Cronin's Key (Cronin's Key, #1)

I have absolutely no idea why it’s taken me so long to read this book. It’s been on my to-read list for ages and I love vampire reads. So why?
Despite having most of this authors books marked as to-read the only one I’ve actually read is the cute and loveable Finders Keepers.
Anyway I digress.
I really liked this book and despite having a couple of issues it worked well for me.
Alec has always been different. He’s always felt someone watching from the shadows, saving him. It’s almost like he had a guardian angel.
So long review short.
Alec is special. He’s had a guardian vampire from being very young. He’s not only Cronin’s fated mate but so much more as well.
I loved the start of this book, how these two met and pretty much everything.
I didn’t particularly like the description of Cronin. I know that’s how the author wanted him but I just couldn’t picture him as ginger with freckles. So I did what I always do when I’m reading a vampire book and the male character doesn’t work for me. I picture Ian Somerhalder and I’m good to go.
I also imagined when I started this book that Cronin would be a strong alpha. He was much gentler than I expected. I imagine this is the author’s style but time will tell.
I personally like the whole fated mates thing. But I did think the book suffered a little from not having Alec and Cronin more together. I appreciate there was a lot of history and a lot of story to get through but this is ultimately a romance and in my opinion it would have benefitted from having them together (hot and sexy) more.
But overall I really enjoyed this read and it’s straight onto the next book for me.
