The Crown of Gilded Bones (Blood and Ash, #3)

This will be spoiler-free so I've got you!
So yeah.. let's talk about The Crown of Gilded Bones, it's the third installment in the Blood and Ash series.
What the hell was that ending JLA!?
It started with a bomb
It ended with a nuclear explosion
This book was more intense than its predecessors. It was such a thrilling experience.
More political intrigue
More world-building
More romance (10x times more)
More characters
More locations
More action
More secrets
More PLOT-TWISTS
The plot-twists were crazy to the point I was mentally exhausted but it what kept me turning page after page.
It was great to be back with Poppy and co and experience a new adventure with them. This book did set the dark tone that I believe the future books will follow along with its spin-off, A Shadows in the Ember.
I'm really, really excited to see more of Nyktos and his consort, JLA said the consort will play a significant role in the upcoming books.
The romance was passionate and hot as it always been but we see more of Casteel and Poppy being lovey-dovey and domestic and I loved seeing that. Their love for one another is so intense and powerful, Poppy and Casteel would go to the ends of the earth for one another.
Kieran adds even a more special flavor to their dynamic and their friendship is so precious along with Vonetta, Delano and co.
I'm glad this book had more politics to it since both Poppy and Casteel are expected to play new roles and abide by new rules.
I am so glad I got to meet the two characters I was most excited to meet! I did not expect things to turn out that way.
My only criticism would be that the pacing was slow midway but it didn't ruin the experience for me, I might've been on the tip of my toes wanting to know what's going to happen next. I had to deduct a star because mid of the book felt it had a lot of fillers and I think most readers would agree that that's the biggest issue in the book.
There was a lot of new information that I was able to absorb and I see why JLA wants to release ASITE/Spin off books in a specific order with the remaining B&A books.
JLA takes the story and the characters to a whole new level and to a much darker route and it's grating my nerves. I don't have enough patience to wait a year for the fourth book.
I may seem calm but I am still reeling. I'm feeling a whirlwind of emotions and I'm not sure whether I should cry or grab me a cup of warm hot choco to settle me.
Keep a generous amount of chocolate or any sort of comfort food nearby. You will need it. I promise you.
