple. One minute Alec is fighting his destiny and the next he gives up and gives in. The steam was also a bit lacking I think. For how long these two waited to finally get it on...I felt a bit let down. It was hot, but I guess I just wanted a bit more between the two of them.
I am still gonna read book 2 of course, because I think this book was a promising start to this series, so I hope book 2 will be better, now that we have all the information and world-building.
